Hi Luca, I had the feeling you were from Italy, but in this video I've just discovered you are Sicilian as well! I'm from Ragusa and I live in London. Started watching your videos (and I subscribed to your channel) as I've recently purchased a Lumix S5 for videos, after 8 years of using Canon :) And... you're right, we prefer hotter climate :D Although when it's a little bit cooler it's not that bad!

Thanks for the video! If I am shooting in extreme low light and I am not able to shoot exposer +1, do you suggest still shooting in vlog or using another picture profile?

Thank you for watching Blake! No don't use V-Log in that case, you can use Natural/Rec709 like/HLG instead...they are less noisy.

Thanks a lor for the video , just got the s1 with the vlog and was fighting with the noise in the shadows , ill try to overexposed as you said ! i have a question tough , ven if not related , maybe u can help ... if i update my s1 to the 1.7 firmware , does the vlog update with be deleted and i need to reinstall it after ? thanks and keep up the good work

Thank you Mohamed! Yes try to overexpose a bit to protect the shadows. You can update the firmware of the camera without losing the V-Log update, don't worry ;)

Hey Luca, thanks for the vid. I'm getting "Media Offline" in DaVinci Resolve 18.6 for Mac Ventura OS. There's audio but no video. Filmed on a Lumix S5 in 10bit 422 MOV @ 25p. Any advice on how to fix this?

For 10bit 4k I think you need the paid version of resolve

Great video Luca I'm struggling with your zebra settings though how can you overexpose without having the zebras kicking in?

Hey buddy, I set the Zebras at 55 IRE to expose the skin tones and 85 IRE for the clipping point of the white...When I see that everything is ok, I disable the zebras with one click.

@@LucaBono.Studio so if zebra 1 is on that's fine as is for skin tones. But do I want to make sure zebra 2 isn't kicking in? Sorry I'm new to zebras thanks for the speedy reply

It depends...if the sky will have the second zebra visible while the face is at 55 ire, then you should bounce a light (maybe with a white bouncer) on the talent face to reduce the contrast. If zebras are too difficult at the moment, download the free False color LUT in my webshop and use that

@@LucaBono.Studio One last question. I always thought false color gives you accurate exposure. A lot of people say expose +2 for V LOG. I am assuming that for example exposing for the skin at 55% is actually overexposing by +2 with the false color LUT?

Ciao luca, Innanzitutto complimenti. Potresti fare un video dove spieghi bene i vantaggi di fare overexposing con il vlog? E secondo te un filtro mist 1/4 usando vlog ed overesposto, di giorno specialmente, non avrei un file troppo luminoso? Grazie e nuovamente complimenti per i tuoi contenuti

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't know what you mean by light modifiers. Do you mean using lights and bounces or do you mean something in the camera?

Ciao Luca! Sai se c'è un modo per impostare più di una lut nella visione assistita del v-log? Perché se metto la lut col false color poi non ho più quella in rec 709 e non è comodissimo. Grazie!

Ciao Mattia, se lavori run & gun ti conviene impostare un tasto rapido per visualizzare tutto in monochrome (così si vede meglio il focus peaking). Però devi stare attento a sistemare il white balance ad occhio, roba da poco. Io in genere uso la LUT giusto per controllare la scena mentre piazzo le luci.

If over exposing by 2 stops with manual ISO. How do you keep the image on the lcd screen from blowing out?

Hey Luca, great tips as always. Quick question, on the S1 can you assign S35 crop mode to a button so that I would be able to shoot 4K FF and switch 4K S35 easily with one push ? Is it doable ? Thanks 👍🏻

Hey Alex, no you can only switch that setting with the custom controls in the wheel...you can assign a specific button, sadly.

One way to do switch from 4k full frame to aps-c quickly is to place that function in the Quick Menu. Another way is to set up Custom profiles that are identical except for a crop.

Buonasera luca, Complimenti per il video. L'unico che tratta ciò che mi serviva. Ho un paio di domande.... ho la lumix s5 e faccio esclusivamente video di famiglia ( compleanni, gite, recite e cose cosi) i cosi detti "filmini". Uso profilo vlog di giorno ed uno standard personalizzato di notte, 4k24 10bit 422, poi modifico con ipadpro m1 lumafusion. Per quello che faccio, mi consigli di usare manuale o priorità shutter (180°)? Ho notato che settato in S e poi applicato il lut le immagini sono sempre un pochino scure, ma usare il manuale sarebbe una tortura modificare continuamente apertura, filtro,iso,shutter. Dammi tu un consiglio please

Ciao Angelo, grazie mille! Si puoi tranquillamente filmare in S ed alzare un po la compensazione d'esposizione a +1. Io per i filmini di famiglia filmo in CineV a 60fps in Aperture priority, in ignoranza pura ma mi trovo bene ;)

Continua a fare video cosi...semplici e chiari. Magari ogni tanto pensa anche a chi fa filmini e fai qualche video consiglio per migliorare magari le riprese. Non c'è nulla del genere. Complimenti ancora n1.

Hi Nik, yes you can also use the waveforms to check if you're exposing correctly (I've added a note in the video about it)...but it's a bit more difficult than the false colour and zebras to read it.
