You're nuts for putting Coushatta as a C tier. In the grand scheme of things, it's like the beginning of Act 3 of the series with the introduction of Lalo. Plus the scam to get Huell out of trouble is among the best of the entire series. For me, that episode is a dark horse S tier. It's fun, entertaining and important!

Season 4 gets way too much hate imo. Yeah, the first four episodes arent spectacular, but they each have their moments. Episodes 405-410 are all amazing for me

As an engineer I loved 405. The two engineers explaining their different mindsets and using different tools was always one of the favorite underrated scenes. Other than that episode I agree with your tierlist

I think the scene where Kim sees all of those planned banks by Kevin is actually not just about the amount of work. I'm sure that's part of it, but I also think it's about the work being specifically unfulfilling to her. I think that's the moment she felt like "So this is going to be my life's work, huh? Helping to build some banks?" when in effect she wants to truly help people. That's why an episode or two later she actually goes to get pro bono cases. Because she realized that she didn't want to spend all of her time on the Mesa Verda stuff because it felt empty and vapid for her.

This season is so underrated. As good as Season 3 IMO, it’s definitely slower but it’s has some of the best and most subtle writing of the show. Best Jimmy arc and best build up with the best finale ep. Especially with context of the final season I appreciated this season more. Also how the hell did you find the Coushatta scheme to be forgettable? I’m 99% sure that’s one of the most praised schemes on the show by most people

I know you said several times that Werner's obliviousness seemed unrealistic to you, but trust me that level of social obliviousness is very plausible for an engineer.

This season, in conjunction with the finale, really cast Chuck and his relationship with Jimmy in a new light. Say what to want about him, but even though he was a huge contributing factor in Saul being Saul, it was ultimately Jimmy refusing to take responsibility for Chuck and the fact his schemes led to his death that made him who he was. So in the end, Chuck was not Crazy. He knew Jimmy swapped those numbers. He knew it was 1216. One after Magna Carta! As if he could ever make such a mistake! NEVER! Never! He just...he couldn't prove it! Jimmy covered his tracks, he got that idiot at the copy shop to lie for him. You think that was bad? That? That Chicanery? Jimmy has done worse! That billboard, do you think a man just happens to fall like that? He Orchestrated it! Jimmy! He DEFECATED through a SUN ROOF! And Chuck saved him? And he shouldn't have! He took Jimmy into his own firm! What was he thinking? Jimmy will never change, he'll NEVER CHANGE! Ever since he was nine, always with his hand in the cash drawer! But not their Jimmy! Cool to see a retrospective video regarding Better Call Saul’s Fourth Season. I’ve always enjoyed this season. Seeing how Jimmy internalizes his guilt and putting a facade on was a great way to show how he’s getting closer to becoming the Saul Goodman we know from Breaking Bad. Keep up the great work man!

11:37 - I absolutely LOVE this scene where Jimmy almost instantly gets a job and then goes off and rejects it. It's ambiguous, obviously, but to me I interpret that as the following: Jimmy is repressing his guilt about Chuck's death but it's still there underneath. Jimmy just chooses not to deal with it. However, when he does his spiel in front of them he feels like he has just tricked them. If he tricked them then that means he's a trickster, a con man. Just as Chuck always said he was. In other words, he feels like he's confirming that the way Chuck saw him (as a con man who would never change and always hurt people) was correct. If he has to admit that Chuck was right about him, and didn't hate him for irrational reasons, then he has to admit to himself that maybe his brother would have loved him if he'd acted better. In other words, that not only is Chuck's death his fault but Chuck didn't deserve it either. That gives him too much guilt. Because he feels that much guilt, he gets angry at those people and tells them off as a way of letting out his pain and also of proving Chuck's idea of him wrong. However, he continues to feel angry at them at the same time. And so he decides just "Fuck them, they're terrible" and to get back at them by robbing them. Don't get me wrong, do I think Jimmy consciously realizes all of this? No, not at all. I think the moment he talked them into giving him a job he just felt inexplicable guilt boiling up inside of him which made him angry and feel bad. But even after he told them off he still felt angry and thus thought "Fuck those guys, I'm getting back at them by robbing them

My favorite season, and so many underrated episodes here. Shocked that any merited a C tier. I’ve watched this season at least 10 times, and it only gets more and more tragic to me with the knowledge of what happens afterward.

