I've put a card of the complete build in the beginning of each of these individual parts, so if KZfaq recommended this video to you, but you haven't seen the full build video, watch that instead, as it's the full thing start to finish.

The V50III was an excellent machine out of the box. Just delicious, like a good coffee. But this.... This might be even better. Capricious, lumpy, tricky.... But somehow wonderful. Normally I would hate the idea of a V50 being messed with (particularly a III or a Monza).... But what you have here is excellent messing. I hope you get it sorted and have a lot of good rides on it. Mad, but mad in a good way. Congratulations. Such a happy machine. Such a daft machine. Such an excellent machine.

Doing a first test drive of a custom turbo engine on camera is pretty brave. Nothing blows up faster than a new custom turbo engine that isn't designed to handle a turbo, running 19.5:1 air to fuel! haha. Luckily motorcycles are overbuilt.

Cool bike! To make your carb meter the fuel correctly under boost. You need a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator and you need to somehow seal the carburetor so that it can handle the boost without messing up the floats. You need to get the boost inside the float bowl of the carb to aid in better metering while under boost and thats also why you need a boost referenced fpr to be able to maintain a fuel pressure that is higher than your boost.
@Peanutdenver
@Peanutdenver 2 жыл бұрын
You're right, but can that be accomplished? It's a cool bike but will have a myriad of problems from heating issues to pressure/boost issues and electrical issues after a very short period of time. I just started watching this channel so I don't know the whole story on this bike, though I'm sure he's building this Guzzi for shits and giggles and not pure performance and longevity.
@fredrichedman8986
@fredrichedman8986 2 жыл бұрын
@@Peanutdenver You wont be able to get the same reliability as with a production bike. But im pretty sure you could modify the carb or swap to a different carb to be able to go into boost safely for short periods of time. How long you safely can stay into boost without intake temps or detonation etc sky rocketing though is another problem all together. But I think its very possible to use it as a nice café racer that will be able to make boost safely for a short period and very fun rides around the neighborhood.

Great to see and great design. Fun to watch the assembly. The guzzi is such an aesthically pleasing symmmetrical design especiallly in a cafe racer stripped down look. like how the frame accomodated all the parts and how the turbos complimented the barrels. A turbo hanging out in the wind looks insane. Next version 1100 lemans with coloured highlights ? like red housing on the turbo ? Great work. My ears are still ringing.

@@DoctorMotorcycle You would certainly have found out otherwise almost instantly. I wouldn't chance my luck too often, but I already saw your post on FBook in the Turbo & EFI group and also think, bumping up the fuel pressure should solve it. If not, a bigger pitot would be another way of fixing it.

@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It's "loud" but a straight piped Harley is wayyyyy more loud. People that were up walking were waving and giving the thumbs up, it not offensive loud riding around part throttle. Pretty much everyone in my neighborhood is a gearhead or has something loud, it's a non-issue.

I believe you may see an increase in boost pressure if your right turbo forces air to the left cylinder, and vice versa. If each cylinder is fed by the turbo on its own exhaust, it cannot effectively create boost as it acts like a single cylinder engine. The reasoning behind this is that as the exhaust stroke spins the turbine, the intake valve is closed but only enough pressure is built on that one cylinder's exhaust stroke, so it barely pressurizes the plenum or manifold leading to the carb/ throttle body. With the turbos feeding the opposite cylinder, I believe they will be 180° out of phase and therefore better able to pressurize the manifold/ plenum going to each carb.

Have you built this for a particular purpose? I can´t think what it would be suitable for in any practical sense. My V50 Monza had more power than I could ever fully use on public roads, and there are much faster Guzzis, so I´m not sure what you feel you´ve gained from all that work. I´d be interested to learn how much the project cost, and what alternative bikes you could have bought for the money.

Cool bike. Watch your shifts. Guzzi V50s will float the valves on a missed upshift and either break one at the base of the stem or throw the keepers and drop one. Ask me how I know. Wish I could post a pic of the damage.
@DoctorMotorcycle
@DoctorMotorcycle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up, I normally try to avoid WOT 1-2 shifts for that reason. It's something that's always in the back of my mind. I missed a shift on the turbo GS400 and the valvetrain has been noisy ever since. Probably needs a .005" adjustment haha.
