Jeff, how would you go about summer scouting in situations like Minnesota where cams are illegal on most public and the parcels are pretty small and accessible and usually don't hold many deer as much as are transition areas?

Just curious everyone's thoughts on sugar beets for food plot if planted as a monoculture at the proper time without mixing with other seed species.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
Very poor choice unless fenced in nearly all situations. If fenced they can be awesome! I've even seen fenced and irrigated which can be incredible. Almost all fail tho, because they aren't fenced or they are planted in a brassica mix. They also need to be planted alongside something else...the other 1/2 of the plot. If someone was going to take the time to Fence, I would go with beans over beats in most situations. We are actually fencing beans today...

What happened to the bean component in the bean pea mix?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick! I haven't really relied on the beans for a fee years, personally? They are temperamental for germination the way most food plotters plant and they offer less volume in a short growing season than buckwheat or tillage radish. So what I have been doing is adding a layer of buckwheat and then tillage radish to the traditional WHS blend from several years ago, and adding more peas. That dilutes the oats and allows for more green. My own mix is based on more what I do personally each season and it goes back to my roots from over 20 years ago.

Hi Jeff, getting ready to plant tillage radish and brassica on my first try at a food plot. Are there some seed you can't spray Gly over? In a video from last year you noted about using round up ready beans and corn. So I guess that's the reason for my question.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg! You can spray Gly directly over all seeds...been doing that for 20 years and 100s of acres of plantings. When spraying Gly on beans and corn, that takes place when the plants are growing...say 12 to 18" high for corn. We also use roundup and 2-4D ready Coen and beans. That refers to when they are growing and you xan actually spray on the plants weeks after they germinate.

Like Jeff said, ALL seed is tolerate of glyphosate; gly is a post-emergent killer and will not harm any seed whatsoever.
