Tim,I was a decorator for 50 years and If we had a lot of doors to paint, we would use a mini roller to prime and undercoat (and not lay off,) and then we would use the mini roller for the finish coat and sometimes lay off with a brush depending on the type of timber, door etc..Also when I was an apprentice, I was taught to always pour the paint from the back of the tin, so as not to cover up the paint label on the front. It seems that spray equipment has come on leaps and bounds since I first sprayed portaflek in the seventies.Excellent job as always!

Hi Tim, a tip on those adjustable pliers you use at around 8:40 - 8:45. Don't use em like that, turn them around. You will feel the difference in grip. If you have to squeeze tight and then pull the pliers round you will loose grip due to the pliers wanting to open up. If you squeeze the pliers, then push them round you will increase grip due to the pliers closing for you. (Former plumber here). The doors look great!

I subscribed to this channel after looking at a 400 year old property that needed restoring. Over two weeks, I watched a lot of the videos and bought a new build but still following this along to see where you get to. Will the restoration couple ever become the restored couple? Find out next week...or the week after... or the week after that.... :)

Great job there,i would have been tempted to use a stain blocking primer on the doors just in case of any bleed through or knotting that might occur later on especially with older doors, this basically stops any resins in the natural wood from coming through to the paint finish, water based paints are normally not great at holding this back without a stain block primer, spraying is the way to go i think and beats a brush finish all day long i think

Quick question as to why you primed before filling the holes and putting the block in the old lock casing hole? Be good to know if there’s a benefit to this as I would’ve thought you’d want to prime over the filler as well so it’s less likely to show through the finish coat?
