YOUR SKIN IS NOT ONLY DARK

i am an Indian, and in India if you are a dark skinned women, you are looked down upon and considered ugly. I had always hated my complexion because i was told to by everyone. It was only in the western media that i saw women of my skin colour being called beautiful. Watching and listening to dark skinned girls being confident in their brown skin and embracing their melanin has made me love mine too. Edit: As an Indian, I am ashamed of the recent controversial song, "Beyonce Sharma Jayegi" (Translation: Beyonce will be ashamed *after seeing a fair skinned girl*) because it just shows how racist and colourist INDIAn Media is. but i am so very proud of the indians speaking against it. I had to come back here, because the moment i heard about the title of that colorist song, i was reminded of this song.

That can’t be easy. Dark skin is gorgeous. Unfortunately the world is late on this truth. We gotta instil the self love into our children that we didn’t get. That’s the only way 🥰 Best wishes to you.

Why cant you allow people to feel good about themselves? How does it affect you if someone with brown skin feels good because of this song? A whole lot of respect and love to Beyonce for making this. I'm so glad my little girl gets to grow in a new world that promotes the beauty of dark skin. Its been really hard for most dark skinned indian girls who are now parents and have girls who are dark as well. Now I can tell my daughter you're as beautiful as you feel. The colour of your skin doesn't define you your confidence does. I just wish the older generation did this for us too...🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

This song is so inspiring and necessary. When I was a young child living in Orange County, I used to get chased home everyday. The kids would make fun of my hair and my skin. They would call me Chocolate Milk. My mother would tell me to call the children chasing me vanilla. I would have loved to have an anthem like this one. Our young black girls needed one so badly, so that they could understand that they are beautiful. Thank You Beyonce!

Songs like this help me to appreciate myself more. As a black girl who grew up in Los Angeles, I often felt insecure about my skin tone. I wished I had lighter skin, lighter hair, straight hair, a thinner figure, or light colored eyes, like all the pretty girls around me. Then I came to Atlanta for college and got the opposite reaction. Several people here have point blank asked me, "What are you? You must be half white, or mixed, right?." No matter what I responded, it didn't seem to change their opinion of me. I was either too light, too dark, or not African enough for their taste. Moral of the story is, it doesn't matter what color your skin is, it matters what you think of yourself and trying to let that inner beauty shine. Easier said than done, but if you are reading this comment, just know that you are beautiful for who you are, no matter what others think of you. Feel free to comment on your experiences too.

I think the part with Beyonce and Kelly at the end as they stare into each other's eyes with the lyrics "'I'd never trade you for anybody else" happening at the same time is the most touching part of this video, just for the sake of their personal relationship. Beyonce considers Kelly every bit her true sister as much as Solange. The two of them have been through so much together from childhood, success/fame, navigating the entertainment industry, motherhood, and so much more. Kelly is one of Bey's ride or dies and Bey will never forget that. Also, the song and video may also be Bey's way of addressing colorism and the longtime narrative that Kelly's darker complexion held her solo career back while Bey's lighter complexion helped to fuel hers. This was Bey's public way of telling Kelly she's enough and she's beautiful the way she is.

It's literally all about where you were born and grew up. Black people in the Africa and in the predominantly black Caribbean countries seem to have that strong foundation of being comfortable in their skin and knowing and understanding that they are beautiful. In India we deal with another type of skin color difference. There's a popular belief that being white or fare means you gonna get a good husband. being dark is a sin. that's what Indian media, Indian culture has depicted in their contents, many Bollywood music always portrayed a brown or black guy as comedic character ( there's even a popular song called ' Hum kale hai to kya hua dilwale hai ' which translates as ' i am man with a good heart even if i am black' ) . In Bollywood a majority of actresses are fair skinned and some even white. however the ideologies are changing. we see a variety of celebrities, fashion brands, cosmetic brands and even films on this matter. India may not have racism, but skin color difference still exists. i am proud of my skin color.

I shouldn't, shouldn't have listened to this song when I'm at the most sensitive point of my menstrual cycle. I can't stop crying. I'm not ashamed of my skin color at all, but when I was a little girl I didn't like it at all, now I think of all the girls listening to this song who can feel more confident and know that their skin is precious as a diamond and that's so beautiful. If someday I have a daughter, I will definitely sing this to her

Learning about South Asian colorism legit shocked me even as a Black woman having seen the absolutely astounding beauty of y'all specific range of dark skin tones. It's just so warm and velvety in every shade! Then seeing them in brighter colors and jewel tones and mountains of gold! It broke my heart that a little girl gifted with a blessing like that could hear the same hurtful things I did as a little girl about my own skin. To feel disregarded and disrespected. Every litte Brown Skin Girl should be guilded and treasured to the ends of the earth.

Are you saved? This is the Gospel of your salvation. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures We are in the last days according to the Bible. Do you know if you're going to Heaven? Are you a sinner? Repent, trust Jesus and God will give you everlasting life. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life

I ain't black nor a girl but this song hits. I am a dark-skinned Filipino guy and was ALWAYS teased and judged for it. It made me lose my confidence, so I bleached my skin. I thought that once my skin is whiter than Snow White herself, I could finally be pleased with myself. Turns out I didn't please myself but the people shitting on me. So, five months ago, I stopped bleaching my skin and now I am back to my dark complexion. Loving it now and more confident than ever.

@@mic-game6274 India's caste system is brutal despite its laws banning discrimination against "untouchables", etc. India is extremely colorist and life there made very openly difficult for dark-skinned people; much worse than what we Black Americans face here in the U.S. Although your response is well-meaning and true, consider these things before making such an "easy" comment to an extremely harsh and difficult situation. Very brave for Sia and anyone like her to comment and even more brave for them to decide to love themselves despite a world which hates them based off their skin color. Edit: *** It would be ignorant of me to assume that the originator of this comment section (Sia) is directly from or currently lives in India although that is her ethnicity (assuming East Indian and not Indigenous American). It would be patronizing of me to vote her or anyone like her as some sort of unwilling hero for merely speaking their truths; no human should have to be a hero when it comes to their skin complexion. The legacy of racism, colorism and misogyny are generationally passed down from centuries of oppression. As a Black woman I can relate and just try to offer some compassion sometimes so we don't feel alone. Thanks. ***
