I don't get that vibe at all from this anniversary edition. The vibe I get from this, is that it's a money grab. It's only a remaster, not even a remake. They're trying to bring in more money to put toward the sequel that is never going to happen. I guarantee we see new footage of the sequel later this year (funded by this remaster), to keep the hype up and bring in more revenue for the developers..... only to go another 5 years with 0 news about the sequel. THAT'S the kind of vibe I get from this game releasing. FAR FROM someone caring about the franchise.

@@64-96 The GOG version works fine. The delisted Steam version was broken and had broken Tages DRM. This video is also strange. The old version definitely has shadows. It looks like some driver issue or it was recorded on low settings.

@@joe--cool The GOG version has exactly the same issues as the Ubisoft Connect version, the Steam version is just even more broken, but on a modern PC all of the versions are utterly irreparably broken from audio sync issues to broken graphical effects. The launcher has a multitude of options but offer no perfect solution to the issues as it's always a trade off between broken in one way or broken in another. There is no fan patch available either that attempts to rectify the state of the game. I have tried for years to play this game on modern PCs and it just doesn't work properly, it always ends up being broken in some way and a worse experience than the original console versions or the HD ports on Xbox 360 and PS3. Infact, you can emulate the PS3 HD version on RPCS3 and have a WAAAAAY better experience.

It's a bit of both; you can see AI upscaling being used on some parts, like the posters in the cities - especially those with text, or many metal surfaces on the Black Isle.

The colors in the original are more vibrant compared to the darker tones in the remaster. The artstyle seems to have suffered with trying to make the game more realistic. Despite that, it seems good.

I feel the same way. The original art style was like a vibrant watercolor painting (Same with the Rayman series). Now they just plastered realistic textures everywhere!

A Lot of Color / Vibrancy was lost in the Remaster (Particularly in Monster Design), which seems to be pretty common in "HD Remasters". Not sure why "HD = Muted Colors"... -.-

Things that could be better: 1. There's a softness in the original artwork that I wish was preserved across the remaster. It's preserved in the remake's water, but it's not present in Jade's hair and the vegetation, it's harsh and weird instead. 2. Architecture cornices and arches. They missed the depth effect in MANY textures in the city. The shadows are supposed to be painted longer to give the right effect. Buildings are looking flat in the remaster. 3. The remake is missing the yellow/orange warmth of some areas, sunny spots, hut's roofs, Jade's skin.

Si le hacía falta, porque más allá de lo visual, la versión orginal da muchos problemas al jugarlo en una PC moderna. Lástima que Ubisoft siga con sus prácticas cuestionables de obligarte a vincular una cuenta de Connect para jugar en Steam y ni siquiera dar logros, no lo va a jugar casi nadie.

El juego necesita un Remake, es que envejeció muy mal..y eso que yo sigo jugando juegos de PS1 y PS2 xq los gráficos no me importan mucho, pero este necesita algo más que solo texturas nuevas e iluminación, en PC si te da problemas podés jugarlo en emuladores

Great comparison. If Legend of Dragoon’s remaster or remake could have a huge graphic update that actually shows all of the characters, monsters and setting in a PS5 look, while keeping true to the anime esc art style.

It looks like an early 7th gen game where in many ways they still resemble a 6th gen game but have some nice enhancements to lighting. It's a good remaster that doesn't overdo some effects

I'm surprised. It looks pretty good! Better than i was expecting. There's something weird in this console generation. A lot of games being remastered and remade. And some of them are better than actual releases. Anyway, this game is awesome and i gonna play it again. Don't know if the gameplay aged well but i'll give it a try.

I mean the original PC version GOG and Steam has problems. Also i'm not that broke that i couldn't pay 20 for a remaster to play one of my fave games again after so long. Also we got clear connection to the sequel with the treasure hunt. Now we kinda know what the prequel might be like. The trailer they showed with the adult jade isn't a thing anymore. I guess at that time it was supposed to be full on sequel instead of a prequel. Seems that the direction had changed a lot during the development time and it seems they might have decided to switch from the story following jade's path to evil with her power to show who she is and why and how she has the power.

@@R0m41ks redoing the entire lighting system and thus replacing all lights within the game ? I can assure you this is not something you can achieve with a simple mod >->. (I'm not saying this is perfect in the remaster tho..) Besides, if mods were easy to do on BG&E, I'm pretty sure at least one or two would have popped in 20 years.

4:40 where did her shadow go in the remaster? I mean the original shadow is wrong, but the remaster doesn´t show it at all. rest of the game looks very polished and the re-copmosed soundtrack is also nice. I will play it on ps5 cause I read about crashes on steam and I don´t want denuvo, cheat-protection or other DRM crap on my pc for a remade single player game from 2003. this is from a time when ubisoft was still doing good games. 20 euros worth!

