Man, as a newbie to the world of fpv, I can't express how useful you've been. I can type in anything and you've made a video on it which answers my question every time. The fact you give this information out for free is commendable - especially when others shamelessly exploit beginners for information which is already available for free. Thank you Josh, you're a legend!!

Well, I thought I set up my GPS correctly, went out to test RTH today, sadly flew up way to high, seemed to yaw for a while, then disarmed. Luckily I was in a wide open space with no people or property around, but I didn't even hear my drone fall, no idea where it went, but before the VTX cut, I saw it fall. Make sure you read the wiki and check off every warning, or you'll lose your drone like me, gutted :(

It's interesting that the 'likes' are lower here than the rest of the series. I have a lot of quads with GPS because I'm not a racer and use my quads on trips in the mountains or interesting places (formally with crossfire and now with ELRS. ) In my planes I use INAV generally but I do have explorer quads with betaflight with GPS's without compass so this is a pretty interesting video for me. Although my favorite quads are my 5" fun flying (no GPS) screamers even though I'm no where near great at freestyle. This has been my favorite series from JB! As comprehensive as I could've ever wanted. I've learned something on every video so far!

There is a post from Chris Thompson where He says to set the Stage1 throttle a little bit higher than the hovering value so that quad starts gently climbing while entering in Stage1. And a good duration of Stage1 should be around 1.5 seconds. That is, if I well remember.

I would like to have a mix of Stage2 failsafe, have it auto level first and then fall off the sky, this way the odds of it landing upright are increased. I do not want it to check if it is leveled, just try to do it and fall off either way. Motor RPM could also be used to figure out if the quad got stuck somewhere but I think thats way too much, if you're failsafing then something is very wrong.
@gsegallis
@gsegallis Жыл бұрын
Hmmm... seems pretty trivial to measure the throttle required to (nearly) hover for whatever weight you happen to be flying. Then using a delay of 10 or 15 seconds, you now have some time to alter your TX position to see if you can regain the comm link. If not, the timer expires and it drops out of the sky like the "drop" mode you suggest. Why not give yourself a chance to recover signal before immediately dropping? Especially, if you happen to be flying over something like a lake at the time.

All those tutorials are great... Btw some of them I just downloaded as reference on the field Thanks Joshua ☺️. One thing I still not sure how it works... Yesterday I updated my quads to FrSky Access, using F.Port, and one of them was not working... (telemetry and commands from my RC)... Then I found out a bad contact in the receiver's connector with the cable (F.Port), after moving it a bit, worked perfectly, and no more problems. But, what if this happen again during the flight ? (I mean, The receiver and the RC are communicating but the Receiver and ESC aren't). Would the Failsafe be fired by the Throttle "inactivity" ??? (I know this video was released a long time ago, but perhaps is a good question, I did not find many topics about it on the Internet). Fly safe guys :)

Hi 👋 JB, great 👍 series I’m learning a lot. I mAde the mistake of buying a qx7 accst. Now I had to buy rxsr for my Darwin baby ape. So what would the values look like for failsafe 1 with the rxsr? Also I didn’t flash to the 4.3 because of the problem I had with rxsr. I was able to recover it in Frsky’s hidden DL page thanks to your video. So you mentioned bind and fly’s on your first video. That the developers might have pre sets. So in the back up file it basically just says 4.2.5 firmware. So if something goes wrong would all I have to do is reflash the old firmware?? Thanks again for all your YT content.

Ok they just need a toggle button that does all of this for you. Select your Flight Controller, select what size drone (3, 4 or 5inch) Then it automatically configures everything for you so you can start flying. Then if you want you can go back and adjust as you want. After flashing Betaflight 4.3 and seting everything up from scratch i went out to test the quad. After flying around i enabled the gps rescue switch,400 meters away and the quad behaved like stage 1 failsafe and dropped. Recovered and had a broken arm. I saw in betaflight that the failsafe switch was to stage 1 but i dont have failsafe switch enabled i have gps rescue so why did the quad fall down from the sky?? I have the Nazgul5 Evoque F6d HD version. Thank u

It reconnects and you will see RSSI go back and show connection, and then you move the sticks to take control. Once it reconnects, you have to deflect the sticks at least something like 20-25% I don't remember the exact number to take control again.

