Dougal and I do a Whisky Tour with a difference. Inspired by the Malt Whisky Trail, we visit Glenfiddich in Dufftown, then take the Keith to Dufftown Heritage Railway to Keith where on an earlier visit I had visited the Strathisla distillery. A brilliant day out in Speyside!
Full disclosure: The distillery tours and visit to the Cooperage were arranged by the Malt Whisky Trail and provided by the companies visited for the magazine article that I am in the area to produce. A HUGE thank you to Eleanor at Malt Whisky Trail for arranging these.
The Malt Whisky Trail Website is a great resource to plan your Whisky Trip - check it out here: maltwhiskytrail...
A great place to start is the Speyside Cooperage to watch the casks being made or refurbished: www.speysideco...
In Dufftown we visited the Glenfiddich Distillery: www.glenfiddic...
In Keith we visited the Strathisla Distillery where I heartily recommend the Blending Experience, which includes 5 premium whiskies, and the opportunity to blend your own 20cl bottle of whisky... sampling your blend as often as you like! It finishes with a another generous measure at the bar! All are available to take-away if you are driving: www.maltwhisky...
PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY. You don't want to end up in the state of the fellow passengers we were sharing the outward train journey with... :-/
We had lunch in the Sidings Cafe: / sidings-cafe-dufftown-...
For details about the Keith to Dufftown Railway (The Whisky Train) please see: keith-dufftown...
Meanwhile, a huge 'Thank You' to Adria UK for the loan of the Adria Twin 640SLB. Check it out here: www.adria.co.uk/

On the outward train trip, a coach party had booked up half the train, forcing the rest of us into one carriage The presence of a very drunk group made for an interesting cultural experience. Sadly, one of the party had a mouth on her like a sewer which wasn't very impressive when there were young kids in the same carriage. Hey-ho. The trip back was MUCH quieter!

I disagree with the reply here. I think it’s an accurate reflection of the sort of behaviour that sadly some people do exhibit when in a public place. This extra comment from you here to explain is sufficient explanation of the rowdy behaviour you experienced. When we, as members of the public, go on this trip we do not sadly get the nice music playing in our ears automatically, so the accuracy is justified! Well done on another informative blog, I like the new feel to them personally.

I think Vectra 548 needs to get back down on his knees and pray a bit harder! “Sorry mate” is a condescending and egotistical verbatim! To complain about something that you may not like and then call someone your mate is outrageous and laughable also unforgivable! Maybe we should get that lady back to tell him to fook off! Rant over!

Great to see Dougal in his little coat. Also loved the tours and the experience on the train. I felt like I was on the train with you. Your videos are always really informative and it contrasted well with the views out of the windows and the chatter in the background. Hearing the others chatting away kept it authentic 🙂

Ah, I do enjoy a dram - although Islay is home to most of my favourites... There's nothing quite like sitting on the Port Ellen shoreline in the sunset, within the gorgeous peaty smell from the maltings, with a delicious glass of Bunnahabhain in your hand ... 🥃

My Scotland trips seem to be liberally dotted with whisky tours but 'when in Rome'! I'd recommend the Clynelish distillery too as it's in staggering distance of the gorgeous Brora caravan and motorhome site. Thanks Andrew, more locations/walks/distilleries to add to my list!

Cracking little video, my 2 favourite Distilleries!! I stay in Dufftown at least twice a year, one for the Whisky Festival and again for New Year (Bagpipes, Fireworks and free whisky!!!) I've been going for 15 years and still haven't done the Duff/Keith Train, I really should. If you'd like a more 'permanent' base to settle into for a few days so you can explore more, we have a Cottage that sits just under Balvenie Castle, it's our family cottage but is always open to Visitors for 'Mates Rates' when we're not there. Dufftown/Aberlour/Craigellachie have so much to offer to people who want to walk, explore, cycle etc. I just need my Lottery win so I can move up to the Highlands permanently. :)

Fantastic tour in all that 'liquid sunshine'. Great to see the old diesels still working. I am no railway expert but I do remember being taken home by one of those (in Southern Region livery) on the Southern Region during a big train strike in the 1980s. I loved it then and still like the big windows and the bench seats. Distillery tours look amazing, especially when you can blend your own. Will have to get up there sometime. Thanks for another great vlog, kisses to Dougal.

Great Vlog Andrew and Dougal! We did that exact trip on the railway when we were there in April. My Greyhound managed to fall down the gap between the train and platform at Keith, but the staff were really helpful and let me have a ladder to go down on the track and lift him up. Really enjoyable trip though. Have the cooperage and Strathisla on the list for next time. Thumbs up from us 👍🏻

An extremely interesting tour video. I always enjoy the old DMUs which were once commonplace and just transportation, but now bring back memories. I also loved the distillery tours. I am very familiar with Glenfiddich bottled products but I have never toured a distillery or, unfortunately, ever set foot in the British Isles, so this was my one chance to see the place.

How lovely that Dougal is allowed on trains. Is that common in the U.K.? Not allowed in the states, & now states are passing laws that we may not leave our dogs unattended in our RVs! Most federal parks do not allow dogs on trails, only at campsites & on roads.
