Adam Kay, co-founder of Untitled Motorcycles, popped into the ‘Shed to drop off a customer’s Moto Guzzi - so we pointed a camera at him.
Product designer Joe was given a crusty old barn find of a V50 by his father-in-law to be, but without the time or space to restore it himself the basket case was delivered to Untitled for an overhaul.
Untitled Motorcycles have branches in London & San Francisco and have a substantial back catalog of award winning builds.

Beautiful. The trick with the black lower section on the tank works a treat I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out.

Excellent. Bidding on a v50 now. Doesn't run,but all there. I've been wanting a Guzzi for 15 years now, a nice add to my HD assortment.

Beautiful design and build work, and of course a great build execution ! Would like to be able to see it and hear it running through the gears a bit however ! That short little start-up at the end was only a tease of what could be !

It is very difficuilt because you can't get spoke wheels for the rear wheel which is shaft drive. Please tell je if you can, as I woukd like to change mine.
@johnmooney185
@johnmooney185 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardray6827 I think you'd need to replace the whole shaft with one from another, bigger Guzzi and this would lengthen the wheelbase? I'd like to do the same with my V50 but I understand it's a big job that then leads to more work as the original rear mudguard wouldn't sit right etc.

I had a V50 III. A wonderful thing to ride and own. Frankly, I would have left it standard or almost standard... It is sweet that you removed the front guard, on the basis that it won't be used on rain.... As a former (very former, 1980s) bike courier, I can assure you that they're not just there for water. On the (hugely) plus side, you didn't wrap the pipes... There are better uses for hessian. Good move! I would love to own that bike. I would put a front guard on it and so e very sticky tyres.... The V50 was always a better bike than almost any tyres that fitted it.

Superb job. I amlooking at buying a v50iii and this has got lots of the simple things I want. I googled the price for the indicators, wow! Very expensive! They look good though. The bike looks gteat. Well done.

How much (if any) over stock length are those rear shocks?...v50s tend to sit low and squat at the back but I really like the stance you have here?....

Being an old Brit myself I have an awful habit of comparing todays "Cafe Racers" with the ones I remember from the late 50's right through the 60's . Real classics like Gold and Rocket Gold Stars, Bonnevilles, Norton, Dominators & 99's, Big Royal Enfield Interceptors all popular bikes to convert to Cafe Racer trim (apart from the Goldies as they were both Cafe Racers straight from the factory. This is a lovely bike , well made with good touches, but that undefinable "something" is missing? I wish I knew what it was but I have never been able to figure it out! Well done to the builders, a bike to be proud of.

It is because this bike came 30 years later than when you Brits used modified bikes to race between cafes, and now everybody think you were the epitome of cool and want to pay homage to your youth modding bikes that came on the scene 30 years later. The wrong step is labelling today's modded bikes "cafe racers" when that way of life is long gone.

Hmm, nice, you have turned the fork legs 180°, on the MKIII the calipers normally are pointing to the rear. Nice proportions, the sound is bad ass but you have to ride in fourth gear when in town.......otherwise its to loud.

I wondered the same about the forks. Wouldn't that affect the rake and handling negatively?

I have a 1976 Moto Guzzi v1000 I convert all stock dual disc brakes up front and my calipers are mounted to the front side of the fork tubes. I know it is not the common way to mount them as I have seen looking at many other bikes but then Moto Guzzi has had a habit of doing things differently at times.
@gregorytimmons4777
@gregorytimmons4777 5 жыл бұрын
The early LeMans had the triangular Brembo calipers mounted in front of the fork tubes like my 76 1000 I convert. I think that may have been common on 70's era Moto Guzzi's.

Really nice bike, love old Guzzi's. I know it is a personal thing but i really don't like that big space under the seat. You see it a lot on cafe rebuilds and it just looks like something is missing and gives bikes an unfinished look for me. I am an old fart though!

It's a polarising subject. Some people like the lean, lithe look of naked frames, unadorned with batteries or side-panels covering fuses and electrics, and others see the side panels as part of the bodywork. Each to their own. To me it depends on the bike. Some suit the see-thru look and others don't. - Dutch

I'd probably make a compartment to fill the gap and put waterproofs or other items in it. But I suppose for some aesthetics are priority.

Why is it the fashion today to completely clear out the side panel area on today's "cafe racers"? I personally think it just makes the bikes look empty and a bit flimsy..

“He didn’t want a front mudguard because it’s never going to be ridden in the rain...”!! He’s either on special terms with god, or a total poser. No, I’m wrong. Everyone knows god is a real biker, and he would never rip out the essentials and leave a Bermuda Triangle in that passé waster ‘style’. Please, will people STOP assuming they know what a cafe racer looks like, STOP assuming they have the ability to improve on a classic, and STOP RUINING THESE BEAUTIFUL BIKES? Peace
