Best techniques on how to clean and press comic books Ep. 1

Video is how I clean and press books. Everyone may do differently. This is just what works for me.

Hello, just wanted to make a correction. The chris cross sheets I used in video are NOT the best thing to use. I posted in description the silicone ones to use. The ones in video may leave marks in your books. Sorry got some advice from someone who knows a bit more than I do. :)

@@tonymoretti2347 certain Teflon sheets have a Chris cross pattern in them that can leave marks in your books. There are smooth Teflon sheets but not easy to find. I tried silicone parchment paper but it shrinks and causes issues.

One suggestion would be to purchase precut parchment paper sheets which are sold at Costco. Better product to use both for inside and out side of the book. Thanks for sharing your process!

I’ve tried them and don’t like them. They shrink and cause waves in covers. If you find fine Teflon sheets they work well just not the cheap Chris cross ones.

@@comiccapcollectibles Yes I’ve noticed that after use on the parts of the paper outside of the book. Never had a problem with wrinkles in the cover once pressed. There one shot deals for me once used they need to be disposed. Thanks for the information.

I reuse the boards a bunch of times but the silicone paper is a one time use. Thanks for watching!!

Teflon sheets in my opinion are better you just have to get good ones. Don’t go to HD and try using a yoshi mat bc they have deep cross cross to them. Silicone parchment paper works well just not with higher heat and are only a one time use bc they get wavy. I will update the steamer in description now. More important what water you use than what steamer. Mine is a clothing steamer from target. Hope that helps.

It’s a 12 x 10 I bought it on Amazon. Unfortunately it can only do 1 book at a time. It’s the best “beginner press” swivel and not a clam shell.

Not that I’ve seen. Costco does sell silicone parchment paper tho.

Can you press a comic without steaming it

You can but depending on issue usually comes out better with steam bc it make it pliable before pressing

You can use a container to create a humidification chamber easily. It tends to take yellow out of the pages, not just loosen the cover.

The teflon paper will leave indentation impressions on the covers. Use .....

Good quality ones don’t. If you use cheap criss cross ones they do. I also tried silicone parchment paper but don’t like it because it shrinks.
