We will hit 4 vintage stores and charity shops in Reykjavik, looking for the perfect "lopapeysa" sweater, a traditional icelandic sweater made with icelandic wool.
I prefer to find my souvenirs in the thrift stores rather than in the expensive gift shops!
In this video I will share with you my thrift haul from Iceland!
At the end of the video you will see also a bit of sightseeing around Iceland.
The shops that we visited:

- Wasteland - Ingólfsstræti 5, 101 Reykjavík
- Red Cross Shop - Laugavegur 12b, 101 Reykjavík
- Second Hand Store! (Verzlanahollin) - Laugavegur 28 A 101, 101 Reykjavík
The flea market that was closed:
- Kolaportið - Tryggvagötu 19 , Old Harbour Grófin Reykjavik Kvosin, 101 Reykjavík

Hi Aurora, I live in Edinburgh and we have a vintage chain called Armstrongs here. They sell vintage, authentic, handmade icelandic jumpers for around £30 to £40. They also sell original Norwegian cardigans and jumpers. Glad I never bought one when I went to Iceland!

You should visit thrift shops in Cornwall, England next time. There are thrift shops where you can buy everything for around 1 euro. Great selection of vintage stuff plus Cornwall is so beautiful! You and your mum would love it!

I'm so excited for this. This had to be such an amazing experience! The sweaters are beautiful. Too bad they are so expensive. That food looks delicious! Oh no, I'm so sorry your mom got sick! Wow, that's a lot of swans. I'm so sorry that Fabiano couldn't come because he was sick! Oh no, you too! Hopefully your dad didn't get sick too! I love all of the things you thrifted before your trip! So funny that you found the scarves made in Italy, when you were trying to find things made in Iceland. I'm so glad your mom started feeling better and was able to join you to shop! You guys definitely got lucky with your finds at that shop. I love the beaded/sequin top! Such a bummer that the flea market was closed that day. Oh my goodness, all of that food looked so good. What an absolutely stunning landscape there. Everything is so incredibly beautiful. All of the food looks so good too! The Northern Lights are so beautiful. What a wonderful way to start the new year!

What a wonderful trip Aurora! I felt so bad for your beautiful Momma; it’s so hard to be sick when you are traveling. Beautiful thrifted finds and the scenery! Wow! 👏👏👏 I used to live in Yellowknife (northern Canada) and we saw the Aurora Borealis all the time. It’s spectacular isn’t it.

Hello Amy, oh yes the Aurora Borealis was really worth the trip! I know that sometimes it is even brighter and it becomes purple 🤩, but I know that some people who went to Iceland didn't even see it, so I feel veeeery lucky! 🎆 My mom recovered quickly from the flu, but she still has a cough! 😥 Hope she will feel better soon. Iceland is definitely worth a trip! Also in summer, there are icebergs and wild animals (penguins, whales...), what an amazing country, so different from what I'm used to! 🥳🎆🥶👋😘

I’ve been to Iceland twice. I’m still watching your video. I’d be surprised to find an Icelandic sweater in a vintage or thrift store. People keep them forever, and pass them down. Because they’re handmade, and unique, they’re expensive. I looked at them, at the handmade store. I live in California, where it’s not often cold enough to wear such a sweater. But, next time I’ll buy one that buttons down the front. The real ones are also waterproof, so that’s very useful.

I hope you´ll come back to Iceland and visit Kolaportið :) To know if lopapeysa is handknitted you can look at the sleeves. they are knitted with the sweater, NOT knitted seperately and sewed in. And if there is no tag then it is more likely that they are handmade ;)
