Transferring a Revit model to Sketchup is one of the first steps I take towards creating an awesome rendering. This is the first part of a tutorial series that takes a model from Revit to Sketchup, then render with Vray and finally finish it off with post-production in Photoshop. I call this Revit-Sketchup-Vray-Photoshop method the RSVP Workflow :)

we can export all views SKP from revit to dwg in one click - in menu export click to "export: " - "in-session view/sheet set", then click to "Show in list" - "Views in the model", and mark all 3d view "SKP"

It doesn't always work like that. Because when I export a drawing all together, editing it in sketchup explodes up my walls into strange forms and not one single wall or face!. I found this way very helpful..

Yeah!! But I think that the way he did it's more organized, 'cause you can apply the materials easier on sketchup, but either way are great

Great tips in here! As stated, due to this being a few years old...there may be new methods. I’ve learned the potential of Transmutr from Minh’s other vids and purchased it. Very powerful and though it may be able to allow for a smooth FBX workflow by borrowing some tips from this vid. After doing some testing with different exporters, I found decent results in setting up isolated Revit views by system, exporting with Twinmotions free FBX exporter, running through Transmutr for correction of scale/up axis and material mapping. Still not painless but better than the old days.

Bruh, great video content my friend. Finally someone found a way to make tutorial videos interesting and fun! I was fully engaged the entire time and learned lot is just 10mins! You are one of the only people ive seen that actually do summaries at the end and show shortcut commands on the video, it helps retain the information alot more :) i wish you did more Revit videos. One question thou, why do you use Vray instead of the Revit renderer ?
@ArchitectureInspirations
@ArchitectureInspirations 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and your positive comment :D The reason why I use Vray in Sketchup is because it's a lot easy to adjust materials and add components and entourage in Sketchup. I'm just a lot better at it than the built-in render engine of Revit :D

A simpler way is to *Export as ACIS solids* Then you can delete the materials in Sketchup and choose yours painting the groups with the bucket and switching the layers to help the organization. But still a very funny tutorial to watch. Thanks for the creativity!

Nice trick. Have you tried using filters based on materials? It might elevate the select/hide requirement. Just a thought. Thanks for this. What do you do if you want the exterior of the wall to show as one material and the interior to show as another? I'm working on a construction phasing and need to show exterior walls being installed with brick on the outside and concrete-ish material on the inside. Thanks.
@ArchitectureInspirations
@ArchitectureInspirations 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can definitely do that too. I'm just not used to working with materials in Revit so I usually just export them per category. Hm I think you can use the paint tool to do that can't you?
@robertandroseglover4654
@robertandroseglover4654 6 жыл бұрын
Problem I found is that Autodesk uses what's called (in 3ds Max at least) multi-sub materials. That means it is one material that houses several component materials. This is common in doors and windows where you'll have an overall "window" material that contains the glass, the mullions, and frame, maybe the hardware, etc. all as sub-materials to the larger. This makes material changes for Revit objects like this problematic in SketchUp.

Hi! First, the tutorial was useful and clear as usual. I just wanted to know if you tried V-Ray for Revit? So, it wouldn't be necessary to export the model from Revit to SketchUp. If you do and still like more render on SketchUp, why?

Hi there! Great question!! So I actually made this video before Vray for Revit came out so back then, there weren't really an option to render Revit model with Vray unless you export it to Sketchup or 3ds Max. So of course you can just use the Vray for Revit plugin and render directly now :D However, to this day, even with the Vray for Revit plugin. Some companies still love to do renderings in Sketchup and 3dsmax. There's a lot of reasons for that. For example, one is because it's easier to model in Sketchup, and there are lots of libraries for furniture like 3dwarehouse, etc. Landscaping in Sketchup is also so much easier now with the Skatter plugin. And quite simply, some people just prefer Sketchup's workflow more than Revit. I hope that helps!! 😄

Hi great tutorial man, but pls I'm having problems when i import my model to SketchUp, i noticed that i can't apply material to any component properly. For example my walls, whenever i apply material to my walls import the material is applied in between the wall thickness rather than the surfaces of the walls

Try selecting everything and inverting the surfaces in sketchup or just double click the component you want to change it's material, CTRL+A, and put the material to apply it to both surfaces. If that doesn't work, probably your model wall's correctly joined in revit so try joining them and ensuring that there's no walls doubling up on each other. ✌️

+Андрій Базів gotcha! I had to set my own shortcut to this symbol ` . Did you have to set your own shortcut too or did your sketchup already have a shortcut for it?