Lalo is, far and above, the best antagonist from the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe. Also, it was genius how they played with the sentence, "The winner takes it all".

Idk why you don’t like the super lab arc, I loved it. For some reason, the way they wrote and shot scenes that have to do with the super lab are weirdly eerie and somber, which I love.

Something stupid is an S tier for me, literally a collection of amazing scenes showing the show's creativity and heart at its best. Almost a 10/10, barely not SS for me. 4x10 is easily SS though. Season 4 is the first amazing season imo

so in the end, lalo actually planted the seed that brought gus to his demise, which was way more "lalo" like than the way lalo went down. i wonder if the writers meant that.

I interpreted the jimmy being aggressively unphased by chucks death as him just surpressing his emotions and putting on a tough guy show for everyone else bc he didn't want to face his own guilt and it's shown in later episodes esp the finale it actually affected him deeply I think kim knew that and was extremely frustrated with jimmy not dealing with his grief and spiraling more into criminality due to that

Season 4 is probably my least favorite(Not that it's bad mind you) but Winner is easily one of my favorite episodes of the show. That speech he gives to the girl is probably my favorite scene from Bob Odenkirk. It's just dripping his subtext.

Kiwi's thoughts and analysis on episode rankings usually mirror my own, but I must disagree on Coushatta as I absolutely adored that episode! The letter writing campaign scam was such a fun a plot; it carried weight and suspense simply because of the volume of mail fraud, and the scene with the cell phones and the Louisiana impersonations was absolutely hilarious! Add the Lalo introduction to the finish and it gets at least an "A tier" from me. Either way, thanks for all the videos you do Kiwi! Your Better Call Saul content continues to be must watch for any diehard fan of the show.

52:01 - Personally, I think there's another reason why Jimmy gives Rich a hard time. I think Jimmy feels very out of place in that place. I think the context reminds him of Chuck and the rejection of him by people like Chuck and Rich and other people in that successful lawyer world. I think this is also reflect in Jimmy's speech in "Winner" to the Esposito girl. He just has a general problem with these successful corporate lawyer types because of how much they remind him of Chuck and his own rejection.

You are clinically insane Kiwi. Coushatta is easily S if not SS. Easily the best ep. of the season. Every scene... NO, every line of dialogue, every camera shot, every single moment (outside of Werner's naivete) PFM.

Wordless scenes of Mike doing projects are absolutely priceless.

4x08 at C tier is just a crime, that episode is really important, Lalo's introduction, Kim realizing how much she enjoys doing schemes with Jimmy (or not realizing but giving into it) and doing one of the best in the entire series. It also shows that they get off at doing that, immediatly after Ericsen gave up they kissed and went home to do it, and in the climax of the show (6x07) Howard mentioned that as one of the main factors on why they keep doing that together.

Season 4 to me isn't quite as good as season 3 but Winner is easily top 10 episodes of BCS and top 20 of the BB universe it perfectly ties up Werner's character, shows the aftermath of Chuck's death, sets up the arc of the most terrifying villain in both shows, and of course gives birth to Saul Goodman and his entrance into being the guilty people's lawyer. Of the season finales of both shows I would only rank it behind Lantern (BCS Season 3,) Face Off (BB Season 4,) and Felnia (BB Season 5 )

I've casually replayed season 6 over and over a few times just to "hang on" to the show a bit longer. I am now sort of going in reverse. I've re-watched season 5 now and I am on to season 4. Thanks Kiwi. Your videos have made me want to go back. 👍👍 I think after I've finished the re-watch for S04, I may jump back to S01 and go from there leading to S03. Going backwards is a bit strange. 😆

With all due respect, it was _not_ "unreasonable" or "unfair" for Gus and Michael not to let Werner see his wife. Werner signed up for a job that was veiled in secrecy -- he knew that when he was driven to the initial interview blindfolded, and knowing Gus and Mike, was warned about the job being confidential from the beginning. Having a wife circling around increases the odds of the lab construction project being found out. That said, I appreciate the comprehensive recap!

