This week on Derm Reacts, we brought in board-certified dermatologist ‪@dr.jennyliu‬ to take a look at our viewer Ellie's skincare routine. She has combination skin that's sensitive and prone to redness. Watch this video to see what changes Dr. Liu and Susan Yara want to make to her skincare routine. We also discuss how she can incorporate Vichy’s new Minéral 89 Prebiotic Concentrate into her routine. It helps fight visible signs of stress by accelerating skin barrier repair and protecting against future aggressors.

Thank you the lovely Ellie for sending in her routine!! Also a big thank you to Dr. Jenny Liu and Vichy. This new probiotic serum is my FAVORITE Vichy product. It’s hydrating, soothing, makes skin dewy, supports your skin barrier, and feels really light. I love it. 👍👍

Thank you SO much to Susan and Dr. Liu for featuring me! These recommendations are so helpful, and it’s wonderful to have positive feedback after what has been YEARS of trial and error! 😅 The naturium Azelaic Acid emulsion was the first affordable Azelaic formulation I came across that I actually enjoyed the texture of, and my skin responded so well to it. Good call with the Alpha Arbutin, too, I bought it for some really stubborn post-acne marks around my jaw but I haven’t been seeing major changes in my skin and probably won’t repurchase. Next to try will be the retinol cream and an exfoliating serum instead of toner! My skin has also been loving the Vichy serum, thank you so much for sending it! It’s a really gentle boost of hydration my skin is craving right now. Thanks again!!! 🥰❤️

Hey! I have combination skin but my skincare routine is slightly more different I was wondering if what I’ve been doing everyday is good for my combination skin 1. Micellar cleansing water 2. Cerave SA smoothing cleanser for dry, rough, bumpy skin 3. Hydrating hyaluronic acid serum I put it on my under eyes and lips 4. Eye repair cream cerave 5. Cerave facial moisturising lotion for normal to dry skin 6. SA smoothing cream for dry rough bumpy skin 7. SPF radiance booster 8. Vaseline on my lips and then a carmex chapstick 9. I mix Vaseline and baby oil and apply it on my eyelashes Is there any improvements I should do after I finish the products bc I do realise that a lot of the products or for dry skin but I have combination skin

Wait so question are we supposed to rinse off toner cuz I've been using toner and then serum and then my moisturizer and then eye cream and then I wait ten to twenty minutes to apply primer and my make up .. my skin has been so read lately heard that dairy can be a huge reason so I might try a non dairy diet but I need a better skin care routine my skin has been looking so horrible. I just moved so I'm on a really tight budget.

I don't think a lot of people have sensetive skin even though they say they do.. The only thing I can tolerate is allergy approved products ( I dont have allergy though). They must include no colorants, no parabens, no fragrance and no essential oils etc. So far I have only found one product line I can tolerate but sadly its aimed for people with psoriasis so some of them are way too heavy since they are designed for super dry skin while mine is a combination skin. Slim pickings.

Sinkless skincare is not hard. I can do a double cleanse with a skincare oil, micellar water, and a bottle of water. First cleanse I massage the oil on my face to break up spf/makeup (no need to emulsify anything at all) and then remove that with micellar water on 3-4 rounds (until they come away clean) and then finish with a round damp with water as a "rinse" and then follow with serums etc. Easy peasy. You can use reusable skincare rounds just let them dry out totally before packing them away to avoid them getting gross and bring enough for a fresh set each night.

Dr Sam's Flawless cleanser and the light moisturiser suited me but her Nightly Bakuchi serum and Brightly vit C serum caused irritation just like her original and Gossamer sunscreen. I tried Nara algae retinol oil and new oil sunscreen but it caused breakouts and clogged pores. In the past Clinique take the day off balm caused breakouts and heated my skin. I just wish to find simple routine to address my problems: dry/dehydrated combination sensitive acne prone skin late 30s ideal products specially night time and morning( my skin usually feels tight even after cetaphil cleanser which never removes makeup neither cleans skin, the tightness I feel after Dr Sam's cleanser though lovely jelly like makes skin tight squeaky clean) Please help Susan Yara, your other 30s videos won't help my specific skin needs , I can't send a video only a message here 🙏🥀

I'm sure this is very well formulated, but the first time I tried any dedicated hyaluronic acid serum, this exact thing happened to me. Day 1 my skin was like, what do I do with this? Day 2 my skin was like, nahh. Day 3, burning, sooo much burning. My eyelids got crepey and several shades darker, and my lip split. I was in denial because I had never heard anything except HA was like this miracle skin nourishment that I didn't think was possible to have a reaction to. I kept using it for another couple of days, ended up completely destroying the barrier and it still hasn't fully healed because HA is in *everything* and it's so hard to find moisturizing products without it. HA is a great ingredient for some people, but it's way over marketed and people need to be more informed about possible reactions. I definitely wasn't.

@@Miumiu0404 just a thought! Maybe she specifically asked Jenny to react to this routine because she knew the Vichy would be good for Ellie? Lab Muffin has a video where she talks about micellar water. It actually depends on the ingredients used. If the micellar water contains PEG-6 caprylic/capric glycerides or PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, you actually don’t have to rinse afterwards. If your skin is reacting to the lack of rinsing, then obviously do what’s best for your skin. Also, not sure what your comment meant with just using the thermal water spray can for cleansing. I can see it being used in the AM if you don’t cleanse, but just using a spray can of water isn’t going to be an effective evening cleanse for removing sunscreen and/or makeup.

@@RK-xl1od, if a dermatologist advises not to use a product, I wouldn't add "but you can finish the bottle". No, she doesn't have to bin it, but certainly she shouldn't use it either. A better suggestion would have been to give it to a friend or relative. It makes more sense. You don't just add controversial comments to a professional's advice.

@@veronicaivanova I would understand your point if the derm said it was causing a reaction, but she just said it was unnecessary. So at worst, it's an expensive HA serum. I think Susan just wanted to clarify that if she enjoys the way it feels, she doesn't have to stop using it because it's not harming her skin. I wasn't thrilled about the way Susan handled the Naturium launch, but it seems like people are constantly trying to catch her in these "gotcha" moments now.
