The first time they formed Voltron is one of the greatest moments in animation history. Because back then you never saw anything like it, and you knew that you were witnessing something very special.

Gives me chills still at the age of 41. First time I saw this as a kid I lost it.

Im 44 years old but every time I hear that formation music it makes me feel like a star struck 8 year old.

I remember being floored as a kid by how legitimately awesome this was. The heavy metal clang his hands make together when he forms the sword is the most unashamedly epic thing I'd seen. I still get chills.

That “clang” they do after they form voltron never gets old. Aaaaahhh. My childhood was epic.

We he clacked his arms together, I almost passed out. As a 7 year old growing up in the 80s, this one scene set a precedent that no other animated series could come close to at that time.

I love how Keith says "Go Lion!" Right after forming Voltron. (The original name for this series in Japan was "Beast King Go Lion")

As a child I watched this and marveled. Now as an adult with responsibilities and children to raise I still find myself thinking about forming blazing swords from my hands. What a great cartoon.

I still get love this series after 35 years. That theme music charges me every time I listen it. True fan probably feel the same thing.

You have to love the robeast's facial expression at 1:11...It totally reads; "Holy crap, I'm about to have my ass served to me on a five-lion course platter"....LONG LIVE LION FORCE VOLTRON....best cartoon ever.

Voltron - so damn awesome, it has Optimus Prime as the narrator, Ultra Magnus as King Zarkon, and G.I. Joe's own Duke as Lance.

One of the greatest animated shows ever in my opinion. No CGI, no computer aided assistance, this was real creative imagination that made a kid like me at 8 years old at that time wish I was Voltron. Such epic memories.

My life will be incomplete until I see a live action version of this, and that fucking theme starts playing in the final battle. It must be so. GO VOLTRON, GO!

For me, it was 1986. I will never forget the day I saw those lions fly into the sky in an attempt to form Voltron. As a cartoon, it shaped my childhood, and so many others too.

Admit it all of us who were alive then and had the toys: You had to do the whole "Active interlocks" thru "and I'll form the head" dialog whenever you put them together. And you hummed the theme while doing it. I was a child of the 80's and damn proud of it!!!

They literally hooked a generation of kids with this sequence. The first episodes of this opening miniseries were mostly just talk about Voltron, but when you finally see him come together in these last few minutes it left you just wanting more. Talk about leaving an audience on a high! It's lasted almost 40 years...and counting!

This part always makes me cry happy tears when I go back to rewatch it. Just like Coran said, Voltron came back to life, and now things are gonna get better.

Every time I watch anything of my Childhood cartoon wise, I always smile. Especially anything Voltron Related. 47 now, and I still love the music the sound of the roars from the lions. I always got hyped as a child when they formed their sword. Still remember owning the toy. Die cast metal blue and Yellow lions. Made that toy so heavy. Lost my shit when my cousin dropped my blue lion and the stomach split open. Not going to lie I punched my cousin that day. I really also became a doctor to fix my toy. lol

I wish they'd remastered this theme for the new Netflix series. It's super good, but this music is amazing and super memorable.

You know it's funny that every time I see the classic Voltron and watch that part where they unite the lions and form the mighty robot whenever the combining sequence is completed and you hear Voltron become energized when you hear that it's the same sound effects of the weapons fire of the Martian War Machines from the original War of the Worlds man that was quite surprising to say the least.

I remember this being very satisfying when they finally formed Voltron and sliced the robeast!

Love how Voltron always looks amazed, when he'd kill the robeasts. Like, "Holy shit! I actually did it!"

this is still as EPIC as i remember! the amount of cgi it would take to pull that transformation off properly would be astonishing. lol

Man how much anyone wants to bet back at the Castle of Lions Allura and Coran were watching this on the monitors with Allura crying tears of joy thinking 'Oh Father if you could see this the Mighty Voltron has returned' and with Coran probably thinking 'It's a Miracle the King of Robots is back'.

Man just seeing the look on the face of that first Robeast the team fought after bringing Voltron back when the Robeast saw Voltron man the look on his face was priceless it was like he was thinking 'Man I am so seriously screwed'.

Seeing Voltron Form For 1st Time Was Bone Chilling As A Child I Was Like Wow So That's Voltron

This transformation during that generation was probably equivalent to when Goku first bcame a Super Saiyan and Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan 2. It was just epic for that generation because up until that point, it was unique. There wasn't anything like it. It was something we had never seen before. I just remember the hoopla that this caused in school the very next day. Everybody was talking about it, the school girls and one of my school teachers talked about it too. Man!... That's just good times, right there.

I get chills each time the robeast starts running. Because then Voltron tips for that one second like he’s gonna fall, then he *charges.*

I always remember that first step from the Blue Lion going forward when the Robeast charged. There's no backing down, it's time to stand and fight.

In my country they played a re-run around 1998. I was six at the time. To us kids in kindergarten, we were all mad about Voltron. We spoke the words like mantra: Формирайте стъпалата и краката! (Form feet and legs) Формирайте ръцете и тялото! (Form arms and body) А аз ще формирам главата! (And I'll form the head) It was a good childhood. And I miss it.

Didn't it piss you off when Netflix and DreamWorks changed the sword? I'm glad they tried different things but you don't mess with the sword. Voltron's original huge sword is a symbol and trademark

I love older animation where you can see the subtle changes from being hand drawn. Gives it a great feel like that lil hiss from vinyl records.

The first time I saw it, this sequence was awesome. After a dozen or so episodes we just changed the channel when it started cuz we knew exactly how it was going to go from that point on.

Little known fact Voltron was one of the first if not the first shows to broadcast in stereo so when I was a kid all the TV stores would turn to Voltron to show off the quality of stereo sound.

As awesome as Legendary Defender is, Voltron's first battle against the vampire robeast will always be epic!

i will never forget how much i loved seeing this moment for the first time as a 2nd grader. I still have a Voltron toy to this day bought in 1997 (clone of the original 1984 Matchbox set). When this movie comes out (when Hollywood gets it act together on this project) it will do gangbusters...

I agree the transformation has to be on the greatest of all animation history when that came out. The first episode is legendary and iconic. In 1984 l was 11 and in the 5th grade. I would run to the store after school and go straight to the store. Bacon Cheetos and football bubble gum l would get to watch Voltron. Aww l miss and at times think about my childhood memories. Life was simplier,peaceful and wonderful. There will never ever be a great time like that like the early 80's. Thanks for posting.

There would have never been a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers without this show. I lost my mind when watching this as a kid. Always brings back so much nostalgia.
