Song is about… The Princess decides that 'None shall sleep' (the literal translation of 'Nessun dorma') in the entire kingdom until Calaf's name is discovered. Any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. In the aria, Calaf expresses his triumphant assurance that he will win the princess. Song is the expressed triumph.

On your own, please watch it again with the CLOSED CAPTIONS on. It has so much more impact when you know what he is singing. I went to Wikipedia to read the context of this aria. An unknown prince is trying to win the hand of a princess and risking his life by solving her riddles. He succeeds, but when she doesn't want him, she must risk her life by trying to guess his name by morning. Nessun Dorma means "no one sleeps". The princess tasks everyone in the city to discover the prince's name by morning. The aria tell of how much the prince loves her and can't wait until dawn until he can go to her and whisper his name as he kisses her. "At dawn, "VINCERO!" ( "I WILL WIN!")

I loved watching your delighted reaction! Dan does many songs that aren’t metal or metal covers - when he metalizes something he clearly states it. He has extensive classical vocal training in addition to metal training (which is very specific), Please check out his Music of the Night from Phantom. It’s a perfectly straight, stage-worthy performance, in which he portrays the Phantom’s seductiveness but also his slight creepiness. And, as has already been pointed out, Dan’s Gethsemane is breathtaking and heart-wrenching. He also does some wonderful folk songs, like Scarborough Fair or Loch Lomond, and wonderful ballads, like Ed Sheeran’s I See Fire, or the very beautiful The Last Goodbye, by Billy Boyd. The Man with a Thousand Voices has lots more beautiful singing to show you! Thanks very much for trying this. Subbed, looking forward to more Dan.

Thanks so much for your great reaction to this marvelous Dan Vasc performance. He truly has one of the most versatile voices in music today. I hope you will consider listening to his cover of Bring Me to Life. He uses most of the tools in his vocal toolkit in this one and it is something to behold. As another person commented, Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar is another unbelievably amazing performance by Dan. Thanks again and I will be back for more Dan on your channel.
