Ernesto was done dirty, and it doesn't get talked about nearly enough. Chuck purposefully lets him hear the tape, then tortures him with vague threats of "consequences" despite knowing that Ernesto will try to warn Jimmy- his plan in fact DEPENDS on Ernesto doing this. Then Chuck FIRES Ernesto for doing exactly what he manipulated him into doing! It wasn't even necessary- I'm sure there was another way to let slip to Jimmy that he had a tape. He just HATED Ernesto for lying on Jimmy's behalf, saying that he called Jimmy when Jimmy turned up at the copy shop after his fall. Poor Ernesto.

@@mannybatista925 Yes, he was horribly condescending to Ernesto despite Ernesto genuinely trying to do a good job. And once he lied for Jimmy his well being was completely irrelevant to Chuck. He FIRED him for something that was part of Chuck's OWN plan. Simply awful. I'm sure he justified it by thinking Ernesto deserved to be fired for that lie anyway.

Episode 309 is the only episode of any series that I've watched that made me almost cry because I absolutely hate it when old people are being lied to and seeing Irene's friends leaving her and Irene having to sit alone at Bingo and no one applauding her winning. It was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. I mean just seeing the scene where she runs out the Bingo hall makes my eyes tear up.

I genuinely couldn’t watch it and just skipped past it or to whenever the charade was up in the episode I can’t remember if they were in the same episode haven’t made it that far in the video to confirm but yeah someone having something horrible happen to them for reasons they can’t understand but would break their heart if it did is tragic to watch tragic to see tragic to experience I didn’t enjoy it and it was one of my least favorite moments regarding Jimmy but I suppose that because I didn’t watch most of those scenes where he ruins her reputation for the money and his eventual comeuppance from the whole situation while heartbreaking because he genuinely enjoyed working with elders, he deserved the shit he got. Anyway back to whayevrr hanging thread I said, I suppose since I didn’t watch it all it didn’t affect my view of Jimmys character too poorly despite the fact that it should have

"You hurt people over and over" How many times in this show was Chuck describing himself when he is trying to describe Jimmy. Chicanery has the absolute best callback with Jimmy asking if Chuck would hide his lung cancer from his wife. I've always felt that not only did Chuck's final relapse when he trashes his house, was more than just a "relapse" or "problems with his medication" as Michael McKean himself describes in the commentary for this eposode. I feel that some of this was outbursts of anger. Anger at himself, anger at Jimmy, the HHM outcome ect, all came to a head, and he begin to self sabotage because even though he tried to be a "Slippin' Chucky", so to speak in several ways, it all backfired on him, furthering his hatred for Jimmy because he has gotten away with so much, so many times, for so long.

I love the air force Captain scene. It just makes me think about the bigger scope of breaking bad and better call Saul. The captain knew, just like chuck Lover of the law, that the wheels of justice always turns. And that's scary for Saul and Kim
@j-rey-

I agree. When it first aired, the guy really intimidated me, and I thought more would come from it, that Jimmy would actually face legal repercussions for getting onto the base on false pretenses. Then, when it was never brought up again, I kinda thought back on it and was disappointed. But after season 6A, and what happened in the finale, I immediately thought back to that scene, and how the captain was right all along. I knew he was right, given what happens in breaking bad, but it really hit home during the final scene of 6A. Not "justice," per se, but consequences.

it reminded me of some youtuber on BCS who lauded the scene. For him it was about the dude being the anti-Saul, basically. He's incorruptible, a straight arrow who holds jimmy's feet to the proverbial fire. It's something that doesn't happen often in his shady world, it only happens in manipulative circumstances (like with Chuck and his big ego). Why do people complain about the scene where Mike takes his car apart to find the tracker? It's a great character moment. It's meant to show how smart and thorough to the point of obsession Mike is. Also if you juxtapose that scene with the one where Jimmy glues the shredded documents from last season it shows how Mike and Jimmy have some similarities in their dedication once they decide to do something.

It really amazed me when he said that people generally didn't like that montage. I have always really enjoyed that whole thing as well as the tracker spy stuff with Mike. I found that all fascinating. I also seen once where some of the creators, who use 3d printers... created those hand held tracking devices. As this was supposed to be set before smart phones. But they had to find a way to show someone being GPS tracked in real time. BB and BCS have some amazing creators and set engineers.

Kiwi, this was amazing. Thank you soo much for this gem of a video you drop on us right before the start of 6B. Thank you for touching on the Nacho cold open of S3E6, I thought you were going to skip it because you didn’t start the recap of that episode with it but you went back to it. I will never forget watching that cold open when it first aired, I was still blown away by how amazing Chicanery was the week before and how they would follow it up. That Nacho cold open made me realize that BCS is in fact an elite level show that is destined to become one of the greatest shows ever, idk why that cold open resonated soo much to me at that time but the feeling it gave me proved to be right. Also, to me, it felt like that was the true beginning of Nacho’s story arc for the remainder of the series, it was as if with Chuck’s outburst the episode prior was his story’s end, and Nacho’s disassociate silence was his story’s beginning.

