Today we are looking at the top 5 best cheap welders for beginners. These welders follow 3 basic guidelines. first, that they must be a DC machine. AC machines are pretty old school and most machines on the market are DC anyway, but its still something that needs to be said. The second thing is that the wire speed and voltage knobs need to be independent of each other. One important notion of learning to weld is finding your grove so sometimes the preset settings on the machines don't give you enough wiggle room to try doing things a different way. The Last thing is that these machines need to be 110v or dual voltage 110/220 because that is the standard for most hobbyists. Down in the links below, I have more info the the yeswelder, vevor, warcking, century, lincoln, harbor freight, titanium and forney welders that appear in this video.

I bought the Tooliom multi prosser mig flux stick and tig. I have been very happy with it flux core works great and I have been very happy with the stick also. The truck is looking good.

The yeswelder that does TIG requires an additional purchase of a torch with the gas valve integrated into it, so there is no solenoid in the welder itself to regulate gas. I've used a machine that did lift-TIG in the same manner and it wasted a lot of Argon plus not having a foot pedal is no good.

I TIG with a dedicated tig machine so I hadn't realized that. Thanks for pointing that out!

I ended up getting the Vevor 270 model (higher end IGBT 110/220v welder) for $70 more than the 130A for more flexibility. Its really good with MMA and Flux core (but gives you the option to go MIG/TIG as needed). Pretty impressed at what it can do for the price.

In 2024 as an experienced welder the yes welder 135 I got for 80 it's usually 80-100 and you can't go wrong, I would advise to get the vevor 270 if you can but the yes welder is very good to get started I weld 1/4 regular flux core just fine for non structured applications.

loved ou video and review... the yes welder is updated and is now a single knob but looks like you can still adjust V and A just have to adjust which you are changing. FYI.

The yeswelder 135 machines do indeed do tig, but you have to buy a lift tig torch separately. The gas connects to the torch lead, and does not go through the welder.

I'm DIY and I was looking at the Yeswelder 165 and 135. I want to weld 1/2" rebar to 3/16" steel plate. I've seen people weld 1/4" steel. Not sure. What's xour recommendation?
@NightWrencher
@NightWrencher Жыл бұрын
I just saw you comment, going with a higher aperage machine is always a good idea and I'm sure the 165 is more than up to the task. I recommend getting a machine with 2 dials because my yeswelder 205DS only has 1 and its a pain to really dial in the machine

For Flux Core, is it important to: -make sure it's dc voltage output? and -make sure it has a negative output to the gun (positive "ground")?
@NightWrencher
@NightWrencher Жыл бұрын
DC voltage gives you a cleaner weld because electricity will only travel one way. Not nessesary, but it helps a lot. Setting the gun to negative is part of that so that the polarity goes the right way

@@NightWrencher DC is a big improvement over AC. It's why lots of people have done DC conversions on the old cheap harbor freight welders. Add a 160 amp bridge rectifier, 68,000uf capacitor, and a bleed resistor for safety so the cap discharges when not in use. I did it with mine and it ran much better. My problem with that old welder though is the lack of voltage control. a High/Low switch doesn't cut it.

@@NightWrencher Because it's (my FCAW) definitely not something I would recommend to a beginner looking for an allround first machine! It's built solid and works well, but the output is meh. Not a big deal for me that mainly stick weld, but I wouldn't want to keep my cattle in with welds made by it.... 🤣

I need a flux welder that’s 110, holds 10 lb. Spools and will weld 1/4 inch.. what’s your best recommendation ??? Thanks !!!
@NightWrencher
@NightWrencher 3 ай бұрын
Quarter inch at once will be hard to do with a 110v welder. The biggest issue is running out of duty cycle and having to wait for the machine to cool down depending on how much you weld in one go. The welder I just reviewed on this channel might be worth looking at so feel free to check it out 👍

I need to weld 1/4 steel brackets on an axle for a axle swap. I live in an apartment so flux core is my only option. And my budget for the welder itself is $300. Im open to any opinions that’ll help me figure out what I need. I’m big on doing things myself so paying a shop is not an option for me personally.
@NightWrencher
@NightWrencher 3 ай бұрын
Hey man, just saw your message. A 110v flux core welder can do the job, you just have to prep the metal, bevel the edges, turn the heat all the way up and turn the wire speed slightly down so that it manages to feed the weld just enough to keep it from interrupting. The harbor freight easy flux might work for that. If it doesn't, you can always return it and get your money back right away or return it when you're done using it.
@mrgreezy1
@mrgreezy1 3 ай бұрын
Some of these claim to weld 1/4” steel and some don’t, also some will run 10 lb. Spools and some don’t, besides having a 2 dial setup I’d think those attributes should be accounted for and used when deciding which welder would be best..💯
