I've done a lot of experiments about what the best loop knot for lures is and the clear winner is always the non-slip loop knot.
It's strong and the tag end faces toward the lure so it's essentially weedless.
However, there are a few ways to tie the non-slip loop knot, which leads us to the next question:
What's the best way to tie the non-slip loop knot?
Some people say you should use two turns, while others say three or four.
Instead of leaving this up for debate or relying on anecdotal evidence, I decided to do an experiment.
I used my line/knot strength tester to test two turns vs. three vs. four turns.
There was a difference in strength between these three versions of this loop knot, but the results were not what I was expecting!
See what the strongest version of this knot is, as well as which version I'll be tying from now on in this video.
Were these results what you expected?
Have any questions about the best way to tie the non-slip loop knot?
Let me know in the comments below.

Can you try the reliability of Omniflex monofilament from walmart. It costs under 2$ for 150yds of and mono from 10lb to 50lb plus ive used this for years and havent had any thing wrong with it, ive recently switched to Trik fish and ANDE line because it felt more confident to buy from a brand ment for leader line. Thanks

@@Saltstrong also maybe some sort of brace or clamp to hold the bar holding the line could be helpful.

@@Saltstrong maybe consider tying a Bimini twist at either end for 100% knots so you have a benchmark of the real breaking strain of the line, then mentions the diameter of the line, you can then make a better comparison knot strength to diameter etc

Luke, why do you now like the Ande mono for your leader instead of florocarbon? A while back you tested Berkeley against Seaguar Floro and seemed to be pretty high on the Berkeley.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 3 жыл бұрын
Because this line beat the Berk Vanish that beat the Seaguar while being more affordable than both of them.

Since you are going to the effort to make measurements, you should secure the pull tester to a solid surface (note glasses of water indicating side-side motion) and secure the line directly below the direction of tension, rather than at an angle held by hand.

Some people use a uni or San Diego Jam that is not entirely clinched down as a loop substitute. It seems to work OK.

I hear other fisherman say what you did. They use heavier mono to the bait, than the braid on the maim line. 20lb mono to 10lb braid, wouldn't you loose more line that way when it brakes. Never could understand why you would want to do that.

In any case your loop knot in your leader should be stronger than your main line if your leader is heavier. Your leader to main line knot is more important.
