Jim Green Boots Review - Jim Green Boots just sent over their first batch of 2500 boots to the US and so they sent me two pairs, one to wear and one to cut in half to see what's inside. People have said these are some of the great value work boots and the best budget work boot. Jim Green has some unique advantages because they build 100% of their boot in South Africa that allow them to sell their boots for significantly less than most companies.

Based on your review & Carl Murawski review, 8 months ago (Feb 2022) I decided on a pair of JG Razorbacks. I'm a mailman in rural Maryland. These boots are more than adequate and have far exceeded my expectations. Worn almost daily & very minimal wear on sole. Looking forward to many years of my Razorbacks on the job

Finally snagged a pair. Mine came with an odd looking insole with parts plastic and leather. So far it's been okay, but it's not substantial leather like in redwing and heritage style boots. Might buy a leather or arch support insole. The boots are incredible. Great unique style, wide toe box, quality all around. Breaking then in fire hiking/light work. Similar leather hiking boots are usually insanely pricey. I'd have to work almost 2 days to afford danners heritage leather hiking "mountain light"s.

@@KT-cz7rm got a pair of razorbacks last month and I can say they’re definitely not like the pair Dan disassembled. For one the inner lining leather is gone and the inside is straight rough out leather. The next change is the elimination of the top fiberboard and they’re just relying on the insole to press lock into the leather fiber midsole ( which works as it’s pretty locked in. Lastly they’re more like the insole on the African ranger now with the Texon style second fiberboard unit removed
@zachmiller9175
@zachmiller9175 5 ай бұрын
@@KT-cz7rmthere's actually a newer insole than that now, the 3 pairs I own all came with different insoles, I have a pair of stockman's which came with the old style with the foam patch, my African rangers came with the ones with the plastic heel cup, and my tyre sole limited run razorbacks came with a much nicer leather topped foam insole with some built in arch support. I've replaced all of them with spencos though because they're the most comfortable thing I've found by far, they're what Nick's boots recommend.

@@zachmiller9175 kept the leathers in so far. I'm have to check out spencos. I don't know what this consist of but I'm a huge fan of rockrooster insoles. Synthetic memory foam material but I've had ones last 2 years, walking at least ten miles a day.

Hey Weston, nice find. It's nice to see affordable boots coming from other places besides China. And as you mentioned, there are some financial implications that add to the value. The only thing I didn't like, was all the single stitching throughout the upper. But the bottom line is you can't go wrong in buying these. I also like the style, they remind me of old hiking boots from the 70's & 80's with that single piece of leather wrapping around the upper.

My son has been wearing Doc Marten Chelsea boots for about five years as his daily school shoe. By the end of the year they are just so thrashed. Last year a chunk of the sole just broke off his boots. It was crazy. It looks like Jim Green makes a pull on Chelsea that is similar in the same price range. Gonna give it a shot and see if we can get a pair that last at least until he outgrows them...

Nice teardown! I got a pair of these a few months back and am happy the the quality and fit. Was worn out by shoes and boots in this price range having failed soles or seams to go with discomfort on my bunion. The roomy seamless toe is great. My heel counter was lined with a slightly rougher roughout than your example, so my lackadaisical break-in earned me a small blister.

@@MWENDA-vv5im the reason in my opinion the soles are so long wearing is the carramato safety sole clone compound that was perfected for the harsh African conditions. There was a very similar tread pattern that was used on our combat boots during the Angolan bush war. I do not know if Jim Green supplied these soles to the military, but if they did they would have had years of product testing. I found the soles excelled in sandy desert scenarios.

Damm this pair of boots looks awesome. High value for the price, High Quality, Nice construction, this secure and protective tongue design, TPU counter wit a double leather cover, quick to use lacing system, 2.2 mm thick full grain chrome tanned leather, one piece upper, strong and durable outsole, the well built midsole, even the holy steel shank is there and they are resoleable. (The only part that bothers me is the plastic coated cheap lining leather part) For city wear i might add a cushioning insole since you said the outsole is hard, but I probably wouldn't want them to make a softer outsole cuz it could make them less durable. I might also change the laces because of the color. Seems like an awesome everyday allrounder boot which will last a long time, that you can also take out of the city without a problem. Sounds really good to me in my opinion. I definitely need to look if I'm able to get them here in Germany, hopefully they have my size since my feet are rather long but rarrow.

