Well, it was great 'now and then' more than 'then and now'; we tend to forget the show's regrettable tendency to fall back on a few formula plots (Endora screws up Darrin's life just to be annoying) that were used over and over - sometimes almost verbatim in later seasons. But in any case, the show is too sunny and cheerful for modern audiences. Nowadays people prefer 'Riverdale', with its unlit sets and desaturated colors and grim plots, to anything that would actually look like 'Archie'. Somehow audiences insist of the perception of 'reality' in their entertainment, even when it is a Marvel or DC Comic property. Which is weird. 'Supergirl' started with a lighter touch, but did not manage to sustain that quality for long. And this has _nothing_ to do with any of the culture wars stuff people whinge about when they look back at old shows: the Archie comics have kept up to the mores of the times with a diverse cast of characters dealing - in a lighthearted way - with more modern social issues, such as Kevin Keller's gayness, without losing the look and feel that the comic has had for the better part of a century. (When Kevin came out to Jughead in the comic, Jughead's reaction was perfectly in character: oh boy, this is a great way to mess with Veronica's head. And so it was not a big deal, and just made for more fun.)

MARVEL's WANDAVISION is the very close equivalent to this series, with the combo of "I Dream of Jeannie" and "My Favorite Martian" plus "Small Wonder" (a sitcom about a child robot)TV series.

I remember watching it on tv as a kid in the 80s, probably on Fox 16 without cable channels.

But they shattered his mind.

@@GB-hf4ro Exactly! Without conflict, it would be boring! The built in conflict is what made "Bewitched" far superior to "Jeannie". If Darrin were flexible, there'd be no conflict. Look at All in the Family, after Mike & Gloria moved out of the house, the show was never the same.

True. Sam was Darrin's savior when it came to helping him figure out ad campaigns to the point where he time and time again saved his job and further advanced the company. Also, Larry was a brownnoser throughout the series.
