You seem underwhelmed. Totally legit but care to elaborate on what went on ik your heads? Indeed she's a poet and a storyteller. Truth gets sacrificed for good storytelling. Some people went too far and thought she was advocating doing coke and whoring yourself out. Like, read a fairytale sometime shiiit.

@@GreetingsFromBlackwoodFarm i dont think we were underwhelmed, its a great song and story with a great video to go along with it. there are a lot of ways to interpret the song/video and i think they could and more than likely would be different if not viewed together the main take away i think both of us got from ride is a sense of being fortunate with our lives and life choices and balance of party survival and adventure. plus its not always a cut and dry choice that gets you to your point in life, things spiral fast. i also think if any artist is going to get backlash from fans or critics, they arent fans and fuck critics. you have to accept them as the ppl they are flaws and all. just like you enjoy their art and glad they explore, even if that means not every song is for you

I think she carries the essence of Taoism in this project, it’s her most misunderstood project to date in my opinion. The freedom she speaks of is one that challenges you to think outside of your perspective & any that you’d ever entertain without making sure the life/view of life you currently have is always in reach and you can retreat back to because it’s soo taboo especially in our modern society. She invites you to fully immerse into and feel your true nature, the multitudes of your self, stepping out of your comfort zone and just being and living, learning, loving, losing with an immense grasp of what having hope really means. She captures where she loses a lot of people in the line “ When the people I used to know found out what I had been doing how I had been living, they asked me why, but there’s no use talking to people who have a home..”, you could never teach that feeling /fully grasp that concept of lose/freedom only understand through particular life experiences. Also you could say her perspective of freedom challenges yours, of working until you achieve enough money and can do whatever you want but how many of us work until we die and never get to that point you know, you become a slave in pursuit of capitalism, when you live like this and believe in the kindness of strangers you don’t think “ where am I gonna eat next ..” in the way someone in society caught up in the rat race would, it’s a whole different perspective of life that can really be hard to understand by many in our society which is why I applaud her work because she doesn’t care how unusual she is/lives it’s all about a “fire for every experience” and knowing that there is more in reading in between the lines than you could ever fathom. This life she’s portraying in this era is just like you said the steps you have to take to achieve your peace she knew what she was doing “ And if I said I didn’t plan for it to turn out this way I’d be lying” it’s a untethered feeling from control but you’re in control always it’s weird to explain in text, she’s very young here all these experiences were collected from her life at 27 and younger, her growth from this era to her current state in Chemtrails is magnificent, and is soaked from wisdoms learned from the life experiences and perspectives she’s entertained on her journey. I enjoyed the reaction from you guys, as always! 👏🏾👏🏾🤙🏾

Ride is such an important song to me now because it makes me reflect on my 18 year old depressed self. I sing it with so much gratitude on how her music has helped me feel my emotions fully. To understand 'Ride', you have to have a notion of Lana's history, in fact as you advance in her music and her lyrics, you understand much more the structure of her art, her vision, her history. On the video it is evident that it is about a girl who is really hurt with a very dark past and that now on stage she is not happier or less wild, she is a girl who finds herself traveling, she is wrong but she is comforted to feel free.

This is my perspective. Lana once said her music is 100 % autobiographical. But I thnik it’s important do distinguish between music (lyrics) she writes and videos. The videos are interesting beautiful, but imaginary stories, in her visuals she is creating a different reality, another dimension if you will.

I always felt like this song was a metaphor for “just keep going”. When your mind is not a peace, you feel that conflict even more so when you’re stagnant. You shut down, and get lost in the battles with the different demons and traumas from your past. Most people go for walks, or go work out, to “let off some steam”, but this song just paints the picture of finding that release on the road. Maybe a car ride may do it for some, but the rush of the wind, the feeling of flying is incomparable. The various men in the video are also seeking the same release, an escape from whatever torments them. A chance to feel uninhibited, and not alone; be it anonymously with a lover, or in a crowd of others who create the safe-space for them to do so. Her melancholy and loneliness ultimately follow her with every man, every situation she found herself in, but these moments were a surge of electricity for her. Momentary, maybe, but always looking for more. In constant danger of finding more trouble. Risky, but thrilling. Crazy. The dichotomy of freedom and being tethered to the fight within us. For her, freedom is in those moments. On that bike. With those men. With those road dogs. In the open air, her issues gone with the wind. We all have our escapes, our releases. We all get tired of feeling fucking crazy. That’s why this song resonates. A reminder to just ride.

I was waiting for this reaction. No one gets me in my feelings like Lana. I think we all question our sanity at some point in our lives. It's such a lonely feeling.....yet we all have felt, feel or will feel it at some point in our lives. I personally don't see it as she's an addict or prostitute and what comes along with it. I think it's everyone's story and struggle to find who they are and what they are meant to be in life. Transcends, background, age, ethnicity, sex etc. It's just the human struggle...as simple yet highly complex as that.

I like the last few lines of this song when she says "Are you in touch with your darkest fantasies and have you created a life for yourself where you get to experience them? I have, I am fucking crazy....but I am free" and they feel to me like the key to the cypher that is Lana del Rey, becauase it feels like each and every of her songs are these windows into the life of these tortured, sad or ecstatic characters and she - as an artist - gets to live through them her own wildest fantasies. It's almost as books are to the reader, you get to be Captain Ahab one day and chase whales, and then you get to be a writer on the road during the beat era the next day, and then you get to be Anna Karenina and suffer and commit su***de out of love and so on. She has created her perfect life which lets her create all these beautiful worlds and beautiful people. And the fact that she's never telling us for sure that these are or aren't her own experiences allows us to live all these stories along with her and imagine her as the character. It's brilliant. She has created this imagined world which some might call crazy, but in her world she is free to be whatever and whomever she wants and to live for her art. BTW not to say she didn't go through stuff, I mean all that inspiration must come from real life, but maybe it din't happen exactly like in the stories. After all, that's what a good storyteller does, tells even the sadest or most basic story in a wat that makes you think or feel, in a way that moves you.

Most of the men I see react to this don't seem to get it and are like "oh she's living her life so free and does want she wants" lol. And I'm just doing a face palm. I'm so glad you picked up on the theme here and talked about how she isn't likely living this lifestyle by choice but out of need for survival.

I think the roads and bikers are just metaphors ... Maybe they represent her career and her life as an artist struggling her way to fame in Hollywood? That one rich guy in white shirt looked like a producer, almost a mirror image of the powerful and free bikers on the open road - both being people who don't exactly abide by the rules of an honest (and restricted) lifestyle.

i beg to differ on you saying how you said it was not a freedom to survive each day. Isn't that what everyone is doing each day going to work? even though you may have money in your account and savings yet you are stuck in this cycle of repetitiveness. you are working for this so called country called "America" where privilege is only given to those who are of a certain color, gender and class. I am Native American and access to a job but no access to clean water or electricity i get it. We called our home where ever we laid our head down because this land is our home but our home was taken, so living free is not idolizing towards these western cultures that signified that the "white man" was correct to colonize our life.

Too many pauses. Just enjoy the show man.

I appreciate the criticism. We don't purposely pause, we just do when something comes to mind. We have had comments saying too many pauses, too few of pauses, we talk to much or we don't talk enough lol... Can't win sometimes

no offense but you guys have no idea, i wouldn't expect men who try and match their inside hats to their shirt to cover their hairline, people do seek this life because they want to. Big thing in Australia.
