Hey, even though you are probably joking about it, light camera-lens combinations can actually benefit greatly from heavy tripods/heads. This is mainly because the heavy head makes it easier to add drag to tripod movements.

Thanks for the review! A good tripod is the first thing I bought after my first big paying gig six years ago. It is a Sachtler Ace. I'm thinking about upgrading the legs to this Flowtech set and keep my existing head. These look great! And I love how you can remove the mid-level spreader. Sometimes it gets in the way.

To those of you who can’t afford, the bit with the lever on the top which extends the legs was already done by Manfrotto about 30 or 40 years ago on the manfotto 058, my dad used for 30+ years as a wedding photographer and I now use the same tripod for my 3D and video business. Still going strong.

Good God, your videos are amazing. Great production value, no b.s., all the info we need, none of the fluff, but still with some personality. Brilliant!! Also, I bought my Sachtler DV2 tripod in 2000, I think. The damn thing is still in perfect condition, so I can't justify getting this one. But it sure looks nice!

It’s not just about the money folks. For a serious filmmaker this is such a worthy investment when other considerations are no longer a problem. One thing I learned the hard way is that when you’re low on cash and you’re in it for the long run, then you’re too poor to be cheap. In other words, when you’re poor, make sure to spend your money on things that will LAST and make you more efficient. Do NOT invest in cheap things. Really. You can’t afford for it to break cause you can’t spend money on another piece of gear all of a sudden, or look bad in front of that new customer cause a piece of equipment broke etc. Now I’m not saying you have to buy this particular tripod, whatever, you’re the only person who knows what matters to you right now. But don’t be cheap. Look beyond the price, especially for the long run.

So I guess now’s not a good time to say I own and have used for the last 15 years a $6,400 Sachtler tripod. Floor spreader, carbon legs, SB-25 head I believe. It is the single greatest piece of kit that I own, it is the smoothest tripod head besides an O’Connor, and those heads are over $20,000. I have never used a single manfrotto product that I liked unless it was brand new out of the box. After 3-4 shoots they start to fall apart and get sticky. If you have to have laser smooth panning and tilting shots you absolutely cannot go wrong with a Sachtler setup. Great video.

You don't need to put down on manufactures to extol the virtues of another. Manfrotto is perfect for the clientele they serve.

@@krane15 I wasn't trying to put them down per-se, I was expressing my personal experience with them. If Manfrotto clients are happy with the results they get awesome! Personally, their products are not up to my standards and I was basically saying, "you get what you pay for". Price, generally, is a reflection of quality, craftsmanship, and longevity. You can spend $600 on a tripod and have to replace it four times in as many years , or you can spend $2400 on a tripod and have it for decades. I get that not everybody can afford high end gear, but crapping on a company for making a quality product and charging a fair price is not helpful either. Same thing happened when Apple introduced the new Mac Pro. People freaked out at the price, but when you realize that the professional clientele that can actually use (and need for that matter) the capability of that workstation are shooting on $100,000 camera rigs recording hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data for their projects, the price point of a Mac Pro is meaningless.

@@krane15 I’ve had my Manfrotto Nitrotec N8 replaced twice under warranty with the 3rd one sitting in the corner gathering dust. They are very cheaply made and not ‘fluid head’ as advertised but packed with grease.

Manfrotto is without a doubt the most overrated camera gear brand out there. Coasting on their reputation from decades ago and the fact that noobs don't understand what actual fluid heads are but making poor quality plastick-y crap that is outperformed by no name Chinese "crap" gear for half the price. This is readily apparent when you're on a shoot and have to handle or use any manfrotto gear that's been in use for more than a few years. It always feels awful.

Quickly being able to deploy legs, and adjust height is soooo nice. Was looking for something like this, but for landscape shots when hiking...so obviously, this is too bulky for my needs, but great for the studio. Just wish it was more affordable (and they had a slim/light backpackable size).

I used to use the sachtler hotpods shooting news with an ENG camera. Those sticks weighed a ton even without the 25-pound camera. Nice to see they're going carbon. Worth every penny.

Very good review from a real user perspective. Needless to say Flowtech with FSB head is really a good tripod system. But for those who can not afford it for the time being, have a look over SCG T8 fluid head. You would be really surprised.

