This is a taste test/review of the new Betty Crocker Mug Treats Rainbow Chip Cake Mix. It includes the Rainbow Chip Frosting. It was $2.97 at Walmart. 1 pouch mix + 1 pouch frosting (99g) = 400 calories

I actually really love the Rainbow Chip Mug Treat best of all of them. It tastes like the cake mixes from my youth. However, I let the cake cool down somewhat so that it doesn't immediately melt the icing into goo, and I also make the cake with 3 Tbsp of buttermilk, and that probably goes a long way toward making it a bit richer and taste more homemade.

Also if you don't have buttermilk, it can be substituted by adding vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk. You can look up the ratio of milk to vinegar/lemon juice online. It definitely works for any recipe that calls for buttermilk.

My mom got two from the dollar tree in my neighborhood they were so good. It tastes good with Blue Bell Confetti Cake ice cream

THANK YOU for such an honest review I am bummed this flavor isn't good. I was hoping it was. Ok ok ok. New find. Kroger Brand cinnamon rolls w icing in the can they are only 150 calories for one roll w icing. They have cream cheese frosting too they 160 calories. Have you tried these. ?? They are in the refrigerated section by the Pillsbury ones

When you make it , don’t wait for it to cool . Take frosting and just mix everything .its so good

Just finished eating mine. No funky smell over here & this stuff was delicious!! Not sure what this video is on about. Also, mine came with directions ON the bag itself, so maybe they've updated a bit? Good stuff though! 😋

Hi Emily. I'm so sorry I was talking about the Kroger Brand cinnamon rolls. I just checked they are 5 grams of total fat and 2.5 of saturated which is half of the fat and calories of the betty crocker melt aways . And if Tami says they are not good then they are not she has an amazing flavor palette. I trust her taste and opinion of products 100percent !! Sorry again for the confusion

How to make them even better - Make the cake mix put a TSP of vanilla extract then put the frosting in the cake mix and stir well then put in 1/8 of a TSP baking powder after that put put in the microwave in for 30 seconds more than it states!!! KEEP AN EYE ON IT TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T GO OVER THE CUP!!!!! If it does then stop the microwave for 2 seconds and then continue cooking if still not cooked then put it in there for 15 more seconds. Thank me later!!!

I tried a couple kinds of these mug treats, and they were good. But, this rainbow chip flavor had a weird taste. Like, chemical or cleanser. My whole family thought it tasted bad.

Actually, the raw cake batter warning is valid - unless flour is heat-treated, you CAN get salmonella from raw flour/cake batter.

Oh wow, that's crazy! We live on the edge ;) We eat raw cookie dough and grew up licking the beaters from cake mixes. We always handed them to Andrew and Ashley just like our parents did with us.

I don't think the cake was completely cooked through. I haven't had the Betty Crocker Brand, but I have tried Duncan Hines (too many times!) and Ghriardelli 's Cake in a Mug. Both of those brands I had to put the mug back into the microwave to cook the cake a little more than the directions stated. Maybe about 1 min. more. The cake is supposed to look and feel like a sponge- that's how you know it is cooked. Also I have found that when making these "mug treats" always add MILK instead of the water. It really dose make a difference in taste. So those are my tips. :) Cute video. Keep doing more reviews on these. I'd like the know what other brands/flavors are out there! I

I actually liked these..? Ik a lot people may not like them but I though they were alright. But I do think it is better to search up cake mug recipes and eat them. Sense it does taste better in my opinion❤️

We don't have Birthday Cake anything here but last week when I told you I had bought some Quest Bars to try them out again I had them on two days last week and on the second day I had the Birthday Cake flavour with the Fitjoy Birthday Cake (I got the FJ Bar for free). I can confirm it is still my favourite Quest Bar as it is different to the others and definitely tastes like a Fudge or Scottish Tablet protein bar. I bought Fitjoy bars once before and never went back because they were nothing on the Oh Yeah Bars. This time especially trying it alongside the Quest BC did not change my mind on Fitjoy.

I managed to make a mug cake perfectly with almond milk perfect texture the frosting drowned the cake taste out I added sugar in the batter because the cake wasn't that sweet out of four packets only one went the way I wanted

I wonder if the microwave maybe the reason for that cause the same thing happened to me and I felt the cake was a bit dry. I have three more packages and I’m trying to see if I can add anything to them to maybe make the better or maybe use the airfryer instead of microwave

I made three sad part was it was like 14 dollars at Kroger it had that funk stuff first I added to much water so It didn't come out right funky smell second was cakey but a little moist still funky third I ovened on a cupcake pan had the funky smell but went away as it cooled 4th one but this time I'll add almondmilk

I think they either used a smaller mug or doubled the mix in the mug in the picture it’s such a shame i don’t have this in the U.K. as we don’t have that here 😊😊

It's because flour shouldn't be eaten raw because it just as bad as eggs,it can carry ecoli .when flour is heated from cooking it kills it.

Or u can get regular cake mix fill up cup half way 3 tbsp of milk and 1tbsp of canola oil mix together and cook for 2 minutes taste wayyyy better

This is the only mug treat that was taken off the shelf at nearly every store in my area. The others are available except rainbow chip. I can't find this anywhere anymore. I don't know why.

I'd take the rest back to the store and contact the company. It could be a bad batch. Good review. i think the picture on the box just showed greater detail so you would know exactly what the colors of the sprinkles looked like.

You must of gotten a bad box cause I think its great! Also mine has the directions on each package and I used milk instead of water...the smell is the typical boxed cake mix smell...also I add a tiny bit of room temp salted sweet cream butter to add taste to the cake and extra Rainbow chip icing cause its only the best icing EVERRR!!!

You don’t have to write it on there you could just take a picture of the box with your phone! You could do that with a lot of directions/ nutrition facts that you want to get rid of the products box

One small thing--aside from the cake itself, I don't love the idea that kids can't use the microwave, because the cake in the mug comes out hot. Why not just teach the kids to wear oven mitts?