I know everyone loves Chicanery, as do I, but for me, Witness is the best (or at least my favorite) episode of the season. The entire sequence with Jimmy at Los Pollos Hermanos is flawless from start to finish, one of my favorite scenes of the entire show and something I could watch on an endless loop… which I did. Seriously, it’s one of those scenes where you see something new every time you watch it, so give that a shot and see what you find. After doing that, then try watching it a few more times over, but do it with your eyes closed so you can just listen. Great ASMR aside, it makes you completely forget you’re watching a TV show, and instead convinces you that you are just seeing/hearing/experiencing the real world go by, and it’s incredible. No joke, pure magic. And then we have Mike, starring in the latest episode of MacGyver, and I am absolutely here for it. I really don’t understand why so many people take issue with all of the “MacGyver Mike” scenes/sequences -- similar to Jimmy’s schemes, they are all fantastic, highly entertaining and one of my personal favorite aspects of the show. There’s nothing quite like witnessing that level of ingenuity and creativity on full display as a clever little plan comes to fruition. Those are the big ones, and there’s obviously a lot more in the episode to talk about, but you’ve seen the show, you get it. I don’t have a Top 10 BCS episodes list or anything, but if I did, I’m pretty sure Witness would make the cut--it’s no coincidence I started pushing the idea of BCS ultimately eclipsing BB as the superior show way back around Season 3.

Notice also that in episode 7, Kim asks Jimmy if he’s maxing out his credit cards and Jimmy says “no”. Then, when Jimmy is telling Kim about how he plans to con the rich jerk, he says he’s going to trick the man into buying a $4000 worthless credit card. This implies that he lied to Kim and that he really did max out his credit card. Man, I love that the show’s creators trust us enough to figure this out based on these hints as opposed to outright telling us. This show is God-tier.

I love this recap series, and I love the insight. One complaint I have though is how sometimes you describe a scene and then proceed to play it. For brevity, I think it should just be one or the other, maybe if you show the scene you could lead in to it.

The S4 superlab story is one your least favorite? What?!? That’s the Werner story, which is up there as one of the most heartbreaking in the whole show.

I know right, thats literally the episode where mike loses most of what's left of his humanity and becomes little better than heisenberg. And before people @ me by saying Miike genuinely was doing it for his family NO. If he was doing it for his family, he would have told hank everything so he wouldnt take Kaylee's $2 million. And yes Hank is allowed to BS mike, but with that deal in mind, Mike could have used a lawyer to negotiate the deal into reality. He clearly was not necessarily a fan of criminals as he had been a cop in the past, and frequently expressed disdain for how the salamancas and gus operate. He does what he does because he has the same romanticised notions walt does. "Im doing this for my family. Im a good criminal." And werner's arc is really what seals the deal on this. Just as walt is willing to kill clueless people whom are barely in the game (Gale) mike will fully obey gus in executing a clueless man whom is barely in the game (Werner).

@@mappingshaman5280 Agree 100%. I also love the arc of Mike having some independence from Gus and thinking he calls the shots about what he will and won’t do. But then he screwed up the Werner situation so bad, he’s under Gus’s thumb for good after that. To me, all this is the superlab story…it’s not like they spent endless hours showing it being built…it’s the human drama around it.

@@mappingshaman5280 same with Walter. It absolutely pisses me off when people try to say “Walter wasn’t a bad guy, he was doing it for his family” BITCH HE POISONED A CHILD AND BOMBED A RETIREMENT HOME. He even admits he did it because he liked it, yet there’s morons trying to convince that he wasn’t a bad guy

Can't wait to see the tier list for the remaining seasons. Like you, I've gravitated towards Gordon Smiths episodes. Five-O, Gloves Off, Chicanery.. Will be cool to see where Bagman, Rock and Hard Place and tonight's episode Point and Shoot will end up. A bit disappointed he isn't directing it, but Gilligan is like he did with Smith's Bagman episode so that's the next best thing for me. My second favorite writer of the series is Thomas Schnauz' episodes, but I liked his directing as much as Smiths'.

It's so interesting how much of a villain Chuck is to you. I mean, don't get me wrong, Chuck's a bastard, but I definitely sympathize with him more than you do. That's the great thing about BB and BCS. How gray all the characters are and how much the audience connects with different aspects of the characters Also, you misspelled "lantern"

I have a fact for you from the blu ray commentary, the DMV/MVD thing was a cover for the creators having saul reference the DMV in Breaking Bad, but they didn't realize that in some states, including New Mexico, it's called the MVD. They literally wrote that part of the scene to cover their mistake and explain why Saul in BB refers to it as the DMV. I thought that was funny when they said that in the commentary.
