Bird over Lebron, easily, keep in mind Lebron wouldn't be in his game, Larry's trash talk would get to him, knock him off his mental edge, Lebron may be able to run circles around Larry, in fact most players did, But Larry didn't have to move quick to dominate. Keep in mind Larry was hurt his entire career, mangled finders, bad back, bad feet, probably reeling from a hard night on the town, Larry put up his scores tore up. a Healthy Larry bird would have no competition.

Larry Bird was the best all-around player to ever play the game of basketball! What I mean by that is if you looked at the top Goat players and add up who had the most points, steals, passes, free throws, three pointer, game winners, clutch shot, full court passes, trash talk, ect., Bird's name would be at the top! Yes, they would have been a goat that had more points, another goat might pass more but it wouldn't be the same goat! Bird was the guy that did everything the most!

There hasn't but there have also been quite a few that were better than his. I'd argue that Jerry West was overall a more efficient player than Larry was. The only thing I'd say Bird has over West is passing as when he was at his best Larry was almost as good a passer as Magic was
@brian7333
@brian7333 Жыл бұрын
@@brandonlamb9067 Just finished watching some Jerry West. Great player. He played a clean, conventional game. He was very efficient but he didn't have Larry's Supreme toolkit. Larry's array of shots was much fuller (Larry had shots even Larry didn't know he had). Also yes, I have Larry as possibly greatest passer ever, or just after Magic. Larry could also rebound better than Jerry and had touch around the rim Jerry didn't. But coming back to Jerry-- did anyone do the fundamentals and efficiency like him, with clutch play? I don't know. He was great. Larry was also a great Leader by example, and sometimes by talking to the team.

Larry wasn't fast, wasn't considered really athletic but he was the most court aware player there was, he knew what everyone else was doing on the court without even looking. It's like he treated the game like a science and before he made a move/pass/shot it seems his mond did a calculation of what would work best and his body just followed along. Also remember he was doing this in a time when defenses were allowed to actually defend, before the rules changed in favor of more offense
@RaymondBCrisp
@RaymondBCrisp Жыл бұрын
To be fair, he had a quick first step in his early days, before his back injury. How do you think he was able to break ankles? I mean, in the Ultimate Mixtape, he puts Dominique Wilkins on the ground, and he was no slouch as a defender. You don't pull that off without being a legit dual shooter/driver threat. He wasn't totally unathletic as some cite and can be seen posterizing 5 or 6 folks in the Ultimate Mixtape, including Hakeem Olajawon. I think he kept growing a bit, and ended up being 6'10" ultimately.

Len Bias was a 6'8 super athlete and mid range assassin with a long wingspan and his high vertical jumpshot mixed with a over the head release made it nearly impossible for anyone to block. He didnt show any care for the 3pt line but he showed great defense and physicality and was a man amongst boys in college. At the very least he would have been James Worthy caliber. At the most he develops an insane passing skill with the Celtics and refines his shooting even more to the 3pt line and is Lebron in the 80s and 90s. Easily gets Bird 6 rings instead of 3.

That takes nothing away from all these other guys who are great but he was just a step ahead. You have to check out the documentary " A Courtship Of Rivals" on Ytube. It tells the story of both Bird and Magic's careers, with a lot of input from both of them.

You have to watch this KZfaq documentary from HBO or you will never fully get the meaning between bird and magic. The biggest rivalry in sports in the 80s. Please just break it down to 15 to 17 minute increments. You'll get so many views as long as you keep it real.

LeBron is a great player(when he actuallyplays. The game is different now. Bird would wipe him down. Not hating. Just facts.

By todays rules it would be a good matchup. By 80's rules Larry would maul him.

Len Bias died from a heart attack he suffered while doing cocaine with his college teammates (probably celebrating his getting signed to the Celtics). The "friends" partying with Bias were all charged with things like possession and distribution, they turned on each other in court, but in the end all criminal charges were dropped involving his death. The case was so big it reached into the University of Maryland, coaches resigned, and Reagan passed a law that gave a mandatory 20 years to life sentence for any drug related felony that caused the death of another person (aka the Len Bias law). The investigation led to the discovery that Bias didn't have the scholastic record to even be playing sports as he was 21 credits short of graduation requirements after four years in college. Bias's younger brother, Jay, was shot and killed in an altercation at a mall a few years later. Their parents became heavily involved in trying to keep kids off the streets and away from drugs.

Fitch resigned bcuz of friction with some of the team members. ML Carr in particular hated Fitch and was agitating to see him gone. Fitch’s coaching style rubbed some the wrong way (not Larry, he liked Fitch).

This is how awesome Larry Bird is: If you ask anyone to start naming the best ever, starting from the GOAT, most people would name about half a dozen black guys, then Larry Bird, then like a HUNDRED more black guys and Yao Meng before they name another white guy...

Lebron is a beast and can do pretty much everything really well. With most comparisons I'd have to choose Lebron. But not if Larry is the other choice. Prime Larry was the best there was. And remember, if you don't choose Larry, then you have to play against him.
