@@rickyricardo113 First of all, both Streep and Close are very close friends and have been for forty years. They even appeared together in "House of the Spirits" and won critical acclaim. Close has always been considered the premiere STAGE actress, while Streep gave up theater very early to focus on film. Both are so great and possess talents so overwhelming that their careers are the envy of all American actresses.

Wow - I never knew Glenn Close could sing - and so beautifully. She really *is* Desiree in this performance - haughty, painfully and ironically self-aware, too self-controlled to cry, and almost amused by her own foolishness, yet aching on the inside. She ends with a glimmer of hope. She really lives this performance. Bravo.

Then I came across Judy Dench’s rendition of the same song during a London stage performance: I had teary eyes. This is a superb and my favourite rendition of this poignant song. Glenn Close inhabits the song, she fully understands its tone of resignation and as an actress she conveys the role of the character from A Little Night Music. This stands streets above the awful Frank Sinatra version (the man had obviously not seen A Little Night Music as he says its about a couple who have been together for years but are breaking up...) and indeed I think the Julie Christie version has none of the steel here. I need hardly mention that stunning gown she was wearing. This whole tribute concert to Stephen Sondheim was a mark of how esteemed and cherished this genius of musical theatre was. He wrote to me some kind words in his usual self-deprecating style after I had written to express my gratitude for all he had done. That letter is one of my treasure possessions.

Many singers (male and female) have sung this song. This version was a great pleasant surprise for me! I didn't know it...Glenn Close is amazing!

Absolutely stunning. One of the most genuine songs written for the industry and no one better to sing it. Brilliant!

A beautiful song beautifully rendered. Her rendition is so simple that she lets the song do the work the song is intended to do.

Her rendition seems simple but only because of her incredible talent. Few if any others can match the perfection of this performance. She almost makes it look easy. But that's the work of a consummate talent. Brilliant!

This is one of my favorite performances of this song. It still makes my eyes water within moments - and keeps those emotions stirring until the end.

A very strong, clear voice sung with great feeling! I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the incomparable great Glenn Close performing in the hit Broadway show, "Barnum" in the early 1980s before she became the legend she is today! Another great Broadway show that should be performed more than it has been with gorgeous lyrical songs says this lifelong pianist and composer of an American folk opera which has been performed in public in New England. I have a quote to paraphrase the late great Sondheim, '''creating art is easy, it's financing it that's hard"! So true! Thanks BestArtsSondeim!
