Once I understood that this is a comedy of extremes/absurds, I appreciated this show more. They know none of these situations would happen in real life, so they just have fun with them. I laugh out loud with the absurdity of it all.

You know, maybe harem animes could work if it was more slice of life with more reliance on comedy then “wow hot girls after one super bland protagonist with nothing interesting enough to warrant all this attention!” If the girls were treated like normal people rather than objects for the protagonists attention, it would actually be a pretty interesting genre.

The point of the genre tends to be for self insert and they want to make the characters bland as possible so that guys can like a girl, if they gave them too much personality it would be harder to sell merch like figurines

The only thing that popped into my head is rias from high school dxd cause as the leader of the group she literally is keeping things together and you're also correct about her being slept on cause I remember there was a subplot about issei (MC) never calling her by her actual name and just calling her president but technically she is the face of the anime and she is the first person issei wanted to sleep with but you know the rules of harem, "As the universe expands, so does the harem".

@@sailorm4y4ri I don't think of hataraku Maou sama (the devil is a part timer) as a harem also there's one anime that doesn't follow that pattern, I think the name of the anime is rakudai calvary, cause it has all the tropes but he starts with the girl that has red hair and ends with the girl that has red hair.

i was really trying to like this anime because i thought it might be the first positive depiction of true, open and honest polyamory in anime. but his disrespect for his original girlfriend's boundaries was a deal-breaker. didn't make it past ep 1, and based on the stuff you describe from the other episodes, sounds like i dodged an uncomfortable bullet.

I feel like you might like 100- gf. In it the author seems like he's going for what a harem harem would be like if the girls in it genuinely liked each other. Its part comedy so it gets wacky sometimes but the author seems like they actually doing something approaching genuine polyamory instead of a bunch of girls into the same guy.

I couldn’t watch this past the first episode. Ultimately it’s just another excuse to make an absurd Hetero-Male fantasy and there are plenty of those already. Also I feel like they missed the opportunity to make a show about a real poly couple. The first GF (not gonna learn names) actually expressed interest in how cute the second GF looked. This could have lead to them all trying to date each other and not just two girls trying to date one boy Thanks for reviewing it though I got just as frustrated as you did and I found it vindicating.

This is really "Anime You Can't Watch in Public - Single Show Edition". And as usual, it's glorious. Of course, I'm old enough to have Ranma and Tenchi Muyo as my entries to harem anime back when these series were new. And now I have the extreme discomfort of having a 15 year old daughter and anime fan who knows her father watches harem anime.

I gave it a few episodes, enjoyed some parts of it, but the premise is kind of too over-the-top for me. I'm not sure if the author intended it to be, probably. I imagine it's supposed to be a harem deconstructions, but it's just not a show for me. But happy for everyone else who enjoys

I really hope you keep giving the show a chance. Hiroyuki is one of my favorite mangaka. You just have to lean into the adorable idiocy and zaniness of the characters and premises. Personally I feel it's unfair to put their work into the trash category with a lot of less creative and genuinely funny works, but that kind of thing is subjective so *shrug*

In the manga Naoya mentioned that his parents work outside the city and are never at home so he is not the one actually paying for the place, and at least in the case of Saki it makes sort of sense that her parents let her sleep in Naoya's place since they are neighbors, they can literally show up at anytime if they wished and she probably has slept there before, even if only in a sleepover, but they have yet to explain how in the fuck Nagisa managed to just moved in just like that, do her parents not care? Do they even know?

I was really interested in watching this anime after hearing some things about it since it sounded like polyamory but... This isn't poly. When it comes to polyamory, there's always very cemented knowledge of being together with the other people in the relationship, but in this case it's all very one sided. This is just just two people into one person, that's just having two girlfriends/boyfriend's.

I attempted to watch this anime but I couldn't finish it. I think got about 16 minutes in but couldn't handle much more. I've seen clips of the gags which make it seem great, the journey to get between the gags is hard for me to stomach.
