Being a Buddhist there are philosophies I have been trying to live by for the last twenty years And I can see the resemblances to stoicism . I have fallen down many times and feel by Listening to your lecture I can see the areas where I can really improve my way of life Thanks to your lecture. The Way is in my hands

I am an atheist and just came across this thankfully through yet another break up, but I also feel that this philosophy is innate in me

I am just so glad we have Massimo Pigliucci :) By the way, I think that the evening meditation also helps one to learn to value what is really one's own, and measure happiness by it. So, falling asleep you don't think how nice it was to have won a lottery, but how nice it was to have conducted yourself in a certain way. Thus gradually learning to derive one's happiness from one's own actions. I would know - traveled back in time and read some Chrisyppus, well, no - just a guess.

Very practical philosophy although when generally used.. that word means you are not sure , its just a belief..however I found this philosophy to be very practical and could be quite easily practiced in day to day life.

bigdaddyfilmmaker I think he attended the event so that he may hook up with girls. Unfortunately, the guys to girls ratio is what makes him tense and unhappy

Another theory is that he is the son of the lecturer and his father forced him to attend

I am reposting here my thought. I like Stoicism but Buddha is incomparable. I have read many works of Pigliucci. I really enjoyed them but I found him little bit biased or misunderstanding towards Buddha. Or is he being so called Graeco-Roman civilization revivalist?. He does not remark anywhere how Indian philosophies might have influenced Graeco-Roman Philosophies including Stoicism. India and Greece had been connected directly or indirectly long before Alexander, the Great. Some Neo-Pythagoreans have written that Pythagoras had visited India. After Alexander, India and Greece had political, cultural and marital relationships. By the 3rd Century BC, we see some Greek Buddhist monks, by the 2nd century BCE we see Indo-Greeks as patron of Buddhism. I think the Greek surname Bautista is derived from Buddhist. The Father of Church, Clement of Alexandria called Buddha as Boutta. Later Roman empire had great trade relationship with India.

Well well well! You spent the first 5 minutes speaking arrogantly and disparagingly to the people around you. This is unacceptable. I'm not going to watch this and i'm stopping at 5:09. You should've been more humble, you great philosopher!
