While I understand your sentiment, I think it’s skewed. Yes, there are people from “protected groups”. Which by the way, anyone of any race (including white people) are protected from any sort of discrimination. So, in general, you’re protected from being discriminated against due to your race (which I’m sure, since you’re logical, begs to question why you would need protection from discrimination). Anyways, there are people from “protected groups” who don’t fall into those negative statistics, so should those people be protected? Or should they call into the category just solely based on the color of their skin or religion? If you answer yes, then you believe in the old adage, “people should be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin…”. If the answer is no, then that’s why those protection laws are in place because of people that would answer no. If someone is seemingly a decent person, hard worker and contributing member to society, then why should they be discriminated against for features they had no say in? That’s the point of discrimination and protected groups. Discrimination is not withholding responsibility from people within those groups, i.e. if someone from those “protected groups” is a criminal then that’s what they are and they should be treated like one. “Protected groups” were designed to pretext those who aren’t criminals, thieves, or generally bad people from being discriminated against by those who don’t care about the right to pursue happiness and only judge those based on outer appearances, theologies and so on. I live in Wyoming, I’m a member of one the so called “protected groups” (which I think is stupid because we shouldn’t need to label this stuff, people should just be decent) and I earn 250k/yr contributing to my community, educating my children, no criminal record, fought in Afghanistan war on multiple deployments and live my neighbor. There are some who still hate me, and I’ll be the first to admit that it’s much less than it was in the past. Anyways, I wish you the best in all endeavors and I hope that you can find a way to love others.

Ask yourself this question. Why would some groups need protecting? Why would Civil Rights laws have to be passed regarding that matter?

He was just an unpleasant man. As a NOLS staffer, I got to experience wild places in Idaho that few people ever see.

While that guy could have definitely said it in a nicer way, he had a serious point. 20 Seconds of your dogs barking could send a colt back to day 1 of training.

She was exceedingly well-behaved, never aggressive, and always under voice command. The guy was just a grumpy Mormon farmer. EVERYONE would want that. Sadly, this documentary has shown Idaho to be exclusionary and not welcoming of newcomers, particularly from CA. Except the very nice neighbor bringing cookies at the beginning, as she was from CA too. Meaning the common values and beliefs will migrate over time, just as the residents have.
