It feels incredible to be so in sync with photographic tastes; I really find myself here, especially as I keep rewatching those Zeiss videos :D Have you had a chance to try the f/1.4 version? It seems to be on par with the Planar 50 f/1.4, especially in terms of bokeh and those lovely imperfections. I currently have the 28 f/2, and last year, I tried a 35 f/2 alongside it for a few shoots but couldn’t see any difference in the images. I'm considering adding the 35 f/1.4 to my Zeiss collection, but I'm undecided because it's both large and has a long focus throw.
@MichaelLaing719 сағат бұрын
The Zeiss Planar T 85mm f/1.4 is the Zeiss lens that got me into loving Zeiss lenses. Sadly, a few years after first trying the Planar T, I bought the Zeiss Milvus 85mm f/1.4, which I love but also hate, as it weighs around twice as much as the Planar T. The lesson is, buy the lens which you are able to carry, not the one that maybe optically better but always stays in the bag.

With macro lenses it's more difficult to track someone with long lenses. The focus throw is much shorter in the long range. But yeah, at f2 with 135mm is pretty easy to miss focus 😅 Congrats for the Milvus lenses. Cheers!

Thanks for your fantastic reviews, they are really helpful and informative. Yesterday, I bought a used one for $248, went to the park to try it out, and took some photos and videos. I started shooting at f/1.4, switched to a smaller aperture for just a couple of photos, then returned to f/1.4, and stuck with it wide open :) The bokeh at f/1.4 with this lens is incredible, very dreamy. Actually, I've been using the Macro-Planar 50mm f/2 EF for the past 10 years. I haven’t seen a macro lens that can outperform the Macro-Planar f/2, even though I use extension tubes which affects its performance, and it was my favorite for portraits as well. I was doubtful about buying the f/1.4 Planar, wondering if I would need it, but my doubts vanished after the first shoots. The light transmission, compact size, and the artistic photos it produces below f/2 make this lens special.

I'm glad you had the chance to get this lens. Both lenses are definitely complementary, because of the very different look you get from them. Keep in mind that for portraits, the makro planar has a bit better highlights roll-off and it will work better in contrasty scenes. Cheers!

I've been looking to get either of these lenses for the last 6 months, searching for comparisons, of which there are many. But this is perfect, thank you so much. I still can't decide, so I will just have to get both and then compare, for stills portraits. The Zeiss seems sharper as expected, but there does seem to be better rendering and micro contrast with the Leica. And I thought I would like the ninja bokeh, but the Leica is so much nicer. Problem is I've picked up a mint 1970's Nikon 50mm f1.4 and although it is nowhere near as good as these two lenses, it has a wonderful character.
@LucaBono.Studio6 күн бұрын
Thanks! In reality leica lenses are sharper than c/y zeiss. The taste about the character is subjective, but I prefer leica again. Nikkor lenses are fine considering the prices...but I suggest you to consider the Konica Hexagon before going for the Nikkor, if you're looking for low budget lenses.

I'm considering getting either the 35 or 50 and something that you don't mention here is that they're both some of the cheapest native AF L mount lenses with reasonably large apertures that one can get.
@LucaBono.Studio28 күн бұрын
Cheap doesn't always mean good...maybe start with the 50mm, that is the "cheapest" and it has the least amount of distortion. Cheers!
@notthere8328 күн бұрын
@@LucaBono.Studio It rarely does, that's why I think it's important to point it out. I'd ask anyone who expects ~500€ glass to perform like ~1000€ glass whether they're nuts. 😅 It's also about use cases. I'm about to get a used 35mm for 25€. Do I expect to ever shoot anything with it? Hell no. I need it to test field of view and dof, to figure out whether a decent 35mm would be useful for me. Thanks for letting me know that the 50mm has the least distortion!
@notthere8328 күн бұрын
Based on what I've read, it looks like either they or Panasonic have cut AFC support. Which I think is unfortunate because even if it doesn't work well, at least you could try it out. Same as with not being able to use aps-c lenses uncropped. There are plenty of aps-c zoom lenses that would work fine when zoomed in a bit... I'm not sure whether companies preemptively spoil things or whether incapable users whine too much. 😅
@notthere8328 күн бұрын
Man, I was looking through so many videos for adapters but for some reason, THIS, which is exactly what I was looking for never showed up in the search results, only in recommendations later on... 🤦 Anyway, thanks a bunch! It's weird and good to know that even the native lens can completely lose focus sometimes. Although... I guess it might've been because you fully turned around and so the camera didn't have you as "locked on" any more.

Nice video! I would like to hear you zalk about the delay as this is the biggest problem with these cameras. Also, I'm wondering about the digital look of the braw. With my testing, picture wise, there isntwo big reasons why using braw. 1. Denoising in camera is brutal. Dark colors get destroyed by it. 2. Look at the hue channel or key a color (sp hue+sat, not a luminance value) and conpare. In camera has huge squares. Braw has so much more detail. Important when colorgrading or greenkey shoots. Somehow not a single youtube review mentions this. This is the difference between 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 (in 6k) and 4:4:4 of braw
@LucaBono.Studio28 күн бұрын
Thanks Oliver! I did speak about the HDMI delay in the last video about Lumix S cameras. Yeah, I agree with you about the better quality of BRAW. Cheers!

@LucaBono.StudioАй бұрын
Ciao!

I use the Helios as well as some other vintage lenses like the Mir-1 with the Aivascope 1.5x on the Komodo-X when im going for a vintage look. I love that setup! I feel like this lens could be a perfect choice for clients and projects when you don’t wanna go for a full vintage artsy look. It’s got the contrast, the punch, the sharpness but most of all (in my opinion) such a beautiful and tasteful focus fall off. If i bought this i don’t think i would use it with a scope that much. It already got all the right character in the right places while still looking somewhat modern. I have a question for you: do you know of some other lenses with similar characteristics that pairs well with this one to make a set? Thanks 🙏
@LucaBono.StudioАй бұрын
Yeah, I feel the same about using this lens with anamorphic scopes. It's loaded with character and it doesn't really need an anamorphic scope in front of the lens...I simply showed the anamorphic clips because some subscribers were interested in this combo. Talking about your question, the new Biotar 75mm f1.5 II is the only lens that will match with this 58mm...I really hope one day MOG will create a 28 or 35mm f1.5 with a similar look like these Biotar lenses.
