Judy Collins joins Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops for a performance of her hit song "Both Sides Now." This concert at Boston's Symphony Hall was held in May 1976.
I have carried over many comments from previous postings of this video clip, which had over 186,000 viewings. The clip was recorded back in 1976 on a first generation Sony Betamax. Don't miss Judy's new, May 2020 re-release of her 1970 classic, "Amazing Grace," now with a world-wide Virtual Choir. Running on KZfaq and linked here: • Judy Collins & The Glo... If you like it, pass it along to your friends!

My God! I'm 50 years old, and I've heard this song my whole life. It's always been just a pleasant little tune to me. Today I'm really contemplating the lyrics for the first time, and I can't keep it together. Joni Mitchell is a poetic genius!

I’m 54 and never ever ever knew these lyrics. Yes I knew the song but never listened nor understood the lyrics until I saw it sung and signed in the movie CODA. I am mesmerized by the talent of JM , the rendition here of JC and the exquisite moving voice of Emilia Jones. In coda

I first saw and heard Judy around 1963 when I was 14 years-old. She and Tom Paxton I think it was, were making their rounds on Cape Cod, (and Massachusetts) at that time. They put on a nice little show at the old National Guard Armory, (which is now a court house) on Jones Road in Falmouth, Ma. Judy was absolutely fabulous that night! I can still see her on that little stage wearing a white dress and high heels. She had the most beautiful, big blue eyes I have ever witnessed. I've been a huge fan of hers all these years and my favorite song sung by her is, "Both Sides Now".

"Both Sides Now" Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all

This is amazing! First she gives melody (well most of it), and then she harmonizes around the melody, giving it a feel of improvisation. All the while, doing some really interesting things with the phrasing. This takes not only solid musicianship, but also sharp mental focus to keep it all together.

I grew up in the 50's and early 60's. While other kids were listening to rock and roll, I was buying folk song records from Seeger, Bikel, Baez, Collins, and many others. I guess that was why I became a member of the SDS in college. I protested the Vietnam War every chance I got. Then in late 1969, I was drafted into the marines. Fortunately I was spared most combat. In my book Judy Collins is the only female folk singer who can be considered in the same class as the late, great Mary Travers. I just love the way she sings and that voice is just as clear as a bell.

Don't get me wrong, George. I'm also a Joni Mitchel fan. It's just that I think that Mary Travers and Judy Collins are a cut above.

Don't get me wrong. I Love Judy, Joni, Joan, and Mary, but you can add a few like Melanie Safka, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris. I am sure I left some, I will remember later.

In 1981 I went to a Spyro Gyra concert at Chicagofest. Judy Collins was the act before Spyro. I had never heard of her. She came on, sat behind her piano, and put on a SPECTACULAR, relaxed, show. What pianist! What a voice! Great band! Judy blew my mind, and I never did drugs, ha! I fell in love. 39 years later, I am still in love with you, Judy!

It is maddening when an artist takes a fantastic song and decides to make it "better" Like holding a note a little longer than the original or changing a natural to a flat. My Dad's words: "If it aint broke, don't fix it"

Maria Cisneros Toth 1 year ago In 1970, I had a hip twenty-something 7th grade english teacher. One day Miss Taylor handed out a poem for us to read as a class. Then she put on a record and it was Judy Collin's "Both Sides Now." It was the day I fell in love with poetry....

Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Yo have always been a favorite since my parents bought me a 45 of Chelsea Morning and Amazin Grace. I loved it when you sang Amazing Grace for the late Gloria Vanderbilt. I had a wonderful cleansing cry. God Bless you. I also have read a few of your books. You are an awesome lady with a God given talent. From a proud Canadian. 🙏🇨🇦🌈🦋🌹
