It's really a shame that they deleted this scene because this is a real life history lesson. Love this show and all the guys on it. They play off each other so well. Great chemistry.

What an extraordinary story. Henry Winkler's family experienced a horrific ordeal. I wish they would have shown us the rest of the show with him looking thru Berlin.

Wish someone would please post this entire episode. I cried like a baby when they found Henry's parents' old house site.

Henry's parents were very abusive towards him (as he's talked about in the past), and it's interesting that he's decided at this point to respect them. You gotta do what you gotta do. And who knows what that is but we try.

Why did they delete this? It is such a profound story about life - entire lifetimes changing for a single minor decision. His uncle waiting a day for his jacket and dying in a concentration camp as a result. Oh my goodness.

Would be nice if y'all captioned the deleted scenes (or anything else) or at least allow for the (crappy) auto captions. We deaf folks would love to know what they're all saying! #captionit Thank you!

I cannot add captions, but I can type out what they are saying in this clip Henry - I have never been to this city. George - Never? Henry - but I have heard about this city all my life. My parents were born here, they worked here, and then my father had a six week visa to go to New York to do work. He did not tell my mom that they weren't coming back, and he took my.... George - Can you imagine, we're talking about aunts and uncles you're leaving behind. Henry - and I never met them. I never met my grandparents. I never had grandparents, I never had real aunts and uncles. They were taken by the war. My father took my mother's jewelry and bought a box of chocolates, and melted the chocolate and covered the jewelry in chocolate, and put them back in the box so it looked like they were pieces of chocolate. He put them under his arm and when the Nazi's said "are you taking anything of value out of Germany?", he said "No, you can open my bags, I'm only going for six weeks, I'm going on a business trip, and..." George - That was all that chocolate. Henry - and then he pawned it when he got to New York, and that gave him the money to start his new life.....in New York City. George - Man, that's a good story. Henry - I've always respected that they came to a new country, they had to really learn a new language, and then I had a wonderful life. What I really miss is not having that family, and I made a deal with myself that I would be a wonderful grandfather because I never had one. George - Tell me your mother's name. I bet it'd be a pretty name. Henry - Ilsa. Ilsa Anna Marie. George - Ilsa Anna Marie! Henry - My father was Harry Irving Winkler, and my grandparents were Fritz and Pauline. Helmut, my father's other brother, he was having a jacket made, you know, by the tailor, and he was supposed to escape Germany on a submarine, and he said, "No, I'm gonna wait one more day because the jacket is ready tomorrow", and that night they came and took him away. George - Awwww. Henry - and he died in a concentration camp, and most of my relatives were taken to concentration camps. George - So when you come here, what are you looking for, what would you like to find? Henry - It would be great if I could find a street that my father and mother lived on, just to see where they walked. George - That would be something. Henry - You know, where they lived, where they breathed the same air. George - Yeah. Henry - That.....I've never been interested before, George, I'm interested now. For the longest time I have had a wall up. I knew the stories, I appreciated the stories about what happened during the war, but I was always distant from it, and being here in Berlin, being in this city.....I'm ready to drop the wall. George - We're gonna get through this, and we're gonna get through it with laughs. Nobody's ever gonna make us cry again. Henry - Ok, it's a deal. (SHAKES HANDS) George - Yeah Henry - Alright. George - Alright, and who's gonna help who up? Henry - I'm gonna help you up. George - OK. Henry - Alright, here we go. One, two three. (HELPS GEORGE UP) (LOOKS AT SCENERY) This is, look how beautiful this is! George - This is beautiful! Henry - (PUTS ON FONZ VOICE) I'll tell ya something George, let's go find ourselves one of those jelly donuts, ya know what I mean? George - Whoa! Henry - Whoa! (THEY BOTH LAUGH AS THEY WALK AWAY)
