Wouldn’t recommend the lakes a lot of people have went missing or died there throughout the years you say don’t life your life in fear but even cops will tell u it’s not a good idea I’ve lived here my whole life been to the lakes but there’s always issues gunshots people reported missing stuff like that jus a warning look it up before going to make sure ur not going to a dangerous area of the lake cuz blind spots at the lakes are real bad

Confession: I'm one of those people who claim I don't know what to do here for fun after living here about 5 years. I'm old. I don't hike. I've been to most of the places on this video and many more museums. I enjoyed them. But now what? I used to enjoy food and ethnic festivals in northern CA, mostly around Sacramento. I never know when and where they are here except sometimes on the news, I'll see people enjoying themselves at one that just finished. Why didn't they tell me ahead of time so I could have gone? How do people find out about these festivals and other special evetns in advance?
@BillLaBrie
@BillLaBrie 2 жыл бұрын
Guess you need to know people with whom you share interests and values. You know, like in a culture. But because most people in Phoenix aren’t from Phoenix, they share little but a distaste for cold weather and high property taxes in their home cities. Thus, no culture. Yes, you’ve stumbled upon the true reason behind the complaints about “no culture in Phoenix.” Two million or so residents who share nothing but a reliance on air conditioning.
@sandramarcantelli4958
@sandramarcantelli4958 2 жыл бұрын
@@BillLaBrie I can appreciate people from different backgrounds than myself and my friends don't have to share my beliefs. My best friend of 40 years has different political and religious views than my own and belongs to a difference race. We respect our differences. Like I stated, I like festivals but don't usually know where and when they are in advance here. I did go to an olive festival nearby once. It was only 2 or 3 food trucks and high pressure was put on the visitor to buy wine. I'm used to food festivals that celebrates the produce. Like the annual Asparagus Festival has many trucks where you can enjoy asparagus prepared in a variety of ways. Plus they have live entertainment. Or the Cajun Festival where I ate fried alligator and drank beer while watching Cajun people dance. My favorite part of that was when they took a break and a Cajun teenage boy danced all over the stage, not to preform, but just enjoying himself. Or the Italian Festival that played such relaxing music that, much to my embarrassment, my friend and I fell asleep (with the help of Italian wine) under a shade tree. I miss that type of activities.
@BillLaBrie
@BillLaBrie 2 жыл бұрын
@@sandramarcantelli4958 Yes, those are cultural activities. The culture in Phoenix revolves around making money flipping houses, panicking when the a/c stops working, and staring at screens while drinking, as far as I can tell (my 40 Years in Phoenix badge is around here somewhere). There is no other cohesive culture. People in Phoenix don’t talk to each other. They’re afraid they’re going to get scammed. I always knew there was something sick and wrong about Phx and after decades of trying, finally escaped.
@sandramarcantelli4958
@sandramarcantelli4958 2 жыл бұрын
@@BillLaBrie So did you escape to a smaller and more friendly town in Arizona or did you leave the state? And are you happy where you live now?
@BillLaBrie
@BillLaBrie 2 жыл бұрын
@@sandramarcantelli4958 I tried to leave twice before I succeeded. PHX kept pulling me back. Finally, I escaped to a small city in the Northwest. There’s far less “going on” here than in PHX, but what what’s going on seems to matter more. Everyone knows about the Saturday market and most have been there at least once. Seems most families have gone to city-sponsored movies in the park. We have informal social networks based on gardening and pets. Its the culture around here. Its not for everyone, but it is a culture. Feels like home.