Textures look really good but not the lighting and shadowing, also character faces are not good. Pey'J looks way too rubbery and Jade looks off, especially Pey'J's eyes, too big and don't look where they're supposed to. He looks angry and confused the entire time lol. The sky is too cloudy / gray the whole time, colours have been toned down. Water reflections were better in the original. The added vegetation and extra detail needs to be applauded though.

@@Finnishmanni I don't like how rubbery the characters look, faces just look less alive, quite a few facial expressions are wrong. The original has this nice unique artstyle where it's not quite cartoony like, say, Ratchet and Clank, but looks like a 3D animated movie. Like a fantasy painting.

@@Finnishmanni Trust me, it's not. The artstyle is different and there are legitimately wrong facial expressions. Eyes look lifeless. It's also funny that the remaster somehow has lower quality water reflections, they look jaggy. I just have a keen eye and this is one of my all-time favorite games.

It's a pet peeve of mine when your environments have more detailed materials than your main character. Even the normal mapping of the creature NPCs stand out next to Jade. I'll keep playin' on the Xbox.

I don't know who was the art director on this "remaster", but he's an idiot. Those textures didn't need the detail from normalmaps, they needed a resolution boost, eliminate mirroring where it is visible, and that's it, what was done with it is some kind of misunderstanding

Ah yes cause Ubisoft always uses the UE5 for their games. They upgraded this old engine to have new graphical features, just screaming "remake it in UE5!" will not do anything. This old engine with new features could also do the same as the Unreal Engine. Funny how nobody has any ideas what game engines are and how they work but still scream stuff like "remake it in UE5!" if the game would have a too much of a realistic art style then it would also break the whole look and it would feel uncanny. Do you really think raytracing with global illumination and reflections would look good on a cartoon art style like this?

Früher haben es Modder gemacht und musste nicht das Game noch mal kaufen. Ob einem die 20€ Wert ist muss jeder selbst wissen. Wer das Game noch nicht hat der kann Remaster kaufen aber für die Leute die es als Original haben sollten es sich zweimal überlegen. In der original PC Version kann man auch in 4k spielen, die Remaster Version hat nur bessere Texturen und Shader. Die Geometrie ist geblieben.

Für das Original gibt es KEINE Texturenmods oder irgendwas was die Grafik verändert bis auf ein ENB. So viel zum Thema Modding. Die Geometrie ist bei vielen Charakteren ne komplett andere, grade Peyj und Double H haben komplett neue Modelle bekommen. Zudem hat nicht jeder einen PC. Das Remaster finde ich lohnt sich wegen dem Bonuscontent schon.

@@overdev1993 es gab ein HD Remake von Modder mit HD Texturen und Per Pixal & Phong Lightning, Bump Mapping, High Resolution Particle Effects, Tessellation usw. Hatte ich damals gehabt. Finde aber im Moment kein Link wo man es downloaden kann. 🤷🏻 Das war so um 2016 wo ich Beyond Good Evil mit der Mod gezockt habe. Videos gibt's hier noch. Musst du mal Beyond Good Evil HD Remake eingeben. 😉

Almost nothing is reused from the codebase (basically the skeleton) of the original game (Oddworld: New n Tasty, Dead Space Remake, Crash N.Sane Trilogy, MediEvil PS4, SpongeBob BFBB Rehydrated, Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 1 + 2, Resident Evil 1 remake, the cancelled Goldeneye fanmade remake) -Re-imagining: Some much is altered that it's an entirely new game but has the same core ideas as the original (Oddworld: Soulstorm, Resident Evil "remakes" starting from RE2, Ratchet and Clank 2016, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill 2 "Remake", Goldeneye Wii)

It was a great game, but they could of done much better with the current technology available. It just looks like another hour of work was put into it. They could of made it look realistic by putting in a few days.

which would have broken the art style completely. one the reasons people are coming back to the game is the cartoon art style. if you add too much realism to it then it will look really uncanny and will not fit.

Nah for me while I'm split I like ps2 better as well, I think it's due to the conflicting nature of the style in the new one, they are mainly focusing on realism as their design philosophy when the og was clearly more cartoony. It's a major issue with many of these remasters

Curiosa remasterización. Especialmente en las texturas más "realistas" que me parecen a ratos un poco fuera de lugar, que no me termina de encajar pero tampoco me desagrada. Para mí el original siempre tuvo una clara tendencia hacía un estilo tipo cómic por cosas como las texturas de Jade. Yo hubiera tirado más hacia un estilo tipo Sly Cooper: Ladrones en el tiempo o algo así, pero bueno, al menos tenemos el clásico de vuelta y en mejor forma que nunca.

Texturas bastante más realistas y mejor sombreado; Por lo demás el mismo juego. Si jugaste el original no sé si merece la pena, si no lo jugaste lo veo totalmente recomendable

They did a lazy sharpen filter job on the textures and ruined the look of the game... It ain't nostalgia. The dreamy look from the original has more room for your brain to fill in the details.... The new one lacks color and has too much contrast.
