Wow. My husband and I are just older people who want to stay in shape. We’re adding a heavy bag to our workout in our garage and found this video. Not only was it informative, it goes above and beyond with helpful details that we never would have thought about. Thanks. 3:42

I used the same technique hanging my bag. I also added a spring to help lessen the tension when it bounces. Thanks for the video !

I personally think that it's better to have a mount/hanger with a carabiner that has a swivel which allows the bag to spin and a spring that allows for the bag to bounce so that it's not too stiff and has more mobility. This also prevents less stress on the ceiling where it's mounted because of the spring absorbing the bounce and swivel preventing wear n tear on the mount when force is trying to spin the bag.

Thanks for watching. I like that idea. The last heavy bag I owned came with hardware that swiveled freely. I wasn't the biggest fan of the bag spinning everytime I punch it but you're right about the stress on the ceiling.

@ 3:02 did you only drill one side of the 2x4?? I ordered myself a punching bag and I want to install it in my garage aswell and I’m using this video as a guide. So you put the 2x4 between 2 wooden beams and drilled one side correct?

Great video. Looking at doing this soon for my kids. Why didn't you drill straight into the beam? I this a better option? Thanks
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I didn't drill directly into the truss just for my own preference. Many people do it. I just wasn't comfortable drilling a half inch hole in a truss for a heavy bag with this much weight and movement.

Great video. I'm about to do this in my garage and I was wondering if the longer chain would cause the bag to sway too much too easily. Thoughts?
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Mine does not swing excessively. I think the swaying has more to do with the size/weight of heavy bag you purchase.

Did you have any issues with it shaking the whole house? I did mine similar on our ceiling but kept the 2x4 on the inside instead of cutting a hole and drilled it to the joists above. Shook the whole damn house. 😂

Thanks for watching. It doesn't vibrate through the house. It vibrated bad at my last house, which was older construction without trusses

So how are you covering the hole like you explained? Drywall with a metal grommet?

Bro question? I just hanged my 100lbs heavy bag via ceiling hanging in my garage I felt quite uncertain about it, since my ceiling would bounce a bit ,when I give the bag a good punch 👊 Should I take it down? I do put a spring between the hanger and the bag
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I always suggest putting a buffer between the heavy bag and the actual ceiling/roof structure. Are you familiar with "vibration isolators"? They are used for items that vibrate in construction such as fans that are mounted on roofs or in ceilings. You could introduce some sort of cross-beam support the way I did in this video with the addition of some type of vibration isolation to help reduce the shock absorbed by the ceiling.

How high or low should I hang my heavy bag to line it up properly for my height
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I would mount the top edge of the heavy bag right in line with your height. The straps should connect to the chain even higher than that.

Thanks for the video. Did you use a spring also?
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. No, I didn't end up using a spring. This method pretty much absorbs all sound and vibration. You don't hear any noise vibrating through the joists above.

Is there any risk at all of the wood ever breaking ?
@TheRegularNetwork
@TheRegularNetwork Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The wood could break from excessive water/pest/termite damage that would weaken the 2x4. The wood could also break if you put too much weight on it. For instance, if a 200lb person jumps on the heavy bag and hangs there, there's a good chance the wood will snap. The wood will not break if using a 100lb heavy bag properly and hanging as instructed in this video.
@PeaceNinja007

@@TheRegularNetwork I see. We have wooden beams in the ceiling of our garage but I’m not sure we can use those. They look like structural beams. I’d feel terrible if it broke. So I was thinking of getting 2 separate long wooden beam and laying them on top of a couple of the existing beams in my garage to distribute the weight and reduce the possibility of breaking. Your thoughts?
