WHY YOU BETTER AVOID THESE PROBLEMS Firstly, for your transmission which is expensive and also for your engine, which is very expensive.
Then, finally somewhere and tear items that were out twice as fast as they used to not happy Jan, especially with a price increase again and again over the last few years.
 it’s about time Bfg had a price cut if the demand slows down that’s what will happen.

I'm a new Toyota hilux owner and its my first 'ute' as you Aussies would call it. This video probably saved my transmission. Luckily I haven't towed anything yet but I'm planning on touring for months with a caravan (albeit its a pretty light one of around a ton) and I had no idea I shouldn't just put it in drive. Even the people who sold me this car said that the 'S' option is "just pointless as everyone just keeps it in drive". More so I'm planning a big move in which I am going to tow a trailer close to max capacity for 1500 kilometers several times over the span of a couple of weeks. Just want to thank you for making these videos to get this information out that should be widely known but apparently isn't as I've never even heard of this from anyone.

And then theres me with my 50 bucks a piece off brand all seasons that have basically no visible wear after ~5000km and are legitimately the best tires ive ever had great grip and super quiet. The wifey asked me what I had done to the suspension and steering this time when first driving them because they felt that good to her.

20 years ago I put a set of BF Goodrich AT's on my 99 Triton. I cant remember the K's but they wore out so fast I swore I would never get another set. I had heard that they got better but now looks like they're going back to the old days of faster wear. After going through tyres and vehicles in the last 20 years I like the price and performance of the Falken Wildpeak AT.

Off road great but on road they are outright dangerous, I prefer Yokohama Geolandar A/T

Be thankful, I got under 15,000kms out of my 2016 set, tread down to less than 1/4mm on all of them, including spare. 9,500kms bitumen, 5,500kms up and down the flat roads through the Cape. No OTR, Frenchmans, or any other 'hard' tracks, just stayed on the dirt 'highway'. 2 punctures, one total failure, on 3 tyres. I rate them along side the Nexans, and those sort of crap tyres and wouldn't pay more than $180 each, just to get a roadworthy, or keep it legal until the cash rolls in. I will never buy them again.

I only tow in 4th on my 120 5 speed. Keep engine and trans temps under control. Driving West out of Gold Coast, 15% grade over the mountains can see you down to 2nd when towing.

Yep, back to fourth up the mountain back to third back to second and just cruise. Lucky it’s only about 10 minutes worth you get that.

Easiest way to avoid trouble is to flip it when warranty expires and dont over capitise on accessories. As Anthony says, only fit the essential accessories 😅

I’m now hesitant to buy BFG again until BFG Corp can explain why the Thailand manufacturing is different to what we have been used to expecting from the USA tyres.

5mm is half worn. They only have 10mm to start with. New bfg kt has 15mm and willlast longer. I like wildpeaks but they don’t last any longer but are cheaper.
@Fourby4Diesel
@Fourby4Diesel 7 ай бұрын
Firstly, they are not 10 mm to start with and secondly 50% worn would be 80% used since you can’t drive down to them being slicks

Time to change brands for sure . I’ve run Micky Thompson for about 20 years and have had a awesome run out of them . My prado has had a set of stz atz and now Mtzs and have got over a 100k on the first 2 and hopefully on the mtz too but they are noisy and chew more fuel so probably should of stuck to the atzs.

I gave up on Mickey Thompson‘s at my second set when they cracked along all the sides of the blocks and started eliminating. They replaced them under warranty, but at 10,000 km I don’t want this on a trip seeing so much success with Bfg‘s stuck with them for a very long time like pretty much everyone else on all our big trips never had a problem as explained good luck with the Thompson‘s made in the same factory as the Coopers, which are one of the highest failure rates on our trips even though hardly anybody wears them

My experience with the 70 profile BFG is 80 klm/hr or less I use 4th, 90 and above I use D…this is not towing. Doing 80 she revs at 2050 rpm (from memory) in 4th, about 1500 with higher load in D. Also, the 70 profile corrects the speedo to almost spot on. About 1-2 klm slow doing 80 compared to the GPS…a needles width on the 120. I agree, BFG’s are way overpriced. Last set for me.

Try the Toyo tyres . Good wearing. Not bad in the wet. Perform well right up until replacement required. I have had up to 140000km on these tyres mainly on highway use. But they are getting expensive now just like the rest. Bonus is they are Japanese made in most sizes.

I do the same with my 150 on the 70 profile tires, although just to make things easier for my partner I picked 100kph as it's a nice round number

I’ll have to check mine - I’m at 80k all Highway and have heaps of tread left. They were fitted late 2020 by the last owner I believe.

He'll talking about the Open Country A/T lll which are definitely my next tyre. The A/T ll had an awesome rep in all areas and so far the A/T lll seems to be carrying on as the A/T ll did.
