They cut out the tip of their ring finger to sign their name with blood. (This is why the hand in 0:49 of the video is missing one knuckle!) Also about the watch, I was surprised that you could pick that up haha. I think its a reference to the event when two protestors swapped their watch before taking down Japanese prime minister. Yoon Bonggil, the man who took on the mission, before his worthy undertaking, told the leader of the protestors to swap watches with him because his watch was fairly new but the leader's was old. He said 'I dont have a lot of time left in my life anyways' and gave it to him, and it became the symbol for the protestors' willpower along with the hand. But I also think that your interpretation with remembering is right too:) It means a lot for us that foreigners like yourself are interested in the darkest yet one of the most important historical events.
