I think I'm on my third or fourth rewatch of this series and I still love this. The game doesn't feel like it gets old especially when you watch Becca, Jay, Xander, and James act out as all of the characters. No wonder this is my favorite game they played on Game The Game

So there's a lot of misunderstanding going on in the comments about how a legacy game works I think. Trust me, I get destroying pieces is like a sin against gaming, BUT legacy games feel so right to do it. With this game specifically (I've already finished it with my gaming squad) it almost needs to happen, there are so many components and some cards permanently become upgraded so if you keep everything it gets watered down and almost impossible to play in free play mode (which is fantastic post campaign btw). You end up with more cards than the original game even after destroying cards and components. Plus marking the board and cards makes them unique and punishing at time. The best part of all this though is by the end you have a real story with your main group and you can share that with other players with how unique the game is now. If you don't like the idea, I highly recommend the classic version as the legacy version will only work as a campaign if you keep all elements and anyone who has played a campaign multiple times over will tell you he element of surprise is the best part and if that's gone it's super tedious. Hope this helps. If people have questions about the game or other legacy games (I've played a lot) I'm more than happy o give recommendations or answer questions

@ValleyChildX

DarkBunnyLord I get that point too, BUT there isn't a big change between one group and another which means the person who plays thru the scenario a second time has a huge advantage in terms of knowing where to go first and what to do while everyone else is being surprised. Very fun in freeplay mode like I said before but scenario a second time really feels almost like cheating. Plus like I said the 50 scenarios in freeplay are really good and slightly custom based on the way you left the board.
@DarkBunnyLord
@DarkBunnyLord 5 жыл бұрын
Anthony Sanchez Mind you in gojng only off what I see in the video but is freeplay like the original? And if so do the permanent changes made by “legacy” play (stickers, marking cards, destroying cards permanently) greatly effect that mode?
@ValleyChildX
@ValleyChildX 5 жыл бұрын
DarkBunnyLord it's exactly like the original just new missions and better defined rules so there's not as much confusion. And the only thing the legacy element changes about freeplay is there's a custom feel to it, no story based element involved that makes it so if you didn't play the campaign you'll feel left out, just a reason to play everyone's copy. Example: My copy has a badass scythe thing that adds two dice to a melee roll, my friends only adds one, but then I have a crossbow that adds one dice, and my friends add one and can hit anything in a straight line not just adjacent rooms.

For everyone who is watching this and thinking "Destroy parts of the game?!? Why would I do that, I spent money on this game!" Here's the thing, in some ways, you are buying an unfinished game. But are given everything you need to make a custom game. You are also given a number (a specific number, but why spoil things here?) of games in which to organically customize the game. The bits you destroy, they will not be apart of your finalized game, so you don't need to keep them (you can, if for nothing more than mementos of the games leading up to the finished product). This also addresses the situation of certain Legacy games like the Pandemic Legacy Seasons 1 and 2, once you finish the campaign... you're done... nothing more to do. But with Betrayal Legacy? You have a fully customized game that you can play, sure some of the scenarios are forever lost to you (a few are campaign *only*), but your copy of the game will not be like anyone else's... ever.

To anyone whining about a Legacy game being played like a Legacy game, check the store page in the description: "Once the campaign is complete, you’ll be left with a fully re-playable, customized board game." Here you go, stop whining now. It's a classic game AND a legacy game. So NO reason to pass on it if you are interested. You'll end up with a replayable and UNIQUE gameboard.
@ZoidbergForPresident
@ZoidbergForPresident 5 жыл бұрын
@Halberdier You DO NOT replay a legacy game, that is the WHOLE POINT! Whining about legacy game not being replayable the same way is like whining about the The Sixth Sense movie not being watchable the same way twice: that... is... the whole... point! You don't like that? Then why not try one of the thousands of new boardgames released each year! Darn, what's wrong with some people! :D
@57thorns
@57thorns 5 жыл бұрын
One way to look at legacy games is that the campaign is a very long setup. If well designed, you will then have a unique version of the game that is subtly different from all other versions of the same game, giving you an advantage to everyone you play with (which, thinking of it, is not a good thing).r Another argument in favour of legacy games are that you generally do not play a game that many times, but that argument is weak as you also can't really sell a legacy game you did not enjoy. As with the initial "add a secret exit" card, you could just add hidden exits to three random tiles before playing. But in general, I am not too fond of legacy games, but that could be because I played World in Flames, which is one of those 100+ hour games that require you to have the same group of people meet many times to play the same game and I did not enjoy it that much. Also, my situation now is that I play games at a club (association?) so I generally do not play with the exact same group each time, so legacy games are not really possible. In my opinion, legacy games are a marketing gimmick, and a way to ensure more sales. There are after all games we played more than 100 hours without them being a single campaign, just from the number of times we played it.

