How to avoid pixel burn-in ?
This is the main question for gamers using an OLED display and in this video I'll share some tips and tricks learned from hours spend on searching info about the subject. This 13 min video will bring some light on how you should use the OLED worry-free :)
In the video I will cover 3 main areas:
..............................................................................................................................
Display Menu Settings that MUST be ENABLED !!
................................................................................................................................
Best Brightness and Contrast Settings for HDR10 content (Cyberpunk 2077 used as a testing platform)
.................................................................................................................................
Q: Is on screen overlay gonna' create burn-in ?
A: It might. But the conditions for that to happen are described in the video, and also, THE SOLUTION for how to avoid that.

Higher image quality will be availlable after processing 🙂 (Including HDR10)

By doing pixel cleaning very often you short the life span of those pixels very fast. Pixel cleaning should be left on “auto” setting and used manually only when you start to observe signs of burning in to remedy that. On the other hand having very high level of brightness is very bad for your eyes and for your oled monitor. This is where HDR really shine since it always use high brightness only on “peak” areas and for short time. Best thing for you to do is to enable HDR and then run windows HDR calibration tool. Never go with the slider over 850 value ( nits ) as specified on Asus manual as being the peak brightness this monitor is capable. Going over that value will force your Asus monitor to work harder and HDR to be less precise with the entire color gamut.

This video was tough to watch..... didn't learn anything new here. You DO NOT have to do pixel cleaning everytime. Read the manual before you make comments like that. Everytime you shut off the device it enters into pixel cleaning mode automatically. It becomes unnecessary to do it again during your session. It's supposed to be every 4 hours to refresh but a typical gaming session should be 3-4 hours so it's fine if you go to 5-6 hours.

It was my 1'st time trying an OLED and I was over-cautious in some aspects. Sometimes its better to be like that rather than not carrying at all. Later I've learned what you are stating and its true.. but still from time to time, I do it myself just to be sure. Anyways... Thx for you comment :)

how is it holding to this day? Have you experienced any issues of the monitor going blank and unresponsive? I'm planning on getting the 48" version but based on Amazon reviews a lot of people are getting that issue in the latest firmware update.

So far so good. I had few instances when the monitor just went black for...2..3 seconds but I think it's more a matter of drivers rather than a hardware one. Now that I think about, in the last month or so, it didn't happened anymore. The image quality is unmatched..I use to have a 27PG UQ .. the "God Of Monitors" from ASUS also but that monitor FAILED ME after not even 2 years. Back then I thought there's nothing above that pitch-black.. That changed when I've tryed this OLED.. The HDR quality is insane.

My 48" sometimes shut down after 4~5 hours and can only be "awaking" by take it from the power per hand. Drivers are up to date...

Hi, I just purchased the pg 48 uq- I’m getting conflicted into; How often to I manually run pixel cleaning: PLEASE Help me, I do not see any features that say that it’s automatically done- I often use this monitor between 4 to 8 hours per day.

A lot of users are reporting (as well as me) how the firmware is broken and not displaying HDR correctly in windows games. HDR content on KZfaq seems to work flawlessly but everything else just seems broken and SDR looks more like HDR than vice versa. Any comments?
@4kPcGaming
@4kPcGaming Жыл бұрын
I will make a video about this because there are few settings in windows that must be changed. And I did noticed aswell the things you (and others) mentioned. I don't think the firmware is broken. From my experience, after doing all the right settings, it takes few days for the right adjustments to get into effect. It's like a "passive calibration delay" - I can't explain it in another way. I also noticed that THE MORE time you spend in a game, the more chances are for the display to "learn" the propper palette. It is a interesting conversation/subject because you are right : many times the SDR looks more like HDR. I remember I used to have this issue with Metro Exodus when I was using the PG27UQ.

@@4kPcGaming Hello, I see that you have used a pg27uq. It is currently the one I have, and I am thinking of changing it for this one. In your opinion, is it worth doing this update? Does this pg42uq really look better? Greetings

95 brightness is not good for the lifespan of the pixels. Should be around 60 if you are really concerned.
@4kPcGaming
@4kPcGaming Жыл бұрын
So if we use 60 as brightness, why use a monitor like this anyway ? The OLED tehnology evolved from the early years. LG and ASUS implemented all kind of software that run in background to prevent pixel burn. I would say that if you use these monitors for gaming, even with 6..8 hrs of daily gaming every day, you have very low chances to have any issues. If you use them as TV's...then its a different story. I would recommend running the pixel cleaning after each gaming session longer than 4 hrs and everything should be fine :)

@@4kPcGaming the video said "if you are concerned about pixel burn in" so im assuming anyone watching this is taking a cautious approach. I use 100% brightness on mine.