Ended up ordering the Flowtech 75 with the FSB 4 Fluid Head. I couldn't justify the more expensive head yet however, I can always upgrade down the line. I'm most excited for the sticks!!!

It's a bit pricey, but it is really nice. I have one tripod from Sirui (W-2204) with a Sirui Ball Head (K-10 I believe). For photography purposes, this is the BEST set of legs and ball head I've come across. I've tried several and nothing was any good. Now I have a solid setup. For video production work, I'm also looking at the Sachtler FSB-8 Fluid Head and these legs seem to be pretty nice. I'm pretty sure I've seen something similar to this in the past. One lock on the top.Im definitely going to consider this.

A thing to consider with tripods is the maximum weight for camera. With the camera you are showing it is fine but if you are moving up to a big (say) ARRI all rigged up you can bump into that limit. Sachtler can help out there of course, with a bigger tripod, but it may mean the lifetime is shorter than you expect.

Well, for those who have budget and are in film making profession, this is an investment and will have the convenience of using this tripod. Maybe in time, the amount of it will pay off. But for a hobbyist like me, i'll just stick to a desent reliable tripod with affordable price on tag.

$1,200.00 for a set of pro level tripod legs is peanuts. We tested these last year and they are, without a a doubt, the easiest to use and most flexible legs on the market. If you think these are expensive, 75mm is for little tripod heads and relatively light cinema cameras. Step up to bigger, heavier cameras and you are at $3,277.00 for the same legs in the 100mm bowl version. I can't understand why the 100mm version costs three times as much as the 75mm version. Expensive as expected from a Sachtler .. I want to buy it, but when considering price tag, I find the Sirui BCT series carbon fiber tripods makes more sense .. affordable, solidly build and the locking system is better and easier than other video tripods (not as easy as this one's single point access)

I love your content because it appeals to me as I know what it costs to invest in your business. A lot of these guys are b-roll lovers or use a mirror less for professional jobs, so a tripod that’s so expensive doesn’t make sense to them

I just think that many people are enthusiasts and do this as a hobby. Someone doing professional work and getting paid $50,000 for a small commercial shoot isn't going to balk at the price.

Armando Ferreira Very true. I got my first taste of a proper tripod when I borrowed my buddies which was somewhere in the 8,000 range just for the fluid head. I’m glad you came out with this video as 2-3 grand fits more in the budget.

This product may make total since for a full time filmmaker, no doubt. However your favorite features like sideloading and a illuminated bubble level are found on a lot of entry level fluid head products. I don't understand your justification on saying what really 'sold you on it'. Heck, even if your product didn't support sideloading there are plenty of options, like Kessler plates, that are very commonplace. That being said those tripods really are awesome!

Hi, when mounting at slider on top (i.e. Rhino slider) is it still easy to make height adjustments frequently? I wasn’t sure if those red handles are too close to the top making it hard to flip up?

Well this looks amazing and really nice for high end video productions, and the engineering they put on this product is nice. However, considering the price I will start with some mid-range manfrotto stuff when buying my first set of gear, because I'll do video as a hobby and ... well I don't have money yet 😂

You'll get better pans/tilts by using the proper pan handle. That's what it's designed for. Using the on-camera handle you'll never have enough control to guarantee smooth movement.

Absolutely love the legs, really bummed how much more they are charging for the 100mm bowl version (an extra $1250). I just could not get along with the pre set counter balance clicks of the head...close but never perfect. pan up or down and when I let go of the camera it would keep creeping (just like yours at 4:32) went back to Vinten with an infinite balance adjustment for the head. A few other brands also have this type of counter balance Oconner, Cartooni, Really Right Stuff FH-350, and the older Libec before they went downhill with low priced stuff only. Once you use it its impossible to live without, let go of the camera in any angle and it stays EXACTLY in the spot no need for locks while shooting.

Is it a good idea to use existing decent Tripod, and just get the Sachtler Head to fit on it?

This is a good bargain! Back in 1990, I got a Sachtler Caddy. It was $5K! Still perfectly fine in 2020. Buy Sachtler once, it'll last your entire career.

And the price is affordable, just what every vlogger needs, i just bought 4 , one for each of my Canon EOS C700 , yeah, now i need to buy something else i don't know what yet, but i'll find out by the end of the day, maybe a red lambo.
