There's a lot here! So skip forward to your all terrain tyre you're looking to compare:
00:00 - Intro
01:02 - 3 ply sidewall tyres
01:03 - KO2 vs Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 (spelling mistake in title, whoops!)
04:36 - KO2 vs Nitto Ridge Grappler
08:00 - KO2 vs Toyo Open Country R/T
11:11 - 2 ply sidewall tyres
11:12 - KO2 vs Cooper AT3 LT
13:47 - KO2 vs Maxxis Bravo AT 771
15:39 - KO2 vs Toyo Open Country AT2 (we didn't have an AT3 yet, sorry!)
17:56 - KO2 vs Pirelli Scorpion AT+
20:19 - KO2 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W
23:38 - 3 ply sidewall tyres (again!)
23:49 - KO2 vs Maxxis RAZR AT811
26:44 - 2 ply sidewall tyres (you'd think we'd have got this sorted out properly, wouldn't you?!)
26:45 - KO2 vs Yokohama Geolandar G015 AT (another spelling mistake, will have to have a chat to the editor...)
30:02 - THE END(ish). My goodness, that was long.
30:46 - The actual end. Not sure why you'd need a chapter for this 🤔

If you spend most of your time on dirt then the KO2's are excellent. If you live in the real world and do mostly sealed roads then they are certainly dangerous in the wet. I've found them very slippery on a dual cab ute on tar. Now have Wildpeaks which are excellent in the wet.

What I don't think 99% of people understand is the why to the KO2. I've had those tires everywhere and I have yet to puncture one in any way. I've run low pressure, high pressure, long trips loaded down on hot days, etc with no failures. What makes the tire special is that it will not only get you out to where you want to go but it will also get you home. There are much better choices, but to be American, it's like a glock. Not pretty, not the best at anything but it works every single time.

Got set of Maxxis razr 811’s on my ranger, diesel fitter ute, always loaded, 300ltrs of fuel, done 70,000k’s on them now. I’ll probably never go a different tyre again in my life, wear even, quiet, handle like they are on rails in the wet. 811’s by far the best and I’ve tried 4 of the others on this video! Thanks for the comparison! Was hoping for a bit more detail re experience/thoughts on the road and off road. Ran two sets of KO2’s on my 200 series and were floorless. Did about 8 outback trips, live on a farm and punished them all the time. Not one issue, except for as they aged they got stiff. I now have two Utes. Running Nitto ridge grappler and find them quite a solid, tough tyre, quiet. On my new v6 ranger so much negativity for KO2’s so have avoided them and have on order the maxxis at811’s. Thanks for putting out the comparisson. Out of these tires while the KO2 always look good and they have proven themselves to be durable and dependable. I have to say that to me the best tread style designs are the nitto's and the maxxis ones, following close by the falken's and the Pirelli's. This analyzing equally water evaquation and off road traction.

Thanks mate! Great feedback. We actually made this one before the AT3 came onto the market, but had a blockage in the production line that meant it didn't go to air till late. We drill down into the details in the studio overviews for that. Also, thanks for the info on 3ply, I wasn't aware of that. I pinged our Toyo guy, and he said that currently only the LT285/75R16 is 3ply in the range, at least here in Australia. Hopefully we see more!

Thanks for a great review. I had a set of BF K02's on my Toyota FJ Cruiser. I was amazed that I sold the car with 100k on the clock and the tyres were still in good condition. I didn't tow anything and the car was usually carrying light loads. I made sure I rotated them regularly and kept a check on tyre pressures. The only negative was they were a little slippery in the wet on city roads. Otherwise hard to fault.

@kendigjl
@kendigjl Жыл бұрын
One thing no one talks about is the profile of the tires when they're aired up for highway and aired down for off-road. Aired up, the center strip very slightly bulges, and aired down it very slightly retracts. You can see the K02's have a more highway friendly center that makes for a smooth ride when cruising on hard flat surfaces at high speeds. When aired down, those more off-road friendly shoulders are able to do what they need to do (bite into terrain), effectively making two narrow strips of high traction on either side of the center.

More widely available und much cheaper here than the BFGoodrich KO2 (Peru). Another one I'm considering is the Maxxis AT980 mostly because it comes in 225/70R17 and I'd like that size...

I bought the Pirelli's AT scorpion plus because I spend about 95% of my driving on the pavement and the occasional 5% on dirt, mud and snow. My last trip took me to through about 1 foot of snow (the tire trenches were deep) on the back trail going uphill and and I didn't have any issues. I didn't have to air down or anything. I just threw my truck on 4-Hi and slowly went up. I have 265/70/16...I was going to go for the LT version but didn't feel like I needed them. I know the LT versions are much tougher but then again...I don't need them. On pavement, they are quiet, very quiet compared to my stock all season tires that came with the truck. The handling was the closest to an all season which I want and desire for road confidence. If I was spending more time off pavement, I would sway more over towards the Falken wildpeak and the only reason again is...they perform a bit better in rain and snow than the KO2. My cousins has them on his truck and I believe he ran 285 and the gas were not nice to him.

