I think the problem wasn’t that he literally couldn’t play it after one listen, I think it was sort of an analogy for how the melody is too complicated to simply grasp. Even complicated songs you can’t sing immediately after, you sort of fall into this groove, the melodies work together to achieve what vibes you want. Personally, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out where the melody was going, it just seemed so scattered, and it genuinely seemed like we were going to a completely new direction just for the sake of fancy vocal runs.
