Dear Sara,I missed all the delicious Malaysian food since I can't go back for holidays to Malaysia ever since the coronavirus pandemic started last year.Your video make me mouth watering and hungry especially the KL Petaling Hokkien Mee and the raw fish porridge at Hon Kee.Btw the name is very correct and this porridge stall is also highly recommended at Tripadvisor too!Just to informed you and all of your subscribers too!Anyway I wished to return soon to Malaysia after my vaccine jab!Thanks alot for the food blog and you are a great food ambassador for Malaysia too!

Hello! Yes it’s so unfortunate that so many Malaysians can’t come home. I miss my family and friends who I’m suppose to see this year for many celebrations. I was looking for Hon Kee but accidentally ended at Yooi Kee. Tho I didn’t regret eating there. Fish was fresh, and people were so friendly! When I go next I’ll double check and maybe make another video. Thanks for taking the time to drop encouraging comments. Hope you get to come home soon. See you around!

Great video! Really appreciate that you covered a lot in a 24 minutes video & more importantly, you take care to not only tell us the name of the shops but also show us the storefronts AND often show us where there are situated in relation to each other or other places. Many of us aren’t locals and this is a big help.

Hi Sara, I’m Joe Tang from Singapore. I missed all the Chinatown food because of this COVID-19 restriction otherwise I used to take a flight to KL almost most of my weekend off day. Purposely used to stay at Ancasa Hotel on most of my trip to KL so that it’s within walking distance from this hotel to Chinatown. Otherwise I used to stay at Hotel around Jln Bukit Bintang. Hope to catch up all your recommeded foods in KL soon. Cheers 🥂

Hello Joe! What do you normally eat at Chinatown? Let me now if I missed anything. This time you can try Four Points by Shereton. I had an enjoyable stay and it's much more nearer than other places. Yes, hopefully things will go back to normal soon and we can travel/eat freely :)

@@sara_khong Hi Sara, my apology. I just saw your message. Your video on KL Petaling Street food were quite detailed. I used to have my breakfast at Petaling street most of the time before moving off for my shopping at Bukit Bintang areas. For breakfast there is a store in one of the lane that sell wanton noodle and I always order an extra plate of roasted pork. One of my favorite is the fried black noodle at supper time. Wondered where’s the location of four point Sheraton? Another stall which I used to patronize is the pork rib shop or Bak Kut teh along Ipoh road. (Can’t remember the name) but within walking distance from the Hotel Royal. Hope everything will return to normal so that I can travel to KL again to meet up with my friends.

Can't believe the current situation in Chinatown! I went there back in Jan 2020. It was so crowded I couldn't even find empty stalls or stalls without big big lines to sit and eat! I still remember the 1st time I arrived in KL, coming off the recently-opened North-South Highway, in the evening, from Singapore in August, 1993, the city was SO DARK, There was no Petronas Towers, no Suria KlCC. no Mandarin Oriental, no Bukit Bintang, no massive shopping malls, and only a couple of newly built, modest office towers in the Golden Triangle; we stayed at the Imperial Hotel and for a little relaxation went across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe. where the band was terrible. During the four days in KL, we did go to some great restaurants and had some terrific food and I fell in love with the city. However, it was all so new to me, that 28 years later I can't remember where we eat. I am sure some of these establishments are still extant.

Looks like you need to pay Kuala Lumpur another visit once the pandemic is over. I still remember KL being very dark, and even misty in the morning when I was a child. KL has developed so quickly. It's so different now - we have a lot of new hipster cafes, many local artisanal brands, new Malaysian-style fine dining restaurants. But I'm glad what you've missed - eg. great food is still very much here.

