This song is her. Others will sing this classic song, but this song is Ms Divine M song. She is the best singer for this one.

This is beautiful but for me it's the Kelly Family song. They always performed it with so many emotions, especially in earlier years, and they still do.

Look at that crowd! I saw her in concert. Acouple of yrs after the movie The Rose. I still remember her sense of humor, her in mermaid outfits in wheelchairs with her girls wheeling around. She was grand. This song is Midlers song. She owns it.

I love you miss Divine. To me you'll always be the original G. You were my first concert at Red Rocks in Colorado when I was 8 years old. I'm now 49. You've been in my life always. Thank you for always being there. God Bless your beautiful Soul.

Bette has the most angelic emotional voice I have ever heard, she is so calming to listen to, I love how she shows so much feeling when she sings, no one can show their feelings like her.

Then you’ve likely missed a lot. Annie Lennox, Christine McVie, Kate Bush, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Adele just to name a few. And those are the women, too many men to list.

@@sneat2028 I still love her voice better than anyone else, I have been around music all my life & she has more emotions in her voice than anyone

@@sneat2028 I know their are others, I have heard some others too, but Bette is still my all time favorite of this song & her other huge hit, " Wind beneath my wings" no one can sing these 2 like her, you have to put on headphones & hear her tone in her voice, it is gorgeous

@@ilovemovies725 you nailed this comment, yes you are 1000% correct, Bette can pull emotions out of you better than anyone can, she is the first singer that has ever brought me to tears, when I first heard her sing " The Rose" from the movie, tears rolled down my face, it takes real emotions to do that, & she has the most raw emotions I have ever witnessed, she has a lot of hurt that comes out of her

Such a beautiful song towards addiction, it’s a horrible disease and illness. Hold your hand to the one next to you, remind them that love is what matters. Don’t ever let them go ❤️Because they are the rose

Here’s a fact, originally The Rose was a pop song Amanda McBroom wrote it. The song did not become popular until Bette Midler sang it for the film The Rose which came out in 1979.

Some say love, it is a river That drowns the tender reed Some say love, it is a razor That leaves your soul to bleed Some say love, it is a hunger An endless aching need I say love, it is a flower And you, its only seed It's the heart, afraid of breaking That never learns to dance It's the dream, afraid of waking That never takes the chance It's the one who won't be taken Who cannot seem to give And the soul, afraid of dying That never learns to live When the night has been too lonely And the road has been too long And you think that love is only For the lucky and the strong Just remember in the winter Far beneath the bitter snows Lies the seed that with the sun's love In the spring becomes the rose

Some say love it is a river That drowns the tender reed Some say love it is a razor That leaves your soul to bleed Some say love it is a hunger An endless aching need I say love it is a flower And you it's only seed It's the heart afraid of breaking That never learns to dance It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance It's the one who won't be taken Who cannot seem to give And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live When the night has been too lonely And the road has been too long And you think that love is only For the lucky and the strong Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows Lies the seed That with the sun's love In the spring Becomes the rose

Last I heard this song was back in the early 70s. Never knew who sung it until I saw it playing on TikTok. A lady's dog passed away from breast cancer and she had this song playing but I've edit this comment three times and Janis Joplin is the original singer.
