I have a 2002 F150 Harley Davidson. My temp indicator is in my temp controls in the dash. So my upper console display is for the compass only. But I had the same issue. Before I soldered the connections, I thought I would clean off any dirt with electronic cleaner and a q-tip. As I brushed across the diodes and the first one (510) came off. The others seemed secure. Soldered the fist one back on and hit the others for good measure. Works Great. Thanks for the video. I always love saving money.

Just worked on the compass/temperature gauge on my 2000 Ford Expedition using the instructions from your video. It works great! I can't remember the last time it worked, has been 5 or 10 years I would guess. Thanks for the posting the great video, I couldn't have fixed it without this.

Thank you, you save hundreds with this quick fix, it has been bugging me for years, now it's just like new!

I just fixed my 2001 F-150 overhead console TODAY 7/2022. The "diodes" are actually chip resistors. One of my 510 resistors actually fell off, and was lost. I had to research the "chip resistors" to find that 510 is actually a 51 ohm resistor (51 followed by zero zeros, for 51) and the 181s are 180 ohm resistors (18 followed by one zero, for 180). I popped off the remaining 510 resistor and measured it, to be sure, and it measured 50.8 ohms. I replaced both 510 chip resistors with two 1/4 watt, 51 ohm discrete resistors (Green (5) Brown (1) Black (0 zeros) Gold stripes (5% tolerance)). I soldered the leads of the two new resistors onto the little pads where the chip resistors were (tedious, and not pretty). Put it all back together and it worked, eeee haaa! Not sure how long it will last, since apparently it somehow got hot enough to melt the solder on the original chip resistors, with one falling completely off. Also, I found that the original chip resistors were rated at 1 watt and my two regular resistors are rated at 1/4 watt. We will see.... And thanks for the GREAT video!!!

Great instructions! Worked perfectly....took me longer to unplug the damn harness than it did to disassemble and solder diodes!! Mine is like Firefighters below (I guess) as mine is only showing the compass and my temperature readout is on dash climate control. The console readout hasn't worked in so long I don't remember what it used to display but the compass is working now and that is good enough for me!!! Thanks Again!

Just fixed my 2001 F150 4x4 supercrew. Thanks. Perfect fix. The parts that are loose/have cold solder joints are actually chip resistors and not diodes. The number on them is the resistance in ohms. Mine had one missing. It must have fallen out at some point. I replaced it with a similar size I got off of an old PCM module I had laying around. It worked great. My temp and compass display went out a few years back. I have also had numerous moon-roof leaks that have giving me fits and other probs over the years. (the design sucks) Yesterday, I taped the moon-roof window seals shut with rainproof PVC tape after sitting on a wet seat. I had had enough. While fixing the temp/compass display, I also disconnected the connector to the moon-roof control so no one would by mistake or on purpose open the roof with the tape on there. I love killing two birds with one stone! Thanks again

Just fixed mine. Worked great. 10 mins. Popped it out, disconnect the plug.. took inside took apart like you showed , soldered it, put bk together popped bk in.. put key in ignition turned key came on.. started truck stayed on. Lol. Thanks so much .

Pulled mine apart, found a diode rattling around, soldered it back on, and now it's working. Took me all of 20 min. Also added a bit of solder to the rest just for good measure.

I have one bulb that went out, want to replace both but don't want to remove the console more than once, can't find part number anywhere. I was living with the display being out but now light and display going to fix it all in one bang

I took it apart as you've shown and discovered some bare wires which I re taped. I then notice a burn spot on the display screen and one 510 resistor not there but laying in the housing. I think it needs the attention of a pro! Any ideas on who might fix these?

Will this fix the mirror display as well when fixed? For some reason my mirror display stopped working at the same time.

You forgot to setup the compass with the correct direction the vehicle is pointing.

I am getting 2 or200 seen my leisure worse so I can have different we can trunks and if they break I can take one out of the van take the whole overhead display out of one of the trucks and put it in the second one so I wouldn't have this issue like you have an it's yours so get to Mazdsevens problem

Those are not diodes... they're 1/4 watt flat resistors. If it says 680 or 620 on it, it is a 68 ohm or 62 ohm resistor respectively. Other than that, great video.
