We are from the neighboring state of Nagaland i.e. Manipur. Before the Christian Missionaries came, lives in the tribal areas are pretty much the same, they kill, they claim territories and slaves too. These groups were never bigger than a village. The things they worship differs from tribe to tribe and not just one entity. My grandparents are Christians but their grandparents aren't and according to grandparents who told us tales (some facts, some folklore) our forefathers worshipped dried heads of parents, demonic pythons, forest spirits, house spirits, and just any forms the spirits takes. They even have healers and conveyers or mediums for these spirits. So many rules of the spirits you have to be aware of, like - 1. You can't excrete or take a piss anywhere in the jungle because that might be where spirits dwells. 2. You can't hunt just any animal you want because they are protected by spirits (Mostly because they are a fine specimen of their herd). 3. You must leave out food for spirits every time you eat. 4. leave parts of animals you've hunted in the jungle to please the forest spirits. 5. You don't kill extraordinary looking snakes/pythons (because killing a spirit python can bring floods or landslides). 6. You bury a dead body before noon or it can be possessed and walk around. 7. People even marry spirits. Those that make that decision dies. 8. There are all types of spirits, generally good and bad. Having a good house spirit can bring good fortune. 9. Good looking youths will apply sooth on parts of their face to ward away evil. And so much more... But what I really wanted to convey here is that the Christian missionaries completely changed our beliefs and the nature of our lives (We even have a part of town named after them, Pearson). The values, meanings and development it brought into our lives and region is amazing. We live in towns and cities now and worship the living God. And the next generation will not even believe that we were once a tribe of forest dwellers and worshippers of spirits. It just fades into myths and legends.

"... someone who learns how to forgive others and how to live in peace, work for the well-being of all the people in the community as well as with others - that is considered to be the warrior."