I am still a bit confused about how best to set up the failsafe aux mode switch in order to test that GPS rescue is functioning as it should. I did set up an aux mode on a momentary switch for failsafe and under the failsafe tab, I had the failsafe switch action set to Stage 1. Under the Channel Fallback Settings for that aux channel, I had in configured to set at 2000 as that is the value that activates the failsafe switch on the modes tab. When I tested this in the field the quad went into GPS rescue and flew back to my take-off location but I could not regain control of the quad and it ended up crashing. I'm thinking where I went wrong is that I should have set the Channel Fallback Settings for the aux channel that triggers failsafe to hold instead of set. Does this sound correct?
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 2 жыл бұрын
It's possible that your failsafe aux setting prevented the FC from leaving failsafe aux mode. I'm pretty sure the failsafe aux mode needs to be set to "hold" not "set" to work properly. If you go into GPS rescue and can't regain control, most likely it's because you did not deflect the sticks enough. Once link is re-established (or you release the failsafe aux switch) you must deflect the sticks at least, I think it is 25%, before the FC gives control back to you.
@MattBalder
@MattBalder 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell Great, thanks for confirming the use of "hold" instead of "set" for that aux channel, that does make sense. I was trying everything to regain control as the quad was drifting down. The only thing I didn't try was turning the radio off and on again.

JOSHUA - i am so ready to learn something today so help me out if you can. nobody ever could answer me this question about GPS Rescue Altitude mode@ 16:45min so we got: - MAX altitude - FIXED - CURRENT now here is the thing. i often fly over clouds just because i can where i live. and i have it on FIXED GPS rescue at 80m. i climb up to lets say 2000 meters. then i see my battery getting lower and i start to decent. at 1500 meter height a cloud is moving between me and my drone so i loose video signal. ! if i failsave with switch or crossfire signal loss - does that mean the quad will go down to 80 meters and then try to fly back? or does it mean it will ignore my set fixed altitude of 80m and try to go back up to 2000m because that was the highest point i fly, draining the battery to zero and quad will be lost? ! sometimes the quad drifts away due to strong winds up there and i am at the edge of a failsave. means i was tempted multiple times to switch on GPS rescue but never dare to do that because nobody could explain what will actually happen if the flown altitude is much higher then what i set before. i would love to hear that fixed altitude means the quad will go UP or DOWN whatever it takes to reach the height you set and THEN try to fly back to the home point. do you have any knowledge what will actually happen in this case? thanks alot for everything you do for our community. keep the blue side up° ☀🌌⛅🌈

I have a question regarding allow arming when fixed, what happens when you have not set this slider, so Betaflight does not arm without having a certain amount of satellites and then you fly, crash and disarm. In the new position satellite reception is not as good and you loose a couple of satellites so that the number you have is below the minimum amount. Will the quad then not arm again?

@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 2 жыл бұрын
If the quadcopter instantly flips over when you arm and raise the throttle with props on, it is almost 100% certain to be one of these things: 1. Clockwise prop installed on counter-clockwise spinning motor or vice versa. 2. Flight controller not facing forward. Go to the Setup tab in the configurator. Tilt the quadcopter on all axes (pitch, roll, yaw) with your hands. The 3D model in the configurator should move the same as you move it with your hand. If it does not, use the Board Alignment parameter in the Configuration tab to fix it. 3. Motors not wired correctly. TAKE OFF YOUR PROPS. Plug in a battery. Go to the Motors tab. Turn on the "props are off" slider in the lower-right. Raise the individual sliders (1, 2, 3, and 4) one at a time, just enough that the motor begins spinning. The motor positions (1, 2, 3, and 4) should match the graphic in the upper left. If they do not, then either move the signal wires so that they are correct or use resource reassignment to virtually "move" the motors. 4. Motor spinning wrong direction. Do the same as step 3 but compare the motor direction to the arrows on the graphic in the upper left. If a motor is spinning the wrong direction, either reverse it using BLHeli (or whatever ESC software you are using) or swap any two motor wires with each other, which will reverse the direction. Many times, people swear up and down they have checked all of these things, and then come back to say oops I missed one you were right. So if you think you have checked all of these things and your quad still FLIPS OUT, go back and check again. If your quad is insta-flipping on takeoff, it is almost always one of these things.