I run tires year round,in southern Alberta where snow,ice are common for 5 month's of the year. Snowflake rated is sort of a must for a tire. BFGs are pretty good for my hunting and fishing needs but my gravel driving kills them. Tire I've used on last couple of trucks....Goodyear Duratrac. I'm very happy with them,bit noisy on highway but not bad for how aggressive they are. Don't know if I'll try another tire any time soon

Hey mate, good point, we didn't quite go as deep on this video, as we didn't want to make it too long. A few of these tyres would be Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated, and we'd have studio reviews on most of them if you're getting into the research. I've also made a note to try and get country of manufacture from now on, but they'll also make tyres for different markets in different countries, so what we get here in Australia might be different to what they get in the US. Thanks for tuning in!

Ah, I thought about adding more, but then we would have had to make the video feature length! Ain't nobody got time for that! With the size thing, we try and aim for close, but the same within brands. With the supply issues it's really hard to get them the same, and even then the load rating would be different between them as well. How is the BFG K02 in the snow? Would a separate set of Winter Snow Tires be needed for Winter driving in Northern Canada?
@TyreReviewVideos
@TyreReviewVideos Жыл бұрын
They're Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake rated, which means they'll be better in the cold stuff than non rated tyres. They've also got good voids, so they should fill up with snow easily, which is good. Only thing is that their traction on wet roads is variable, depending on the driver and vehicle, I believe. I'm not hugely knowledgeable on the requirements for winter tyres, but you might still need a more dedicated set? I should really look into that...
@ShikokuFoodForest
@ShikokuFoodForest Жыл бұрын
@@TyreReviewVideos Thank you! The K02’s I imagine are much better than most All Terrains in the snow; however, my understanding now is dedicated snow tires are made from rubber which remains softer at much colder temperatures and therefore provide much better traction on ice and snow. This is from my limited research after posting my original question.
@nirfz
@nirfz Жыл бұрын
@@ShikokuFoodForest a little late to the discussion, but if you search for AT vs winter tyres on YT you should find several videos where people compare dedicated winter tyres and AT tyres on snowy surfaces. There was one with a subaru where the guy tried out stopping distances and it was a very clear win for the winter tires. So if it's snowy or icy they should always easily win against any AT tire. (At least from a reputable manufacturer. There are some low budget winter tires on offer, at least here in europe, i would not trust my life to. And your tires is something you are trusting your life to every time you drive.)

Close, but not exactly the same size. I originally wanted to collect all the same size, but with the tyre shortages and the fact that they aren't all made in the same sizes, all made it a bit hard to do. not may ATs work well in mud. If you're serious about playing in mud I'd be looking at the MT class. Some of the less-aggressive MTs are still quite street friendly. I'm not a mud guy myself but currently shopping for something less agressive than my all-out off road tires for a new(er) Range Rover I just picked up so looking at the aggressive AT/milder MT market. Maybe the KO2 for example. Still quite street friendly but good in the rocks. I just have an unnatural aversion to BFG since they're so common and I like to try things that are different.

I bought the BFG KO2s based upon their "internet reputation" and found them extremely disappointing to say the very least, hence why I was interested to see your thoughts. Before them I had the Yokos, I think they were GO12s at that stage, and they were better than the BFGs on the road and in wet off road conditions. I'm now running the Pirelli AT+ and they are in a different league to the BFGs for use in the wet conditions we see here in the UK. I did notice that a lot of the marketing material for the BFGs centres on performance in the desert etc. and they may well be excellent for this plus there is no question that they were extremely robust and this gave confidence that I wouldn't destroy them. However when I had to face a bit of wet slimy mud on top of a stone track it was game over for the BFGs and unfortunately that was the conditions that I needed an AT tyre for. I also found that the BFGs saw a very steep reduction in performance after not very many miles of wear - so I see people saying that they got 70k miles out of a set of BFGs but, to be honest, I found that there was a noticeable decline in performance after maybe 10k miles and after about 30k miles they were completely done for. With so many options on the market these days I can't think of any reason to buy the BFGs now as they seem to be old tech trading on a 40 year old reputation.

The biggest miss every reviewer get is about the sipes. The KO2 has full depth sipes. Other brands do not. On other brands, you see the sipes all the way across the tread block but belownthe surface, the sipes decreases. If you look at a worn tire of other brands, you notice the sipes no longer span the length it had when new. As the tire wears down, sipe traction decreases greater on other brands. The KO2's full width sipes maintains that full width down to the wear marks. This suggests that the KO2 maintains its sipe traction better than other branda.