@@sara_khong I love Hokkien mee, the good ones but I am more of a soupy person, so if I must choose just one, I'd go with the seafood noodle your mom mentioned that was sweet and fresh. By the way, if your goal is to get millions of views for your videos, against my interest (I'd rather have eye candy as a bonus with your current format), I'd suggest checking out at least 2 massively successful KZfaq cooking channels, those 2 KZfaqrs don't show their face, one of them doesn't even have to say a word! : ))

Sara, do you do paid food tours? I would happily pay for a tour so I can see where all these places are. It would be lots of fun for everyone. :) You could call it : Sara Khong Food Tours Has a nice sound to it. :)

Nice video! Brings back wonderful memories of the yummy food at Petaling Street. If you go again, try the Portuguese Grill Fish - it's opened for dinner and it's at the back of the Air Mata Kucing stall. p/s - you should be careful, though, The Hokkien Mee uncle should not be talking to you with his mask down. Stay safe!!!

Yes! I was planning to go to cover a few places that many people mentioned, including the grill fish. What else do you recommend? Ok I will. Thank you. At the time I was filming the video, cases was very low. I was so sure then that this will be over. Alas...

Your latest email has forced me to do a forensic examination of my memory. My first visit to KL, I stayed at the old Concorde Hotel and not the Imperial Hotel (that was subsequent visits); the Hard Rock Cafe, with that terrible band, was located in the Concorde's lobby. The Concorde was demolished about ten years ago. Also located in City Centre and now demolished, as well, was Hotel Istana; in the basement there was a great Chinese restaurant. I ate there every visit to KL, unfortunately I don't remember its name and there is no trace of the establishment online. As soon as the Mandarin Oriental opened up in 1997 I abandoned the dowdy rooms of the Imperial and began staying here. BTW, if you want to recommend to your viewers some great books on Malaysia, I would recommend "Red Star Over Malaya" by Cheah Boon Kheng and "A History Of Malaysia" by Barbara Watson Andaya. All are available at Kunakunya at KLCC Suria.

You seem to have truly fallen in love with Malaysia! I have not heard of these books. But shall check them out the next time I’m at Kinokuniya. You reminded me that I was planning to get Sapiens: A Graphic History. Have not heard of the Chinese restaurant. Also I remember Michael Jackson stayed at Concorde when he came to KL. All these info are a loooooong time ago

Curry Laksa: There are three stalls selling side by side. Which one to choose? I have a feeling Sara accidentally went to the third stalls by coincidence, or else Sara will be giving a narrative to avoid the other stalls or recommend the best. Perhaps, Sara is putting on an act, my appologies. It took me two weeks and five visits to identify the best stall for my taste bud, it is the third stall from the entrance arch. The lady boss for the third stall told me once, "I want to make the best curry laksa in town", she said it with a passion. I felt the vibration.
@sara_khong
@sara_khong 3 жыл бұрын
That was the same question I had. I heard that it’s either 2 or 3, or find the one with the longest queue. When I was there only 1 & 3 were open. So it was an easy choice. I spoke to the lady about the soup. She said it’s secret. Perhaps I should speak more to her next time. Thanks for sharing with me your story!

@@sara_khong I did some homework on the net and KZfaq, it was not helpful to give me direction about a year ago.. Hence, ended up investigating. But now there are videos and recommendation on the 3rd stall. Most of the reviewers just went to one stall and start writing, without visiting all three to complete their mission. That is injustice. People would either choose 2nd or 3rd, not 1st.
@sara_khong
@sara_khong 3 жыл бұрын
@@kayellai5278 That's funny re: injustice 😂 I like how you take curry laksa so seriously. So you believe it's stall #3! Okay! I shall also do my own investigation next time. Maybe you'll see in future videos :)

@@sara_khong Nope. Is the day you visited the food stall/hawker date so that at least we know if the price is the current. As we all know, all food cost has gone up sky rocket high price and those goodies and delicious choices as show on your video clips is so tempting and nice BUT it is also a good info to know if it is affordable or cost reasonable. Hope that clarify. Thanks

@@sara_khong Thanks Sara and Congratulation. Just noticed the recent video do have price indicated which is good information of the current street food price. Just a recommendation, you should also explore IPOH town street food and there is one very popular egg tart shop you/your mom might be interested to try out. But of course IPOH is very popular when comes to street food stalls too. Just a recommendation only. Cheers.
