This is the best explanation of TAKING on the offensive overheads, you run in a heart shape, not a drop step. The drop step is for HITTING an overhead only.

I think the first step backward depends on the landing location of the lob. In this instance, she was talking about a lob with a first bounce behind the baseline. If the lob is going to land inside the baseline it doesn't require you to turn around and the drop step would be more effective.

Great lesson on how to cover the lob. If "bottom" red lobs deep straight over / down the side line of "top" green, is "top" red responsible for covering that shot? I think she verbally stated that at the beginning and also defined the coverage area of "top" green with the black marker at 04:20 in video but never moved top red and green showing that scenario. Love that "W" strategy.

The Heart pattern makes sense. I always defend lobs over my head not my partners.

You are correct Jim. So many times I see people run right under the lob and put themselves in a position where they can't return it.

I hate the lob. I use to use it a lot but when it’s over my head on my side it’s my most difficult shot to return.

Does the video clip at the beginning show the correct way to handle a lob hit, not cross-court as Helle describes on the board, but hit directly over one's head? Thanks.

I think there are a couple of different ways to run down the lob. In this instance, the partner in the orange recognized the lob before her partner who was being lobbed saw it. That put her in a better position to track it down.
