The immortal First Lady of the American Screen herself, Miss Bette Davis, headlines this crackerjack episode of General Electric Theater about an aspiring author who is determined not to let a high-minded professor crush her dreams..no matter to what lengths she must go to stop him.
Originally broadcast on March 10th, 1957, With Malice Toward One was written for television by Hagar Wilde from a story by Vivian Fletcher and helmed by Golden Age TV director Jules Bricken.
I was blessed by an eBay collector who provided me with this footage in 2006 and am forever thankful to be able to share it with my fellow Bette Davis fans! Please note, though, that the opening credits and Ronald Reagans G.E. Theater introduction were not featured on this tape. Although Miss Davis has indicated that she was less than full satisfied with this work, fans should relish yet another missing link in her vast catalogue of performances!
VIVA LA BETTE!

E With Bette about 50 here and starring roles in feature films drying up, this great actress had no problem turning to tv and knocking it out of the park, when other stars thought tv was too big comedown from the big screen...Bette was all about the work...and good on her!

You go Bette. She was underestimating herself or being modest. As always- a brilliant performance in my opinion. But then again, I’m a huge fan. There most likely will never be a voice like hers again. I could listen to her forever.

"I'm an actress. Not very well known, but very good" It's hard to believe that Bette didn't like this one: Wittty story, and she's simply terrific!!!

Goliath sparrow I feel that way every day. My doctor says no more sausage rolls, and salad is just so blah to look forward too.

“He took the work I loved and threw it in my face like a piece of trash. So I shot him. It was just as simple as that.” As Bette as it gets.

Leave it to Bette! If any professor really professed in that boorish, pompous way - and many do, no doubt - I wouldn't blame any gun-totin' mamas or papas from doing him in. Let's see the next chapter now.

"eccentric" and "peculiar" were ways people described gay men at the time, even if they didn't quite realize who they were describing.

Albeit I enjoy Miss Davis work, at this time of her career, her mannerisms began to be very phony and annoying, making her look a parody of herself.