I don't consider season 4 my favorite, but watching this recap, you make a strong case.

I only watched the tail ending of the video at the moment (having a career teaching college students and the Fall semester starting up again next week means I sadly can't watch the full video at the moment). However, based on the little I saw I agree with you for the most part. A lot of the main plot points could've been executed better, and even some of the timelines were a bit confusing, as I didn't think initially that Chuck died so soon after Jimmy's suspension (although, I could be wrong). I think the only episodes I feel should've been higher are "Expenses" (307) and "Quite A Ride" (405). "Expenses" is one of my favorite episodes in the series. Watching Jimmy's financial downfall and how that affects him definitely is the seed that leads to what he did to Chuck, which is a huge factor in what leads him to become Saul Goodman. Plus, Bob Odenkirk was nominated for an Emmy for this episode as his acting is phenomenal. For me, it's either an "A" or an "S" tier. Whereas "Quite A Ride" has so much hidden symbolism and context clues throughout the episode that affects a lot of what occurred in season 6. I watched it multiple times on its own for context clues for the two years prior to season 6, and it led me to a lot of my leading theories on what'll happen (most of which were right- except for the card he hands Francesca in the BB flash-forward as we never come back to it, and Howard Hamlin's death as I focused on the wrong details in that beautiful scene). For me, it's an "A" tier episode. That's my take anyhow. However, if I agree for 38/40 episodes then you've definitely nailed it as that's a 95% accuracy rate (again, at least for me). I look forward to watching this in full in the next week or so to see what new insights I may develop and I'll likely recomment then!

I actually really like season 4. I agree that the superlab arc isn't my favourite, but I will say that I think the pay-off kind of makes the build-up worth it to me. And personally I absolutely love Jimmy's arc in this season. I think it's important though to read it in context. Which is that: Yes, Jimmy doesn't talk about Chuck a lot here. But almost every action he takes in this season is driven indirectly by Chuck. People often talk about Jimmy compartimentalizing and repressing his feelings for Chuck. And certainly he does. But I also think people often overplay that as if Jimmy just repressed his feelings about Chuck at the beginning of the season and that was it. When I think it's actually the case that subconsciously Chuck hangs over this entire season for Jimmy. This entire season is really about Jimmy dealing with Chuck's death. And it's only at the very, very end when he completes that journey. He cries about feeling like his brother didn't love him and about feeling like he killed him. But then finally he decides to take the final step away from those feelings, harden himself and take on the name Saul Goodman and just accept that he will always hurt everyone in his life and that he's Slippin' Jimmy and will always be (just as Chuck told him). In other words, this entire season illustrates how the true genesis of "Saul Goodman" is in Chuck's death. Now, spoiler alert for season 6, but Kim leaving him IS the last thing that pushes him over the edge, don't get me wrong. But it was Chuck's death which walked him right up to that edge. Chuck's death put him on the road, even if Kim leaving is what allowed him to drive the final mile.

I think it's really easy to see Howard in a sympathetic light after the events of season 6, but I really don't think that Kim was in the wrong for what she said to him.

THE PIANO SONG!!! Did you guys get the easter egg? The notes had his ex wife rebeccas name on it. And when he plays it first he strokes her name as he sits it down on the stand! I only noticed because I wanted to get the name of the song to look up the notes. lIt is a composition for flute and piano on paper, but in the funeral scene we her a violin play along with the piano. So I feel like it is strongly implied they used to play it together and he is practicing it to feel closer to her or maybe even hoping they will play together again some day.

werner and his wife used a codeword on te phone cause they know people listen in and speak german too so he talks about vacations in "baden baden" a town in germany but the word "baden" means taking a bath so it's a code for the hot springs hotel with the pool and mike gets that when his men tell him on the phone!