@HalberdierWhat about chilling out and just getting the base version? There's even an extension. Dude, you have the right to not like it, but don't force other to spit on the concept too. Some may find it refreshing, and absolutely not money grabbing, boardgames are one of the most "bang for your buck" ever... what about throwing some more money towards game designers? Games are not there to look pretty on your ikea stuff, it's there to be played, and I'll encourage anything that encourages that.

So I have a few questions that aren't answered in the top comments.i've watched the 1st hour and don't want to continue due to spoilers.Firstly the markers you are using u said they are permanent,does this mean that the hero portraits with names are expendable?Secondly the cards that are destroyed are only a scenario out of many in the game?lastly since you have already played the game "betrayal at the house on the hill" do you find that a must buy for someone who hasn't finished all the scenarios in the original version?
@scotchbox
@scotchbox 3 жыл бұрын
This was a year ago but: Many, many cards are destroyed as you play the game, but not the boards of the family crests. And I'd say yes it is a must play for fans of the game: if you are, you're probably also into the horror narrative idea, which this dollops on in spades and with more mystery than you could hope for. I can't say more without spoiling it. Plus at the end you've got a fully customised version of Betrayal; a house filled with memories. Also all the haunts are new. To put the destruction in context: When you are done, you will still have more cards than the original game.

During Chapter 1 you go back to "basic" rules where you aren't obstacles to each other... that was only for the Haunt in the Prologue. Instead of DRINKing from the bucket he should have used his Well-to-do and bury it to gain 2 in a trait. The card said to draw the TOP Item card... not the card that matches the space. Anytime you draw a card your movement ends. After getting the claw hammer the attack shouldn't have happened. If he rolls high enough on the trap it can kill the berserker. He should have ended his turn next to the creek.

I'm also not at ease detroying a game like this considering its price 0.0 Except for the scratch cards, I think it can be easily avoided. If I buy it, I would put all stickers on cardboard to make tokens and use note sheets to keep track of updates, check-box on cards, characters. And for destroyed cards I would just put them away in the box and note them in case I want to reuse them in a later classic game or with another group. There are some twists on cool items and I would not want to lose them forever and finish with something that is too similar to the first game in the end...

Spoiler: 2:16:00 Xander misplayed so badly... a) traitors are not slowed by obstacles.. b) rather than going through all the traps Scooby-Doo style.. he could have just walked down the stairs instead and not return the runes to James, and James would be out of traps and stuck outside against a raging double striking berserker.... Oh well, but to be fair both Jay and Becca were in terrible spots during the haunt reveal...

James also played pretty badly at the end too. He cut off Xander at the end of his turn (after going through the obstacle) so that he forgot to roll to see if the berserker damages himself. He also kept placing his traps nonadjacent to himself which could have easily damaged the berserker with his high knowledge stat.

depends on the players you play with. I play betrayal with some of my friends, who have patience, are quick learners, and are willing to think. When the girl first landed on "The Hanging Tree" tile she drew the omen card and started the haunt. On that tile, there is an embeded ghost token on that tile. So she should have rolled to take the -1 sanity. They thought, since it didn't have the sticker, that it wasn't there. She would most likely have died there. Made a mistake that could have drastically changed the game early on.
