After a private detective (Robert Strauss) jeopardizes Darrin's (Dick York) chances of getting a new client, he gives Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) carte blanche to use magic and exact revenge.
From Season 2 Episode 31 'Follow That Witch: Part 2' - A detective one of Darrin's client's employees hires discovers that Samantha is a witch. His employer thinks that he is crazy so he decides to blackmail Samantha.

It's silly but I always found the idea of being a witch with magical powers easier to believe than the idea of being a man with a wife who was a witch and NOT wanting her to ever use her magic. If my wife was a witch I'd have a long wish list to give her!!

Darrin went overboard for sure. I could understand him not wanting Samantha to interfere with any of his personal goals, because it would only mean something if he accomplished them on his own. But beyond that? No that was just being cruel for no good reason.

If I understand right, the producers wanted Dick Sargent from the beginning, and they had to go with York instead, and only got their chance to make the change because of York’s bad back. I do agree York was the better Darrin anyway!

But Darrin still didn't learn to abandon his rejection of Samantha's powers. Captain Nelson had a much better approach to Jeannie's powers.

@@thenewcenturyhomeste Yeah, unlike Jeannie, Samantha actually understands how mortal life works, so it wouldn't have made a lot of sense for her to use magic in ways that complicated their lives humorously the way Jeannie might. Samantha using magic to solve all their problems would be boring, so they made Darrin be the 'bad guy' on that front and insist on not "cheating" with magic. It was an unfortunate bit of forced conflict engine; Sabrina the Teenaged Witch did a better job with the formula, but also benefitted from being some 30 years later in terms of time to learn how to write such things. Incidentally, my headcanon is that Sabrina and Bewitched are in the same setting.

The actress was clearly ripping off Judy Holliday's ditzy character in the 1950 film, Born Yesterday. Holliday earned an Oscar for her role in that great film.

What a great episode! The show did a good job at showing the mages only use their powers for little things and tricks...so when they finally got to unleash the FULL potential of their powers, it was truly remarkable. Don't mess with Sam!

Samantha's revenge! But Leach didn't get the message, so she put him in a bull ring. In CATNAPPER, Leach made good on his promise and showed up at Sam's door again. Again, he came away empty handed. 🙂

"Honey, Go ahead and do your worst," When Darrin told Samantha to go for it, and she did. Even before the chandelier hits the table it breaks in two. Samantha did not hold back, her magic was at full force, and each spell was powerful. It is a powerful lesson, don't blackmail anyone. Bewitched is one of my favorite TV shows.

I enjoy watching Elizabeth Montgomery. I grew up watching the show. I have a special memory with her. I got to meet her when I was 16, around 1976. She gave me her autograph. She was beautiful, kind and gracious.

My favorite episode. I have no idea why the FETV cable channel changed the time this program is on From daytime to 2am. Evidently they didn't think it was popular enough to air in the daytime hours. Bewitched is just about the most popular Comedy TV series ever made.

What a brilliant show this was! Special Effects GOOF: At the beginning of the destruction, when the lamp drops to the table crushing it, you can see the table collapse BEFORE the lamp touches it - The lamp is still in the air when the table collapses.
