Need a running back in Rounds 5-8? Trying to decide between Jonathon Brooks, Najee Harris, Aaron Jones and other guys in that range? Dave and Jamey tell you how they rank it and where the value is. We give our thoughts on each player starting with Zamir White, Rhamondre Stevenson and David Montgomery (6:00). Stevenson could see an increase in carries but a decrease in catches. Is White good enough to be productive for a full season? ... Let's look at Brooks, Harris and Tony Pollard (21:50). Why draft Pollard when you can draft Tyjae Spears later? Can Harris be better than we've seen in his first three seasons? ... We finish with (30:55) James Conner, D'Andre Swift, Aaron Jones and Zack Moss (46:20). Age is the concern for Conner and Jones. Swift could certainly benefit if Khalil Herbert gets traded and our feelings on Moss are complicated to say the least! ... Email us at fantasyfootball@cbsi.com

Age is tricky with RBs but I keep coming back to this: I’ve found that some of the best RBs in NFL history had very long careers and a ton of mileage. Frank Gore, Adrian Peterson and Fred Taylor won me several fantasy league by my ignoring the age cliff. Some great RBs with long careers: Frank Gore (16 seasons, 16,000 yards), Adrian Peterson (15 seasons, 14,918 yards), Emmett Smith (15 seasons, 18,355 yards), Fred Taylor (13 seasons, 11,695 yards), Jerome Bettis (13 seasons, 13,662 yards), Thurman Thomas (13 seasons, 12,074 yards), Walter Peyton (13 seasons, 16,726 yards). Possibly not relevant for this group, but for Derek Henry? I think so.

@@blessedbetit665 The current trend is to devalue the RB position, especially not keeping RBs under contract after 30. Doesn’t invalidate my point. All of my examples are for extreme cases with RBs who played until age 35 or later. I could list plenty of 30 year old RBs who produced decently for fantasy, and I don’t think you can realistically dispute it would be a much longer list.

@@tmartin8888I understand your point. But with Henry, what is at stake? A second round pick. So being decent isn't the expectation. He has to be really good. That is the issue.

40:15 Aaron Jones pulled a hammy after destroying the Bears. People usually get lower body injuries the first week of the season, because it's the first week of the season. He didn't lose a step. He unfortunately pulled a hamstring running almost the entire length of field on a touchdown play

I don't understand how Ekeler is being drafted over Robinson. Robinson will have the running downs work, Ekeler fell off last year, and Washington has a running QB. He's not going to be dumping off, he's going to be using those legs.

@@dakotatheplumber1287 it’s gonna be hard for him to under perform on adp especially if he gets the targets he got in Detroit.. and the coaching staff went out and paid him before everyone else knowing they need a secure trustworthy outlet for their new rookie QB.. I like the other outlet options the bears grabbed but you don’t go out and pay a running back at the break of free agency for him to be a 50% workload guy. If he stays healthy 65-70% of the snaps I would think would be the absolute floor on his volume

Are they forgetting that Zack Moss was inefficient with the Bills and that Mixon was behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league through most of his career. if you watch the two players it is CLEAR that Mixon is better than Moss. Mixon is also better than Singletary so the much more interesting question to me is how good can he be in Houston.

@tmartin8888
@tmartin8888 7 күн бұрын
Why are you so incredulous about Moss, guys? It’s the exact same offense Mixon played in, although the Bengals have better receivers and a better line this year. Oh and by the way, if Burrow struggles with injuries that boosts Moss’s value. The Bengals have a top 4 schedule this year. He’s experienced running from the gun, which the Bengals will be in 90% of the time. Yes Chase Brown, but you guys would rather have the Titans backs? Injuries can happen to any RB. I’m drafting Moss and Brown on opportunity and upside.
@FantasyFootballToday
@FantasyFootballToday 7 күн бұрын
I think Chase Brown could threaten Moss in ways that would not have happened if Mixon were the guy. It's easier to limit Moss's work than it would have to been to limit Mixon's. Moss has never been a big pass catcher. I do draft him a lot, but I'm a bit nervous about it - Adam
@tmartin8888
@tmartin8888 7 күн бұрын
@@FantasyFootballToday I hear you Adam. If the Bengals felt that way about Mixon though, he would have got an extension. They believe Moss is more explosive than Mixon and a better pass protector, and I agree. That being said, the Bengals are very high on Brown, he just hasn’t been on the field enough to determine if he can handle a lead back role. I don’t think they view either back as a workhorse, but that’s by design because they want to have a two back committee. It will probably start 70/30 Moss/Brown but if Brown takes advantage of the opportunity the roles could flip. If either back gets injured the other will be in for monster production. So it’s tricky but Brown hasn’t proven anything yet. I’m not a fan of taking Moss without Brown, but I play in a 10 team full PPR and I don’t mind taking Moss as RB4 and Brown RB5, because one of them will produce like a solid flex with high RB2 upside and I can play the waiver wire. If I get sniped on Brown I’ll go Ford/Benson/Corum. I get it though if you’re only taking one Bengals RB and you’re out on Moss. You are right, Moss hasn’t been a big pass catcher, although Mixon didn’t catch that many either. I get the nervousness, I just like the upside of the Bengals backs more than the Titans backs.

I believe najee harris will have a big year.
@tmartin8888
@tmartin8888 6 күн бұрын
I was pretty high on Najee for awhile. While I’m fairly certain based on Smith’s tenure in Atlanta that Harris will get the bulk of the work, I just don’t like his situation. In Matt Bitonti’s 2024 Offensive Line rankings, Pittsburgh’s line comes in at number 32. That’s even accounting for the additions of Zach Frazier and Troy Fautanu. I’m not confident in the WR corps or the QB. In PPR scoring, over the past 8 seasons, an average of only 3RBs each year came from offenses that ranked 20th or lower in scoring. When you add that he will split carries to a degree with Warren, it really doesn’t look good.

I’d been targeting Conner at the beginning of the summer, then moved on to Harris, but the more I think about that offense and offensive line, not to mention Warren, I’m out on Conner and Harris unless they fall to maybe RB4 range. This is just an ugly group of RBs, I think I like Brooks if he’s healthy come the end of preseason. But yeah, ugly. 🐕
