@@James-oo1yq It has been really nice so far. Since you can heat up the car with mobile app you don't need to never scrape the windows or go into freezing cold car. The energy consumption is quite large when it's really cold but that really doesn't matter since I have the long range model with huge 100kwh battery. Probably still problem with cars that have smaller battery. And the AWD system works really nicely as well!

@E Van I have regular long range. I would wanted to get performance but the price difference was bit too high for me and now after getting this I think car really doesn't need to be any faster than this is :D

I personally think Tesla will go bankrupt. Once all the big car makers (GM, Ford, VW, Audi etc) make more EV vehicles, the poor build quality and repair hassles of Tesla's will kill them off. They are only doing well because they have cornered the market (for now)

In this case it's a matter of scale. A whole battery pack is a part. They do sell those. If an owner mangles the original beyond repair what should the dealer do? Sounds like that's what happened here.

Agree - but it's best not to buy any product in the first place, where the manufacturer actively obstructs owners from getting repairs done by an independent technician.

German car firms are a prime example and have been doing it for years. Their Dealers then charge exorbitant amounts to maintain and repair their products. They have been doing it for decades - I know as I worked for one most of my life.

Tesla seems to be addressing right to repair substantially with their upcoming cell phone, which will hopefully change that whole industry for the better. I suspect massive battery packs are much more problematic. Perhaps a huge redesign could fix this issue. But it sounds like a very rare issue, so why do it? Most Teslas seem to last a very long time, batteries and all.

@@venturestar the message is that tesla should be making the parts available for repair if they themselves want to charge the entire cost of replacing a battery pack vs selling refurbished battery blocks.

OH and also it would be 2 years before they could make the part, I am pretty sure you would be pissed. Also there is plenty of cars that last way past 20 years with just regular maintenance.

Hmmm not sure. Said he took out the stock battery for a 90 volt battery and they failed to seal it and it got water damage and ruined. Why I leave things stock. Plus you don’t lose the warrantee.

Thing is, it’s a Tesla thing, not a electric car thing. A Toyota Prius lasts a good while these days, as do their plug in models. Tesla is just kind of weird.

teslas are very new in the grand scheme of things, the big auto makers will produce good long lasting EV's im sure as they have the experience building cars that Tesla won't have for another 50 or so years if they make it that long anyways.

An EV battery will last 8-10 years and a well maintained gasoline car will last 20 years. No one will spend +$20k on a new Tesla battery for a 10 year old car. How are EV cars better for the environment if they make the world waste so much more in resources?

@@RogerM88 China, I know. But you have to admit that there seems to be a "slight" difference in quality between the ones Tesla put in the car vs the "upgraded" ones he put in that started LEAKING. The car is totaled because whatever leaked from the batteries caused damages that Tesla do not want to fix. I don't know why they don't want to fix the damage, but I assume that it has to do with liability. Either way, the issue here is that he did upgrades on his own on a car that was imported through semi-legit means. It backfired on him and he wants to put the blame on tesla. The reality is that it is his own fault.

If I remember correctly, parts of a Tesla Model S are titanium on the underside of the frame to keep the batteries from being taken out by an above-average pot hole or speed bump. That probably held the frame together well.