Great tear down, the boots definitely look like they're worth the price. On the hard soles...if you are going to be on uneven terrain you need a hard soled boot. A soft sole boot walking over rocks, stones, small changes in terrain, logs, etc. can actually bruise your feet over the course of a day (or at least make the soles of your feet sore). This is one reason a lot of trekking and serious hiking boots have hard/stiff soles. Not great for pavement and not needed for indoor use but definitely worth it for work and play in the dirt.

People in Southern Africa are generally very very skilled at finding the perfect balance between quality and price...and knowing where to put that quality to get maximum use. Farm culture! In 2001 I bought $5 suede chukkas (YES, $5) in Zim that lasted me about a decade. About three years ago, I was in Joburg and paid $15 for a similar pair and the sole has hardly worn at all and the stitching is still in great shape in spite of daily wear in the summer. "Made in RSA" when it comes to shoes and shorts and shirts is generally a strong buy signal. LOL!

I think the leather and rubber quality is very high. Glad they invested in us and are shipping out of VA. Buy a couple pair of your favorite style you will not be sorry. I am a customer for life. AE's are kind of an overprized first tier of nicer dress shoes. Meermin already offers a better value and style in very low prices. However, some proper shoes would be a nice cut (Lobb or Edward Greens, for example - or Saint Crispins).

I have these boots and they are great. One thing I would mention before purchasing is that the counter and overbuilt counter-cover can really make the break-in process rough. I would definitely recommend double-socking and wearing moleskins on your heel area for breaking these in, as the upper ridge on the counter can give you blisters surprisingly fast.

I’m so glad I got a pair of these last year. I was actually going to buy another pair in the new fudge color, but saw the price went up by about 50 bucks. They’re still quality but they were an absolute gem at the old price. At the new 190 price they’re approaching Thorogood or Red Wing factory seconds territory.

@@crypto4423 I agree. I will say that the build quality is good and they are a nice boot. As this and others have mentioned - they will do best in the outdoors. As a hiking/adventuring/off-roading boot they are nice. I wouldn’t want to wear them standing in a machine shop all day.

Great vid, I got a pair of the Razorbacks back in May when Jim Green first got distro within the states. They're great boots, they've been my go-to pair for hiking and outdoor work. So far they've held up fantastic, and I've been beating the hell out of them too. Great company, and good people too- if you're in the market for some work boots or hikers I honestly don't think you'll find a better deal.

Just ordered a pair using your code, I think the wide toe box is my biggest selling point, I had some Redbacks but they were not wide enough, even though they tout they are wide. hoping the Jim Green work out better.

@Keeperofthekey13 2 жыл бұрын
I bought the half size in the Red backs as they are a better toe box width. I did also with the Jim Greens but probably wasn't necessary from what i'm seeing & hearing here. I DID buy an extra generic orthopaedic gel insert because the Red backs come with them as standard.

I got the brown ones after watching this review earlier this year. They're durable in many ways (construction and sole), but that finish needs a lot of care, from my experience with them. the top layer always scratches off, and the boots become two-tone because of the lighter color under the surface. When I first saw this happening I used to bring them home from the warehouse to maintain them, but then by the next week they would be looking dry and ugly again, so after a bit I gave up on babying them. Other than the finish looking terrible, the construction has held up and the soles have held up really well too. I don't think they're a good workboot for working in a warehouse though. The soles are too hard, as pointed out in this video, and then when you bump into pallets the surface get heavily damaged and flaky. I still need to find something that will last and not look so beat up. Edit: The price has gone up go $189 now, so the trade-offs will be weighed differently given his price increase.

Those look very good at that price for an all-around boot. I wish they made one that was just a hair more expensive but with slightly nicer materials like a better liner leather and maybe a leather footbed instead of fiberboard.

I have had a pair of these boots for nearly 2 years. I bought them Amazon for around $90! I have a bone spur on my heel (never stopped my joining up!) so the took about 3 weeks wearing alternate days to break in. Plus corn plasters. They are superbly comfortable and I do wear both for hiking and on concrete all day. But I did put a quality insole in. I also have a pair of Redwings and they are not a patch on this Jim Greens. Soles show minimal wear. Great boots!!!
