Each single line of this song touched me.
Beyonce, I felt for you since I saw this scene!!!*
You're the BEST of the BEST!!
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Listen to the song here in my heart
a melody I start but can't complete
Listen to the sound from deep within
Its only beginning to find release
Ohh the time has come for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside and turned
Into your own, all 'cause you won't listen
Listen
I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried
To say whats on my mind
You should have known
Now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what
You've made of me
I followed the voice, you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
You should have listened
There is someone here inside
Someone I thought had died
So long ago
Oh I'm screaming out
And my dreams will be heard
They will not be pushed Aside or turned
Into your own
All 'cause you won't listen
Listen
I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried
To say whats on my mind
You should have known
Now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what
You've made of me
I followed the voice, you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
I don't know where I belong
But I'll be moving on
If you don't, if you won't
Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start, but I will complete
Now I am done believing you
You don't know not what I am feeling
I'm more than what you've made of me
I followed the voice you think you gave to me
But now I got to find my own - my own

I don't think Curtis ever really loved Deena. I do think he cared about her, not as a "friend" or "wife" but as a "product". She is literally his livelihood. I think Curtis's marriage to Deena was a strategic move to finalize his investment to his product. The fact that he was sleeping with her was a bonus. And think he had the same idea with Effie but it didn't work because he couldn't control her like he controlled Deena....

+J.R. M I partly agree with you; personally, I think he thought he loved Deena, but in reality he loved her more as an object, something he could possess. Not as an actual human being with her own opinions and dreams.

not only is this song a "fuck you" to curtis, but it's also a big "fuck you" to any man who thinks he can control and abuse a woman however he wants to. this song was perfect for the movie, but it's also perfect for anyone who feels like they're being disrespected and mistreated.

NOBODY has sung this song better than her. Yes there are higher versions (by artists who are sopranos), but 'higher' does NOT mean better. There is something the way Beyonce belts. It's so clean and eargasmic especially when she incorporates some rasp on her voice. I've heard A LOT of artists singing this song and they're just mostly screaming and dying on the higher part with no emotion at all. But Beyonce has so much emotions even in the highest peak of the song. She really has that signature that says, THIS SONG IS MINE.

Bey looks so pretty with dark hair 😍 and watching Deena be so timid throughout the movie was lowkey frustrating....when her face dropped when he called himself telling her what her voice lacks and a fire form in her eyes was so refreshing . I just knew she was about to finally take a stand for herself and did she ever 💁🏾 this song was everything. Take that Curtis with your controlling self .

not only is this song extremely powerful and inspiring but it just adds to Beyoncé's sex appeal even more. There's something incredibly attractive about when women find themselves and realize that they can do for themselves what men think they can't and that we have our own wings and we don't need a man's permission to fly. This is one of the many songs that make me so, so proud to be a female! 🙌🙌🙌🙌

I love her in this scene. She giving all these different faces to show her emotions and feelings. And it’s a powerful moment in the movie, you get to see that Deena has just been used as this tool to get them to their “dream” and nobody ever really care to hear her voice. I also like how when they were in the studio and the engineer (guy sitting next to Curtis) is just bumping his head to her singing and Curtis looks worried. It’s because Deena has talent and can do this on her own, she doesn’t need him like he previously stated at the dinner table

It's amazing how sometimes people can give us the strength we need to believe in ourselves and then once we do we realize that they are imperfect wayyy more than we were in the beginning.
